Skye Camanachd U17 3 Lochaber U17 2 | |
31 May 2012 Skye Camanachd U17 are through to the 2012 MacTavish Juvenile Cup Final following their 3-2 win over Lochaber U17 at Battery Park, Lochcarron on Tuesday 29 May 2012. With Youth Coach Davie MacVicar unavailable, the Skye youngsters were looked after by first team manager Willie MacRae, second team assistant manager David Grant and U14 Head Coach John MacLeod. The islanders were dealt a blow ahead of the game when Jack Latton had to withdraw with a dislocated shoulder. Captain Will Cowie had stitches inserted in a leg gash following the Skye Camanachd second team’s clash with Fort William at the weekend and he was only fit enough to start at full forward. Angie MacPherson put the young Skye side ahead when he fired home after 18 minutes. However strikes from Lochaber forwards Duncan MacKinnon on 26 minutes and Stuart Matheson a couple of minutes later put the Spean Bridge side 2-1 up at the break. Skye re-grouped at the interval and they were level within a minute of the restart when Will Cowie beat his marker and sent a thunderous drive into the roof of the Lochaber net. Skye regained the lead on 53 minutes and it was that man Cowie who again fired home. Skye continued to play well although Lochaber came back into the game in the closing stages. Indeed it took two fine saves from Skye keeper Raymond Gillies to keep his team in front. The second of these was a breathtaking save with his hand which earned him a warm round of applause from the crowd. Skye will now face Kinlochshiel in the final. They beat Glenurquhart 4-0 in their semi-final clash at Castle Leod. Robin Smith, Oliver MacRae and an Aedan MacRae double counted for ‘Shiel. A big thank you is due to Lochcarron Camanachd for hosting the semi-final and providing hospitality after the game.
