The Camanachd Association has written to shinty clubs asking them to consider playing midweek and Sunday shinty in the 2009 shinty season.
The Association sounded out clubs regarding midweek shinty prior to th 2008 season but President Duncan Camerson said at the recent club / member meeting in Kyle that it was difficult to get sufficient agreement from clubs on such an arrangement since players often work away from home or live away from home because they are students.
The Association hope that with sufficient notice, clubs will be able to arrange midweek games, especially between clubs located close to eachother which would reduce any travel difficulties.
Midweek shinty will help with referee shortages and possibly offer more options in terms of pitch availability.
Skye Camanachd has always been against Sunday shinty and it is believed that fellow West Coast clubs Kinlochshiel and Lochcarron hold a similar view. It is not likely that Sunday shinty will be imposed on any unwilling clubs but there are believed to be a reasonable number willing to play shinty on a Sunday.
Clubs have until 5 December 2008 to make their views known to the Camanachd Association.
