Orion Group Premiership Kilmallie 1 Newtonmore 3 Newtonmore returned to the top of the Orion Group Premiership following their 3-1 win over Kilmallie in their 3pm throw up at the Canal Parks. Kilmallie had been idle for the last three Saturdays and their last outing was a 7-1 defeat at Inveraray. Martin Stewart was free of suspension and he returned for the home side as did Michael Rodger who missed the Inveraray match. Peter McIntyre made a welcome return for the Kilmallie second team in their morning game and he started on the bench for the first team. Newtonmore’s Andy MacKintosh picked up a knock in last weekend’s Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup defeat to Inveraray but he recovered to take his place in defence. Glen MacKintosh put Newtonmore ahead after just 9 minutes but Kilmallie competed well in the first half and Liam MacDonald levelled on 23 minutes. Two goals early in the second half put ‘More in control though as Glen MacKintosh got his second a minute into the second period whilst Danny MacRae grabbed a third on 50 minutes to seal a 3-1 win. The result confirms that Kilmallie will drop to Marine Harvest North Division 1 next season. Kinlochshiel 6 Kingussie 1 Kinlochshiel recorded a 6-1 win over Kingussie at Kirkton. ‘Shiel keeper Graham Kennedy served the second game of his two match suspension and his brother Scott Kennedy continued to deputise. Defender Mark MacDonald had recovered from the injury which forced his substitution in the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup defeat to Inveraray a fortnight ago. Manager Johnston Gill was keen to feature younger players in his line-up as he looks to increase his first team pool for of next season. Kingussie boss Russell Jones also continued to give his younger players the chance to show that they are ready for the rigours of top division shinty. Fraser Munro and Louis Munro missed out as they were at a wedding in Kiev and Ryan Borthwick had a foot injury. Andrew Borthwick took over from Russell Menzies in goal and Ronald Ross was again missing. ‘Shiel captain Gordie MacDonald put the home side ahead in the first minute but Barrie Dallas levelled with 10 minutes played. However Kinlochshiel took control and John MacRae made it 2-1 on 23 minutes and his brother Keith MacRae added a third 6 minutes before the break. There was a first senior strike from U17 player Conall Fraser on 49 minutes Keith MacRae got his second on 57 minutes. John MacRae got his second on 59 minutes to round off an impressive 6-1 win.
Fort William 5 Inveraray 3 Fort William made it two wins out of two since their return to An Aird with an impressive 5-3 win over Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup finalists Inveraray. The Fort continued to be without Gary Innes. Inveraray were without Allan MacDonald who had a one match ban for a points accumulation. The Fort started with Duncan Rodger and he scored on 2 and 14 minutes to put the home side 2-0 in front. Euan McMurdo pulled a goal back 5 minutes before the break but a second half double from Daniel Stewart made it 4-1 on 54 and 75 minutes. Duncan Rodger completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot after referee Graham Irving awarded them a spot-hit on 78 minutes and although Chris Crawford and Stuart Robertson netted in the final two minutes, it was no more than consolation for the visitors.
Marine Harvest North Division 1 Lochcarron 0 Skye Camanachd 3 Skye stay top of the table following their 3-0 derby win over Lochcarron at Battery Park. Click on the following link to read the match report in full (to follow) Lochaber 5 Inverness 0 Lochaber go second in the table following their 5-0 win over Inverness at Spean Bridge. Lochaber had several regulars back after they missed last week’s win over Strathglass when they were attending a pre-arranged stag party. Craig Nicolson served the second game of a three match ban for Inverness. Stuart Callison on 22 minutes, Ben Delaney on 33 minutes and Shaun Nicolson a couple of minutes before the break, all scored to give Lochaber a 3-0 half time lead. Nicolson again on 78 minutes and Pat Toal a couple of minutes from time were on target to clinch a 5-0 victory. Lochaber trail Skye by four points but, perhaps crucially, they have three games in hand. Caberfeidh 1 Beauly 2 Caberfeidh went down 2-1 to Beauly at Castle Leod. Lee Nicol gave Caberfeidh a 4 minute lead. However Barrie MacDonald made it 1-1 on 27 minutes and Ryan Tillman, on his return from injury, scored what proved to be the winner on 65 minutes.
Marine Harvest North Division 2 Kingussie 6 Aberdeen University 2 A Savio Genini hat-trick helped Kingussie to a 6-2 win over Aberdeen University at the Dell. Savio Genini had picked up a hand injury in an earlier match against Lochaber but he played after making a scoring appearance for the Kings’ U14 side the night before. Russell Menzies returned in goal for the home side following his first team appearance the previous weekend. Aberdeen University were missing Kenny MacLeod who was banned following his red card against Skye the previous week. Savio Genini put his side ahead on 25 minutes and Rory Fraser made it 2-0 just 10 minutes later. Jamie Beaton pulled a goal back for the Students on 39 minutes but a Nathan Grant strike 3 minutes before the break gave Kingussie a 3-1 half time lead. Aberdeen University fought back though and Calum Edmonds made it 3-2 just a minute into the second half. However Kingussie took control and Savio Genini scored again on 70 minutes and he completed his hat-trick 3 minutes later from the penalty spot to make it 5-3. Kingussie veteran Davie Anderson rolled back the years when he got Kingussie’s sixth 10 minutes from time. Kingussie’s Rory Fraser was red carded by referee Euan Pearson. Glengarry 0 Fort William 1 Lewis Morrison scored the only goal of the game to give Fort William a 1-0 derby win over Glengarry at Craigard, Invergarry. Glengarry’s Matthew Ross was free of suspension after missing last week’s match. Morrison’s winning goal came 15 minutes from time.
Marine Harvest South Division 2 Ballachulish 0 Lochside Rovers 2 Ballachulish and Lochside Rovers brought forward their Jubilee Park meeting to Friday 17 August. Early goals from Gavin Stobbart on just 2 minutes and Sean Morgan 5 minutes later gave newly crowned champions Lochside Rovers a 2-0 win in this 7pm throw up. Aberdour 3 Ardnamurchan 2 Ardnamurchan went cross-country as they took on Aberdour in Fife. Sean Laskey scored five times as Ardnamurchan were 10-3 winners when the sides met earlier in the season but this was Aberdour’s day. Lewis Nicol gave them a 15 minute lead only for Sandy Corrigan to level 5 minutes before the break. Brandon Marshall on 65 minutes and David MacKenzie put Aberdour 3-1 up and although James Cameron pulled a goal back for Ardnamurchan 5 minutes from time, Aberdour took the points and they move off the bottom of the table. Kyles Athletic W/O v Tayforth Tayforth were unable to field a team for their trip to Tighnabruaich to play Kyles Athletic so the points went to the home side.
Marine Harvest North Division 3 Kilmallie 1 Strathspey Camanachd 3 Strathspey Camanachd ended their first season in senior shinty on a high with a 3-1 win over Kilmallie in their noon throw up at the Canal Parks. Player / manager Lawrence Belleni returned for Strathspey after missing the defeat to Lochbroom last week. After a goalless first half, Edgars Peca put the visitors ahead on 59 minutes. Peter McIntyre, back in the Kilmallie side after injury, equalised on 65 minutes. However Andrew Hay on 75 minutes and Edgars Peca’s second of the afternoon 5 minutes from time gave Strathspey the points and they end the season in a credible seventh place in the table. Caberfeidh 4 Strathglass 2 Caberfeidh beat Strathglass 4-2 at Castle Leod. Cabers were 5-2 winners, with Blair Morrison getting a hat-trick, when the sides met at Cannich at the beginning of the month so this win gave them a double success. Iain MacDonald on 15 minutes and Colin MacLennan on 24 minutes put Cabers two up. However goals from youngster Josh Fraser on 41 minutes and veteran Garry Reid on 65 minutes made it 2-2. Cabers fought back and Graeme MacGregor a minute later and Colin MacLennan’s second strike of the afternoon just 3 minutes from time gave the home side the win. Inverness W/O v Lochcarron The Bught Park meeting between Inverness and Lochcarron was off as Lochcarron were unable to raise a team so the points went to the home side. This ended a fine Lochcarron run which saw them win their last five league games in a row. |
