23 March 2011 Strathclyde University won the 2011 Littlejohn Vase in St Andrews on Wednesday 23 March 2011. The famous prize was contested by all shinty university teams – Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, St Andrews, Strathclyde and Robert Gordons – in a round robin format. Robert Gordons were winners in both 2009 and 2010 but the 2011 final was contested between Strathclyde and Glasgow. Gary Luke and Elliot Moir were the heroes, grabbing the goals, as Strathclyde beat Glasgow 2-0 to win the competition. Skye Camanachd’s Alan Palmer also starred in the Strathclyde side. Strathclyde were appearing in their fifth consecutive final. They were winners in 2007 and 2008 and they lost on penalties to Robert Gordons in both 2009 and 2010 so they will take special pride in wrestling the trophy back. Robert Gordons won the Womens McHue & Porter Cup, beating Edinburgh in the final. Skye players Christina Banks and Catriona Gibb played for Glasgow in the ladies tournament. |
