The Shinty Preview – Saturday 19 May 2012. | |
18 May 2012 The Co-operative MacTavish Cup and AGJ Parcels Glasgow Celtic Society Cup reach the semi-finals stage on Saturday 19 May 2012.
Co-operative MacTavish Cup – Semi Finals Glenurquhart v Newtonmore Glenurquhart meet Newtonmore at Blairbeg. Glenurquhart co-managers Fraser MacKenzie and Drew McNeil have Lewis MacLennan free from suspension following his one match ban for his sending off in the draw with Kingussie a fortnight ago. MacLennan had been showing good form prior to his suspension. However Ruairidh Cameron remains an injury doubt. Newtonmore will be without Danny MacRae who hobbled out of the defeat to Kinlochshiel at Kirkton last weekend after just 5 minutes with a knee problem. He is likely to be missing for a few weeks. With Chris Sellar starting a two match ban and with David Cheyne not having played for several weeks, manager Norman MacArthur will be relieved to welcome forward Glen MacKintosh back suspension. Innes Wood is the match referee and this tie will be filmed for the Camanachd Association YouTube archive. Lochaber v Kingussie Kingussie return to Spean Bridge for the second successive Saturday to play Lochaber. Kingussie came from 2-0 down to win 6-4 in last week’s pulsating tie but Lochaber won much admiration for their performance. Kingussie were without the injured Paul Gow and Martin Dallas last weekend so boss Russell Jones will carry out late checks on the pair. Graham Irving is the match referee and this tie will be filmed for the Camanachd Association YouTube archive.
AJG Parcels Glasgow Celtic Society Cup – Semi Finals Bute v Inveraray Bute meet Inveraray in a derby clash at the Meadows. Whoever comes through this tie will be hot favourites to win the final. Throw up is at 3pm and Deek Cameron is the match referee. Aberdour v Taynuilt Aberdour play Taynuilt in Fife. Taynuilt won 2-1 in Fife at the end of April and both sides are level on four points each in the league. Gus Campbell is the match referee.
Balliemore Cup - First Round Beauly v Glenorchy The final Balliemore Cup first round tie sees Beauly play Glenorchy at Braeview Park. Kenneth MacKenzie and Martin MacFadyen are major doubts for Beauly. The home side has had some mixed results since they dumped neighbours Lovat out of the Co-operative MacTavish Cup. Throw up is at 3pm.
Balliemore Cup – Quarter Finals Strachur v Kilmory Strachur are at home to Kilmory. Alan Paterson is available again for Strachur following a one game suspension. The sides met at the same venue on league duty last weekend when a Rhys Campbell double game Strachur the points.
Sutherland Cup – Quarter Final Newtonmore v Caberfeidh Marine Harvest North Division 2 leaders Newtonmore welcome Caberfeidh to the Eilan. The home side is still without suspended duo David Campbell and Brett Munro. Neil Stewart is injured and they are likely to lose a couple of players to the first team as Norman MacArthur’s resources are stretched. However they should still be too strong for Marine Harvest North Division 3 side Caberfeidh. Lovat v Fort William Lovat and Fort William clash at Balgate. Lovat were narrow 3-2 winners when the sides met at Balgate a few weeks ago. Beauly v Glenurquhart Marine Harvest North Division 3 side Beauly play Glenurquhart from Marine Harvest North Division 2 at Braeview Park. Beauly’s Rory Campbell has a dislocated shoulder. Glenurquhart were too strong for Marine Harvest North Division 3 side Strathglass last week when they beat them 9-0 in the Strathdearn Cup but league leaders Beauly will provide much stiffer opposition. Throw up is at 12 noon.
Orion Group Premiership Kinlochshiel v Kilmallie Kinlochshiel play Kilmallie at Kirkton. The sides met a couple of weeks ago at the Canal Parks when Kilmallie secured their first win of the season. Kinlochshiel’s Finlay Macrae remains hampered by a hamstring injury and he played at full back against Newtonmore last weekend. Both sides will likely be without their captains as Kinlochshiel’s Gordie MacDonald has a recurrence of a knee injury whilst John Stewart misses out for Kilmallie following his red card last week. Peter Carmichael and Liam MacDonald could also be absentees. Throw up is at 3pm. Kyles Athletic v Fort William Kyles Athletic are back on their Tighnabruaich pitch for the first time this season where Fort William are the visitors. Extensive drainage works have taken place on Kyles’ pitch since the start of the year and this has seen their home matches played at Strachur. Fort William’s Alex Duncan serves the second game of a two match ban but Niall MacPhee should return. Steven Stewart is available for the Fort before serving a one match ban next weekend.
Marine Harvest North Division 1 Inverness v Skye Camanachd Skye Camanachd head for the Bught Park to play Inverness. Former Skye Camanachd player Somhairle MacDonald has been in top form for the Capital side however he will miss the clash with his former club. Skye Camanachd are without Somhairle MacDonald’s brother Aonghas MacDonald who is abroad whilst their younger brother Gilleasbuig MacDonald is struggling with a hand injury. Shaun Hedley is still missing for Skye. Caberfeidh v Strathglass Caberfeidh will be looking to follow up last week’s 4-0 win at Beauly with another victory when Strathglass visit Castle Leod. Strathglass on the other hand suffered a heavy defeat at Inverness. Throw up is at 3pm.
Marine Harvest South Division 1 Oban Celtic v Oban Camanachd Mossfield won’t be a place for the faint-hearted as the first Oban derby of the season between Oban Celtic and Oban Camanachd takes centre stage. Almost the length of the division separates the sides with Oban Camanachd in second place and Oban Celtic bottom of the table but these clashes are notoriously difficult to predict. Keeper Jack Hill is available again for Oban Celtic following a two match ban however the influential Kenny Wotherspoon misses out as he serves a one match suspension. Oban Camanachd will be without Gary Lord who has a foot injury and James MacMillan who starts a three match suspension. Throw up is at 12 noon.
Marine Harvest North Division 2 Skye Camanachd v Glengarry Second place Skye Camanachd play third place Glengarry at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. The Islanders could have Stewart Grant back after an absence of several weeks with a hand injury. Glengarry will be without suspended duo Ewan Brady and Michael Brady. Kinlochshiel v Kingussie Kinlochshiel play Kingussie at Kirkton. Kinlochshiel will be without the suspended Colin MacDiarmid. The visitors travel west for the second successive Saturday as they lost 3-0 to Skye Camanachd in Portree last weekend in the Sutherland Cup. Throw up is at 12 noon. Aberdeen University v Lochaber Aberdeen University meet Lochaber in the Granite City. Former Skye Camanachd players Kenny MacLeod and Jamie Beaton have been on target for the Students in recent weeks. Both sides went out of the Strathdearn Cup last weekend.
Marine Harvest South Division 2 Ardnamurchan v Lochside Rovers Ardnamurchan and Lochside Rovers meet for the second successive Saturday. Ardnamurchan put up a good display against the league leaders last week when it took a last minute Brian MacCallum goal to seal a 3-1 win. Glasgow Mid Argyll v Kyles Athletic Glasgow Mid Argyll take on Kyles Athletic at Yoker. GMA sit second bottom in the table with just one victory from their ten matches played and that was against bottom side Aberdour. This is Kyles’ seventh away fixture in eight league matches. They sit in fourth place in the league and have games in hand on the sides above them. Inveraray W/O v Tayforth Inveraray were to meet Tayforth at Tighnabruaich. However the visitors, who are in second place in the table, are unable to raise a team so the points go to Inveraray. Bute W/O v Aberdour The match between Bute and Aberdour at the Meadows is off as the visitors are unable to raise a team. Bute have been awarded the points.
Marine Harvest North Division 3 Lewis Camanachd v Strathspey Camanachd The leagues newest teams meet in Shawbost where Lewis Camanachd host Strathspey Camanachd. This will be Lewis Camanachd’s first home match of the season and a large crowd is expected. Lochcarron v Boleskine Lochcarron play Boleskine at Battery Park. Gregor Cushnie will provide the main threat for the home side whilst Boleskine’s Iain Grant and Lewis Smith have been amongst the goals in recent weeks. Strathglass v Inverness Strathglass and Inverness meet for the second time in three weeks. Last time out, Inverness came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at the Bught Park. Throw up is at the earlier time of 11.30am. Lochbroom W/O v Kilmallie Fourth place Kilmallie are unable to field for the second time in three weeks so the points go to third place Lochbroom. |
