The Shinty Round-up - Updated. | |
08 November 2008 There were goals galore in the Marine Harvest Premier League on Saturday 8 November 2008. Newtonmore clinched the runners up spot in the league with an exciting 5-4 win over Inveraray at the Eilan. There were 4 points at stake as the club’s agreed to play a double header, negating the need to fulfil their scheduled fixture at the end of this month at Inveraray’s Winterton pitch. Winterton is currently unplayable after suffering the effects of a recent music festival and is unlikely to be playable again this season. However More had to work hard for their points and they went a goal down to an early Grant Griffen strike. Glen MacKintosh continued his recent good goal scoring form when he levelled the match. David Robertson again gave the visitors the lead before David Cheyne equalised. A Neil Campbell shot gave Inveraray an interval lead before Cheyne scored his second to bring More level once again. Under 17 star Rory Kennedy got his first strike for the first team to give his side the lead for the first time. Glen MacKintosh scored his second 20 minutes from the end and although Griffen scored his second and Inveraray’s fourth, it was More who clinched the double win in this 9 goal thriller. Newtonmore have now completed their league fixtures and move into second place on 26 point, 3 points ahead of With Lochaber and In the Marine Harvest North Division 2, champions Kilmallie beat Caberfeidh 2-1 at
