The 102nd Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final between Fort William and Kyles Athletic takes place at Mossfield, Oban on Saturday 19 September 2009.
Both sides had a free weekend ahead of the final which gave the respective team mangers a chance to have their players fully prepared for the big occasion.
Fort William were 4-2 winners when the teams met at Tighnabruaich on 21 March 2009. It was a depleted Fort William squad which headed south whilst the home side were fresh from victory at the Dell the previous week. The Fort were without Garry Innes, who was on tour with his band Box Club. Drew Ferguson and Bryan Simpson were amongst their other absentees. Such was their lack of personnel that manager Drew McNeill named himself as substitute and took part in the match. Young Peter Wood also made a substitute appearance – his reward for some good performances in the second team. However Fort did have James Clark and he scored a first half double. Mark Lawrie also struck during the first 45 minutes with Grant Irvine replying for Kyles. Thomas White got Kyles to within a goal in the second half but a Gordy MacKinnon strike ensured that the points went to the An Aird side.
However Kyles got revenge on 8 August 2009 when they came out on top 2-1 at An Aird. This was the Fort’s fourth consecutive league defeat after losing to Glenurquhart, Newtonmore and Oban Camanachd and now Kyles Athletic. This run severely dented their title chances. Victor Smith scored the Fort goal but strikes from Thomas White and Grant Irvine left Kyles level on points with the An Aird men in joint third place.
The 2009 final throws up at 1.45pm and will be broadcast live on both television and radio. Television coverage will be on BBC2 Scotland and radio coverage is on both BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Radio nan Gaidheal.
