The Shinty Preview – Saturday 29 September 2012 - UPDATED! | |
27 September 2012 The Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup Final is the main event on the shinty fixture list on Saturday 29 September 2012.
Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup – Final Glenurquhart v Kingussie Glenurquhart and Kingussie meet in the 2012 Aberdein Sutherland Cup Final at Braeview Park on Saturday 29 September 2012. This is the rescheduled final after Newtonmore had the cup taken from them for fielding an ineligible player in both the semi-final and final of the competition. Those Glen and Kings players who have amassed five first team appearances since the semi-final have been allowed to play. Glenurquhart’s Ewan Menzies and Kingussie’s Hamish Anderson will benefit from this decision. However Kingussie’s Rory Fraser will feel hard done by. He was eligible to play in the original final but is not allowed to take part this weekend because of suspension. Graham MacMillan is the match referee and he will be assisted by goal judges Willie Macrae and Russell Ross.
Orion Group Premiership Inveraray v Kyles Athletic There is a repeat of the 2012 Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final as Inveraray meet Kyles Athletic at the Winterton. An under-strength Inveraray side lost at Lovat last weekend. They were without captain Scott Robertson and Ruairidh Graham who have both indicated that this will be their final season. Russell MacKinlay, Douglas Dando and Stuart Robertson were also missing but the home side should have some players back for this one. Kyles have not played since the cup final but will be keen to end a season on a high with a victory against a team which has been a thorn in their side in the past.
Marine Harvest North Division 1 Lochaber W/O v Strathglass Strathglass have been unable to raise a team for their noon meeting with Lochaber at Spean Bridge so Lochaber have been awarded the points. This means that Lochaber are Marine North Division 1 champions and they have secured promotion to shinty’s top flight.
Skye Camanachd v Beauly Second place Skye Camanachd play fourth place Beauly at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. Skye manager Willie MacRae will hope to put last weekend’s team selection difficulties behind him. Keeper Jamie Gannon should come back into contention for this one and Ally MacDonald should be available after illness forced him out of the Lochaber clash. However Chris Rose, Jordan Murchison, Gilleasbuig MacDonald, Iain Morrison and John Moir remain out injured. Beauly co-managers Stephen MacLean and Iain Morrison will likely be without Connor Cormack who picked up an ankle injury in last weekend’s 3-2 win over Inverness. Beauly need a point from their remaining two fixtures to leap-frog Caberfeidh into third place in the table. Throw up is at 1pm.
Marine Harvest South Division 1 Glenorchy v Oban Camanachd Champions Oban Camanachd travel to play Glenorchy, the side relegated from shinty’s top flight at the end of last season. This is the final game of the Marine Harvest South Division 1 programme. Oban Camanachd took advantage of a free Saturday last weekend to play Taynuilt for the JC Memorial Trophy. The Oban side won 3-0 with former player Gavin Stobbart, who has been turning out for Oban Celtic this season, scoring twice and man of the match Andrew MacCuish getting the other.
Marine Harvest North Division 2 Fort William v Kinlochshiel Kinlochshiel and Fort William meet at An Aird. With no 'Shiel first team game, Scotland U21 player John MacRae has been included in the second string. This is both teams’ final league match and a Kinlochshiel win would see them leap-frog Skye Camanachd to finish second in the league.
Marine Harvest South Division 2 Ballachulish v Bute Third place Ballachulish meet seventh place Bute at Jubilee Park. James Dunn could feature for the Islanders following his call up to the Scotland U21 squad this week. The SCOTS player has featured for Bute in the final matches of the season. |
