05 May 2012 The first round ties from the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup brought together the non-Orion Group Premiership sides on Saturday 5 May 2012. Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup – First Round Glasgow Mid Argyll 4 Oban Camanachd 2 The first tie of the opening round of the 2012 Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup was the 12 noon meeting between Glasgow Mid Argyll and Oban Camanachd at Yoker and the home side produced the surprise of the round when they put their more fancied opponents out of the cup. Mark Bain put GMA two up and Iain Luke and Craig Anderson got the others to put their side into next week’s draw with a 4-2 win. Lochaber 8 Lochcarron 0 With only two months of the new season gone, it is remarkable that Lochaber and Lochcarron met this weekend for the fourth time this term. Lochcarron were no match for their opponents this time as Scott Patterson got a hat-trick and Zandz Ferguson and Stuart Callison got doubles in an 8-0 win. Ryan Toal got the other. Skye Camanachd 5 Caberfeidh 2 Skye produced a powerful second half performance to beat Caberfeidh 5-2 at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree, Neil MacVicar and Jordan Murchison got doubles with Danny Morrison also on target. Ally MacLennan and Stewart Kryzanowski counted for Cabers. Oban Celtic 1 Beauly 3 Beauly returned from Oban with a 3-1 win in their tie against Oban Celtic. Marc MacLauchlin, David MacLean and Ryan Tillman got their goals. Kilmory 3 Taynuilt 2 Marine Harvest South Division 1 side Kilmory edged out Tayforth, who play in the league below, by the odd goal in five. Ally MacLennan, Duncan MacBrayne and Scott Sinclair got their goals. Strathglass 5 Aberdour 2 A hat-trick from player / manager Robert Geddes helped Strathglass to a 5-2 win over Aberdour at Cannich.
Strathdearn Cup – First Round Glengarry 3 Caberfeidh 1 Glengarry beat Caberfeidh 3-1 at Craigard to win the final place in the Strathdearn Cup second round. Gordon MacDonald was a hat-trick hero for ‘Garry.
Orion Group Premiership Newtonmore 3 Fort William 0 The match of the day in the Orion Group Premiership was the meeting between leaders Newtonmore and Fort William at the Eilan. A Danny MacRae double and a Chris Sellar strike were enough to give ‘More a 3-0 win which extends their lead at the top of the table to two points as rivals Kinlochshiel and Lovat faltered. Kilmallie 2 Kinlochshiel 1 Kilmallie secured their first win of the season when they beat second place Kinlochshiel 2-1 at the Canal Parks. John Stewart scored twice, either side of a Finlay MacRae goal. Kyles Athletic 2 Lovat 2 Fourth place Kyles Athletic and third place Lovat shared the points following a 2-2 draw at Strachur. All the goals came in the second half as Lewis Tawse put the visitors ahead before Ewen Campbell and Robbie MacLeod, from the penalty spot, put Kyles in front. However Greg Matheson earned Lovat a point with a goal 10 minutes from time. Inveraray 1 Bute 0 A Garry MacPherson penalty 16 minutes from time was all that separated derby rivals Inveraray and Bute at the Winterton. Glenurquhart 3 Kingussie 3 There was an explosive meeting between Glenurquhart and Kingussie at Blairbeg. Ronald Ross put Kingussie ahead on 10 minutes but a Fraser Heath double on 13 and 26 minutes gave the Glen the advantage. Martin Dallas made it 2-2 just 10 minutes into the second half and it remained that way until Ronald Ross got his second goal of the game on 83 minutes. That strike looked to have given Kingussie the win but Billy Urquhart struck a minute from time to earn Glenurquhart a share of the points. The home side had Lewis MacLennan sent off by referee Graham Irving.
Marine Harvest South Division 1 Strachur 0 Glenorchy 2 Second bottom Strachur went down 2-0 to Glenorchy. Lorne Brown and John Surtain got their goals.
Marine Harvest North Division 2 Fort William 2 Newtonmore 1 With second place Glengarry in cup action, leaders Newtonmore missed the chance to extend their lead at the top of the table when they lost to bottom side Fort William at the Black Parks. Neil Clark got both Fort goals, either side of a Drew MacDonald strike. Kinlochshiel 2 Skye Camanachd 2 Third place Skye Camanachd shared the points in their local derby with Kinlochshiel at Kirkton. Graham MacRae and Jordan Fraser scored for the home side whilst captain David Grant netted twice for the Islanders. Kingussie 3 Glenurquhart 3 The Dell was the venue for an exciting 3-3 draw between Kingussie and Glenurquhart. Both sides have shown good form of late and youth was to the fore as Chris Holleysong and Daniel MacKintosh each scored doubles. Lovat 0 Aberdeen University 1 Lovat lost 1-0 to Aberdeen University at Balgate. Former Skye Camanachd player Jamie Beaton scored the only goal of the game after 13 minutes.
Marine Harvest South Division 2 Lochside Rovers 8 Col Glen 0 Craig MacDougall was the day’s joint top scorer with five goals as league leaders Lochside Rovers beat third place Col Glen 8-0 in Oban. Inveraray 1 Ballachulish 2 Inveraray went down 2-1 to Ballachulish at the Winterton. All the goals came in the first half with Darren Sutherland and Stuart Robertson scoring either side of a Neil Campbell strike. Bute 0 Kyles Athletic 1 The Bute and Kyles Athletic second teams had a derby clash at the Meadows. Ahead of the game, the sides were only separated by two points in the league in Kyles Athletic’s favour and they extended that advantage thanks to a Scott MacDonald goal. Glasgow Mid Argyll 1 Tayforth 4 Second bottom Glasgow Mid Argyll lost 4-1 to second top Tayforth at Yoker. David Arnott, Calum MacDonald, Lee Fleming and Calum Campbell were on target for the visitors whilst Gian Boye replied for the home side. Ardnamurchan 10 Aberdour 3 Ardnamurchan hit double figures as they ran out 10-3 home winners against Aberdour. Sean Laskey was the day’s other top goal scorer with five goals.
Marine Harvest North Division 3 Beauly W/O Kilmallie Kilmallie were unable to raise a team for their trip to Braeview Park to play league leaders Beauly so the points went to the home team. Boleskine 7 Lewis Camanachd 1 Boleskine kept the pressure on leaders Beauly with a 7-1 win over Lewis Camanachd at Farr. Craig Pirrie, Raymond Robertson and Iain Grant each got doubles for the home side whilst Lewis Smith got the other. Scott Murray was on target for Lewis Camanachd. Lochbroom 1 Strathspey Camanachd 0 A great James MacFadyen strike 10 minutes from time gave third place Lochbroom the points against the league’s new-boys Strathspey Camanachd in Ullapool. Inverness 3 Strathglass 2 Inverness came from two down to beat Strathglass 3-2 in their noon meeting at the Bught Park. Garry Reid on 15 minutes and Calum MacIntyre just 60 seconds later put the visitors 2-0 in front. Former Newtonmore player David Wylde has recently signed for Inverness and he came off the bench to pull a goal back on 31 minutes. George MacInnes squared the game on 56 minutes and David Wylde scored again with what proved to be the winner a couple of minutes from time. |
