30 September 2012 Kingussie won the Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup Final and Lochaber are Marine North Division 1 champions following the shinty action on Saturday 29 September 2012.
Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup – Final Glenurquhart 0 Kingussie 2 Kingussie won the 2012 Aberdein Sutherland Cup Final with a 2-0 win over Glenurquhart at Braeview Park. This was the rescheduled final after Newtonmore had the cup taken from them for fielding an ineligible player in both the semi-final and final of the competition. Savio Genini put the Kings ahead from the penalty spot on 17 minutes. Veteran Michael Clark added a second just 3 minutes later. Glenurquhart’s cause wasn’t helped when they had full centre Calum Smith red-carded early in the second half and Kingussie held their lead to retain the trophy they won in Aberdeen last year.
Orion Group Premiership Inveraray 1 Kyles Athletic 1 There was a repeat of the 2012 Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final as Inveraray met Kyles Athletic at the Winterton. However their line-ups were much changed from shinty’s big day. Ewan Campbell put Kyles ahead on 15 minutes and Lewis MacNicol earned Inveraray a point with a 37 minute strike.
Marine Harvest North Division 1 Lochaber W/O v Strathglass Strathglass were unable to raise a team for their noon meeting with Lochaber at Spean Bridge so Lochaber were awarded the points. This means that Lochaber are Marine North Division 1 champions and they have secured promotion to shinty’s top flight. Skye Camanachd 1 Beauly 0 Second place Skye Camanachd beat fourth place Beauly 1-0 at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. A Danny Morrison goal was all that separated the sides in both teams penultimate match of the season. The strike came on the half hour mark when Morrison collected a Darryl Macintosh shy and fired the ball into the top corner of the net. It took a good second half defensive performance to win Skye the points.
Marine Harvest South Division 1 Glenorchy 1 Oban Camanachd 4 Champions Oban Camanachd travelled to play Glenorchy, the side relegated from shinty’s top flight at the end of last season, and they returned home with both points following a 4-1 win. Iain MacMillan and Gus Campbell in the first half, and youngster Sean Morgan and Gavin Stobbart in the second half, got their goals. Finlay Ross countered for Glenorchy. This was the final game of the Marine Harvest South Division 1 programme.
Marine Harvest North Division 2 Fort William 2 Kinlochshiel 3 Kinlochshiel finish second in Marine Harvest North Division 2 following their 3-2 win over Fort William at An Aird. With no first team game, ‘Shiel were able to field Scotland U21 international John Macrae and he netted twice to give the visitors a 2-0 lead at the break. However a Scott Knox double squared the game with just 10 minutes remaining. ‘Shiel were not to be denied though and John MacRae completed his hat-trick 5 minutes from time to give his side the points.
Marine Harvest South Division 2 Ballachulish 1 Bute 1 Third place Ballachulish shared the points with seventh place Bute at Jubilee Park. Duncan MacDonald scored for the home side whilst Arran Dunn was on target for the visitors. |
