15 September 2009 Skye Camanachd eventually came out 6-1 winners against The SCOTS in their challenge match at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Tuesday 15 September 2009. This was the second match in The SCOTS Cuairt Camanachd an Airm - the soldiers’ shinty tour. Before the game The SCOTS captain Hector MacKenzie presented Skye Camanachd captain Ian Nicolson with a plaque to mark the occasion.
Skye Camanachd took the lead after 8 minutes when Donnie Campbell played in Angie MacDonald and the Skye full forward made space, turned and crashed the ball into the roof of the net. That was the only goal of the first half and despite all Skye’s possession, and some good defending from SCOTS Skye born full back Hector MacKenzie, they couldn’t get the ball past Colin Marshall in The SCOTS goal. Allan MacKinnon made in 2-0 on 52 minutes when his low 25 yard shot evaded Skye introduced Alan Palmer and he made it 3-0 on 67 minutes with a turn and shot into the corner of the net. The SCOTS pulled a goal back 3 minutes later when a good ball into the danger area from Donald MacKenzie was turned into his own net by a Skye defender. Skye put the match beyond doubt with 3 goals in 3 minutes. Robert Urquhart drifted in at the back post to score from and Ian Nicolson cross to make it 4-1. Ian Nicolson then got in on the act to make it 5-1. Then Robert Urquhart netted his second after The SCOTS Donald MacKenzie fired a great shot on goal in 81 minutes but Ross Graham in the Skye goal saved well. Skye’s Donnie Campbell hit the frame of the goal 3 minutes later. There was no further scoring and a game played in good spirit ended 6-1 in Skye Camanachd’s favour.
