Foundation Shinty Referee Course. | |
21 December 2008 The Camanachd Association has announced the next round of the Foundation Referee Course for shinty. This training course was developed as the first step in the production of a full support package for referees and completion of the course qualifies the attendee to officiate from junior through to reserve standard levels of shinty. Graham Cormack, Coaching and Performance Development Manager for the Camanachd Association said “The Camanachd Association and the Camanachd Referees Association, are both keen to ensure that the important role undertaken by match officials is fully recognised and appreciated. The support of shinty clubs in encouraging members, with the appropriate skill, to take up refereeing is vitally important”. Refereeing is open to all over 16 years old and there are many personal benefits that come from getting involved as a referee in a sport such as shinty. Once qualified as a referee there is also some remuneration at senior level games, with a small payment of £30 match fee and 40p per mile travel expenses. The Camanachd Association are asking clubs and schools in particular to encourage people with the ability to become a referee to think seriously about becoming a referee, and this evening course has been developed specifically to provide candidates with a strong foundation in the skills they will need to succeed.
