Scotland U21 Shinty / Hurling Squad Announced. | |
30 September 2010 The Scotland U21 squad has been announced for the 2010 U21 Shinty / Hurling match at Croke Park, Dublin on Saturday 30 October 2010. The players were initially put forward by their clubs before the Head Coach Donnie Martin and his assistants watched them in action and narrowed the squad down. The selected players then attended testing sessions where they were tested on a range of station skills including; fitness, shooting / defending, blocking / tackling a running player and ball control / passing. The Scotland U21 squad was trimmed to a final squad of 19 players following a match between the selected players at An Aird, Fort William on Sunday 26 September 2010. Scotland U21 Head Coach Donnie Martin said, “The U21 international is a vital part of player development and it is something that is very important to the players and coaching staff. We are pleased with the effort and ability shown by those who came along to the sessions and they certainly gave us plenty to think about. However in the end we are confident that we have selected the best squad and there was agreement between the coaches about that. There is also continuity with the squad as around half the players are still eligible to play next season and that’s important too.” The squad includes 15 North players and 4 from the south. A total of 14 players play their shinty in the Scottish Hydro Premier Division with the other 5 coming from Marine Harvest North Division 1. Lovat are the most represented club with 4 players. Newtonmore have 3 players included.
