25 March 2012 There is no change at the top of the Orion Group Premiership and Fort William are through the second round of the Co-operative MacTavish Cup following the fixtures on Saturday 24 March 2012.
Co-operative MacTavish Cup – First Round Fort William 8 Caberfeidh 1 Fort William proved too strong for their Marine Harvest North Division 1 opponents Caberfeidh at the Black Parks. Gary Innes racked up four first half goals to give the Fort a 4-0 lead at the break. Daniel Stewart, two from Gordie MacDonald and a Ryan Campbell goal extended Fort William's advantage in the second half. Gary MacLennan got a consolation goal for Cabers.
Orion Group Premiership Inveraray 2 Newtonmore 6 Newtonmore stay on top of the pile following a 6-2 win over Inveraray. Danny MacRae was the champions’ top marksman with four goals whilst Glen MacKintosh grabbed a double. Lovat 0 Bute 0 Lovat and Bute played out a goalless draw at Balgate. Lovat remain second in the table whilst Bute are in sixth place. Kyles Athletic 5 Kingussie 2 Kyles Athletic beat Kingussie 5-2. The match was played at Glendaruel as Kyles’ Tighnabruaich pitch is still not available. 2011 Marine harvest National Player of the Year Roddy MacDonald and former Fort William player Ewen Campbell put Kyles 2-0 ahead before a Fraser Munro brace squared the game. However a Thomas Whyte double and a Dunkie Kerr goal gave Kyles both points from a 5-2 win. Glenurquhart 1 Kinlochshiel 2 Glenurquhart had most of the early pressure without creating many clear-cut chances against Kinlochshiel at Blairbeg. However it was ‘Shiel’s Finlay MacRae who scored the only goal of the first half. Fraser MacVicar made it 2-0 before Lewis MacLennan pulled a goal back for the home side with a fine strike.
Marine Harvest North Division 1 Beauly 5 Strathglass 4 League leaders Beauly edged out Strathglass by the odd goal in nine at Braeview Park. Marc MacLauchlin and Calum Morrison put the home side two up before Robert Geddes pulled a goal back for the visitors. There was a 25 minute stoppage in the first half as Strathglass player Lawrence Jones suffered a bad knee injury. Marc MacLauchlin went on complete his hat-trick in the second half. Another Robert Geddes goal made it 4-2 before Jamie MacLennan restored Beauly’s three goal advantage. However a late Josh Fraser double made it 5-4 and the visitors spurned a chance to square the game before the final whistle. Skye Camanachd 2 Inverness 0 Skye Camanachd remain second in the table following a 2-0 win over inverness at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. Iain Nicolson put Skye ahead after 32 minutes but it took until a minute from time when Jordan Murchison smashed the ball into the top corner of the net to give Skye the points. Lochaber 5 Lochcarron 1 Doubles from Shaun Nicolson and Stuart Callison and a Zandz Ferguson strike gave Lochaber a 5-1 win over Lochcarron at Spean Bridge. Kenny Ross was on target for Lochcarron from the penalty spot.
Marine Harvest South Division 1 Oban Camanachd 4 Glasgow Mid Argyll 2 League Leaders Oban Camanachd maintained their 100% record with a 4-2 win over Glasgow Mid Argyll at Mossfield. This was a tough test for the home side against the team who finished in second place last season. Doubles from Jonathon Will and Mattie Rippon gave the Oban side the points. Taynuilt 1 Glenorchy 3 Two second half goals in a couple of minutes from Ciaran MacKay gave Glenorchy a 3-1 win in the local derby at Taynuilt. Kilmory 2 Strachur 2 An Ally Cunningham double gave Kilmory a share of the points against newly promoted Strachur. Reece Campbell and Duncan MacNicol replied for the visitors. The draw gave Strachur their first point of the season. Aberdour 3 Oban Celtic 0 Aberdour beat Oban Celtic 3-0 in Fife. The home side was buoyed from last week’s win over GMA and they continued their feel-good factor as an Ally Shaw goal and two strikes from Craig Matheson gave them the points.
Marine Harvest North Division 2 Newtonmore 4 Glengarry 1 The match of the day in this division was the meeting between the top two, Newtonmore and Glengarry, at the Eilan. Both sides had a 100% record but it was the champions who maintained that record with a 4-1 win. Mathew Clark gave Glengarry the lead with an opening minute effort and this proved to be the only goal of the first half. Calum Stewart leveled a couple of minutes into the second half and Connor Jones added a second from the penalty spot just 5 minutes later. Calum Stewart added his second on the hour mark whilst Evan Menzies made in 4-1 with a 69 minute strike. Newtonmore’s David Campbell and Glengarry’s Michael Brady were red carded by referee Ronnie Campbell. Kingussie 1 Skye Camanachd 1 Will Cowie put Skye ahead 3 minutes before the break against Kingussie at the Dell but Savio Genini leveled a couple of minutes later. Kingussie edged the second half but the Skye defence held firm to earn a share of the points. Aberdeen University 2 Fort William 0 Aberdeen University beat Fort William 2-0 thanks to strikes from Jamie Beaton on 20 minutes and John Sweeney 3 minutes from time. Glenurquhart 1 Kinlochshiel 2 Kinlochshiel came out on top with a 2-1 win over Glenurquhart at Blairbeg. Calum Fraser put the Glen ahead after just 10 minutes but Connal Fraser and Steven Bellshaw, with his first goal since his switch from Lochbroom, counted for ‘Shiel. Lochaber 1 Lovat 4 A James Matheson double and goals from Jimmy MacKenzie and Fraser Gallacher gave Lovat their first points of the season with a 4-1 win over Lochaber in their 12 noon throw up at Spean Bridge. Keith Neville was again on target for the home side.
Marine Harvest South Division 2 Col Glen 4 Aberdour 0 Two second half goals from Norman MacDonald helped league leaders Col Glen to a 4-0 win over Aberdour at Glendaruel. Lochside Rovers 5 Tayforth 3 Daniel MacKinnon got a goal in each half as Lochside Rovers maintained their 100% record with a 5-3 win over Tayforth in Oban. Ardnamurchan 3 Inveraray 3 Ardnamurchan and Inveraray shared the points following a 3-3 draw. Reece MacKay, JD MacMaster and Alan Nairn scored for the home side but a Lewis MacNicol double and a Ross Anderson effort earned Inveraray a point. Bute 10 Glasgow Mid Argyll 0 Bute overpowered Glasgow Mid Argyll as they hit double figures on Rothesay. Neil McKirdy, Ally Carmichael and Gordie MacMillan each got doubles.
Marine Harvest North Division 3 Strathspey Camanachd 0 Beauly 6 League leaders Beauly came back from Freuchie Park with both points following a 6-0 win over Strathspey Camanachd. Former first team keeper Martin Davidson grabbed a hat-trick for the second successive Saturday. Conor Ross netted twice and Scott MacLean got the other. Strathglass 0 Lochbroom 3 Strathglass went down 3-0 to second place Lochbroom at Cannich. Boleskine 5 Lochcarron 0 Third place Boleskine were 5-0 winners over Lochcarron at Farr. Lewis Smith followed up his five goals last week with a double. Ewan Fraser also got two and Scott Fitzgerald got the other. Kilmallie 5 Lewis Camanachd 0 Kilmallie got back on the rails with a 5-0 win Lewis Camanachd at the Canal Parks. The Islanders competed well in the first half and the game was goalless at the break. However Kilmallie were the stronger team in the second period and doubles from Jordan MacPhee and Ross Manson and an Alexander MacIsaac strike game Kilmallie both points. Inverness 1 Caberfeidh 5 Ally MacLeod’s Inverness went down 5-1 to Caberfeidh at the Bught Park. Colin MacLennan, Graham MacGregor, an own goal and an Alan Ross effort counted for the visitors. Stuart MacRae countered for Inverness. |
