MacPhee & Partners Macaulay Cup Final………….2 Days To Go. | |
19 August 2009 The MacPhee & Partners Macaulay Cup Final takes place at Mossfield Oban on Saturday 22 August 2009. The Final pits the North finalists Kingussie against the South’s finalists, Inveraray. 4 July 2009. On 30 May 2009, Kingussie progressed to the MacPhee & Partners MacAulay Cup semi finals after beating Kilmallie 8-2 at the Dell. Ronald Ross was the main man, following up last week’s historic achievement in clocking up 1,000 senior goals by scoring a double hat-trick – one in each half - and taking his total to 1,007! The scoring in the first half was fairly even though and Kilmallie actually took the lead with international forward John Stewart finding the net after 11 minutes. Ross equalised 10 minutes later and young Ryan Borthwick, in for the injured Kevin Thain, gave the Kings the lead on the half hour mark. Ross made it 3-1 after 36 minutes but Trevor Jackson pulled a goal back 5 minutes before the break only for Ross to complete his first half hat-trick 3 minutes later and restore Kingussie’s two goal advantage. Kingussie showed their class in the last 20 minutes though. Ross made it 6-2 with a double in 70 and 72 minutes and Paul Gow made it 3 goals in 5 minutes with a 74 minute strike. A Ronald Ross penalty a couple of minutes from the end took his personal total to 6 and Kingussie’s tally to 8. This set Kingussie up for a tie against Glenurquhart at the Dell in the quarter finals. Kingussie met Glenurquhart in the second round on 4 July 2009 and they didn’t have it all their own way. Kingussie, without the injured Ronald Ross, took the lead after 12 minutes through Russell Dallas. However Andrew Corrigan leveled for Glenurquhart 4 minutes from half time. Veteran Kevin Thain put the Kings ahead 7 minutes into the second half but it took until 15 minutes from the end to seal victory with a strike from Rory Borthwick. Paul Gow made the final score 4-1 with a strike 5 minutes from the end. Lochaber and Kingussie met at Drumnadrochit 25 July 2009 in the MacPhee & Partners Macaulay Cup semi final. Lochaber were determined not to suffer a repeat of their heavy defeat at the Dell a few weeks earlier and they welcomed the previously suspended Ben Delaney, Hughie Innes and Martin Johnstone back into their squad. A Ronald Ross double gave Kingussie a 2-0 lead until Lochaber’s Sean Nicolson reduced the deficit. Ross completed a first half hat-trick before a Ben Delaney strike meant the Kings only had a single goal lead at half time. Another double from Ross took his personal tally to 5 and although Andy MacDonald pulled a goal back for the The 2009 MacPhee & Partners Macaulay Cup Final throws up at 2.10pm and will be shown live on BBC2 Scotland. The television coverage starts at 1.45pm.
