09 August 2012 Kyles Athletic and Newtonmore will battle it out for the right to face Inveraray in next month’s Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final when they meet at Mossfield on Saturday 11 August 2012.
Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup – Semi Final Kyles Athletic v Newtonmore Kyles Athletic and Newtonmore meet at Mossfield for the right to play Inveraray in next month’s Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final. This tie quite simply takes the mantle of the biggest match of the season for both teams. Newtonmore were 5-2 winners when the sides met in Tighnabruaich on league duty three weeks ago but Kyles were missing full back Donald Irvine that day and he will be in his usual position for this one. However young defender Zac Coley is still side-lined with a broken hand. Newtonmore should be at full strength which gives manager Norman MacArthur some selection choices. The match will be televised live by BBC Alba. Throw up is at 4.05pm and Graham Cameron is the match referee.
Orion Group Premiership Glenurquhart v Lovat There is a local derby at Blairbeg where Glenurquhart meet Lovat. The Glen’s Jamie MacPherson will miss out against his former club as he has started a new job in Kirkwall. However he has been able to secure time off next weekend to play in the Artemis Macaulay Cup Final. Work commitments also rule out Glenurquhart’s Andrew Corrigan. Throw up is at 2pm. Bute v Inveraray Bute meet Inveraray in a derby clash at the Meadows. The home side must win if they are to retain any slim hopes of remaining in shinty’s top division. Inveraray will be on a high from securing a place in the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final last weekend. Russell MacKinlay missed that game and he is likely to miss this one too. Inveraray defender Allan MacDonald is available but he will serve a one match ban in his side’s next outing for a points accumulation. Fort William v Kingussie Fort William have home advantage against Kingussie as they return to An Aird for the first time since the £160,000 pitch improvements were completed. Fort boss Peter McIntyre has been struggling to get selection consistency in recent weeks and a raft of players missed last weekend’s defeat to Kyles Athletic. However this has allowed same of the club’s younger players like Jamie Cruickshank and Cameron Grant to get some valuable first team experience. Alex Duncan is free from suspension as is Kyle Grant so both should return. The Kings have Rory Borthwick available after he served a one match ban last weekend but Louis Munro and Craig Dawson are still injured and Ronald Ross is not in the travelling squad. Youngsters Rory MacGregor, Rory MacKeachan and Ryan MacWilliam featured last weekend as boss Russell Jones has an eye on expanding the squad for next season. Throw up is at 2pm.
Marine Harvest North Division 1 Skye Camanachd v Beauly Skye Camanachd meet Beauly for the first time this season at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. Skye captain Shockie MacLennan is out after picking up a leg knock in last week’s draw with Lochaber. Shaun Hedley serves a one match ban for a points accumulation. However Iain Nicolson and Danny Morrison should return. Allan MacKinnon will be available for the Islanders but he will miss next week’s trip to Lochcarron as he is banned. Throw up is at 2pm. Lochaber v Strathglass Lochaber will be favourites when they play Strathglass at Spean Bridge. Brian MacDonald is still out for Lochaber with a hand injury. Forward Shaun Nicolson has been playing with a knee injury. Michael Stokes made a welcome return for Strathglass in their last outing. Throw up is at noon. Inverness v Lochcarron Inverness play Lochcarron at the Bught Park. Somhairle MacDonald is back from holiday but he is on television duty covering the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup semi-final tie between Newtonmore and Kyles Athletic for BBC Alba. Craig Nicholson is suspended for the home side after his red card against Caberfeidh last week and he starts a three match ban but James Cameron is free of suspension. Lochcarron boss Andrew MacKenzie will continue to field several of the club’s younger players with next season in mind. Throw up is at 2pm.
Marine Harvest South Division 1 Oban Camanachd v Kilmory Oban Camanachd meet Kilmory at Mossfield. Gareth Evans is free of suspension for the Oban side but Kilmory’s Bruce Johnstone is banned. Victory would take Oban Camanachd a point clear at the top of the table. Throw up is at 2pm. Aberdour v Glasgow Mid Argyll Aberdour take on Glasgow Mid Argyll in Fife. Bottom side Aberdour have already beaten GMA 1-0 in both the league and the AJG Parcels Glasgow Celtic Society Cup this season. However four goals from Mark Bain gave GMA passage when the sides met in the Balliemore Cup. Throw up is at 2pm.
Marine Harvest North Division 2 Lochaber 3 Kingussie 3 Lochaber and Kingussie shared the points in a 3-3 draw in their 7pm throw up at Spean Bridge on Wednesday 8 August 2012. Savio Genini, John Gibson and player / manager Michael Falconer counted for the Kings but Keith Neville and a Pat Toal double kept alive Lochaber’s slim hopes of beating the drop. Kingussie’s Savio Genini had to be substituted with his second hand injury of the season. Newtonmore v Glenurquhart Newtonmore and Glenurquhart clash at the Eilan. This is Newtonmore’s first game since they were crowned league champions and the Glen were their nearest challengers. Brothers Ben Hosie and Jack Hosie should return for the visitors after they missed the midweek defeat at Balgate against Lovat. Throw up is at noon. Aberdeen University v Skye Camanachd Aberdeen University and Skye Camanachd clash in the Granite City. Jack Latton is still out for the visitors whilst Will Cowie is on first team duty. However Michael Nicolson continues his come-back in goal. Throw up is at 2pm. Kinlochshiel v Fort William Second top Kinlochshiel welcome Fort William to Kirkton. The Fort require just one more win to confirm their place in the league next season. Victor Smith’s side has suffered from losing players to the club’s first team in recent weeks and their priority must be the Sutherland Cup Final. Throw up is at 2pm. Lovat v Kingussie Lovat meet Kingussie at Balgate in what is the visitor’s second game in four days. Jamie Matheson has been in great form for Lovat since his switch from forward to emergency keeper. Kingussie will be without forward Savio Genini who has suffered his second hand injury of the season. Throw up is at 2pm Lochaber v Glengarry Lochaber also play their second game in for days as they face Glengarry in a derby clash at Spean Bridge. The home side are bottom of the division and need to win to maintain their survival fight. Matthew Ross is suspended for the ‘Garry.
Marine Harvest South Division 2 Bute v Lochside Rovers Bute play Lochside Rovers at the Meadows. The visitors, who were crowned champions last weekend, will start as hot favourites. This is the sides first meeting this season as the Islanders were unable to raise a team for their trip to Oban in March. Throw up is at noon. Kyles Athletic v Col Glen Second place Kyles Athletic welcome Col Glen to Tighnabruaich. Chris Blair scored twice as Kyles won the corresponding fixture 3-1 in March. Throw up is at noon.
Marine Harvest North Division 3 Strathglass 2 Caberfeidh 5 Strathglass and Caberfeidh met at Cannich on Tuesday 7 August 2012 with a 7pm throw up. Calum MacIntyre and first team player / manager Robert Geddes were on target for the home side but a Blair Morrison hat-trick and efforts from Arran Ross and Alan Ross gave the visitors the points. Caberfeidh remain sixth in the table with two matches remaining whilst second bottom Strathglass have just one match to go. Beauly v Lewis Camanachd Beauly can clinch the Marine Harvest North Division 3 title with a win over Lewis Camanachd at Braeview Park. This is Lewis Camanachd’s last game of the season and they will be keen to mark a second successful campaign in what will be Paul Duke’s last match in charge. Throw up is at 2pm. Strathspey Camanachd v Lochbroom Nearest challengers Lochbroom head for Freuchie to play Strathspey Camanachd. A goal from Lochbroom’s Jamie MacFadyen was all that separated the sides when they met in Ullapool earlier in the season. Throw up is at 2pm. Inverness v Kilmallie There is a Bught Park meeting between Inverness and Kilmallie. Grant MacKenzie grabbed a hat-trick as Kilmallie ran out 10-0 winners when the sides met at the Canal Parks in May. Throw up is at noon. |
