19 February 2012 The Skye Camanachd U14s just missed out on a semi final spot as Newtonmore won the North of Scotland U14 5-A-Side shinty tournament at the Dalfaber Sports Centre, Aviemore on Saturday 18 February 2012. The teams were split into two leagues with the top two sides qualifying for a semi final spot. The Skye youngsters won their opening Red League game when they beat Uist 5-0 with Caitlin Maclean getting a hat-trick and Steven Murchison and James Pringle grabbing the others. Next up for the Islanders was a clash with Strathglass and a James Pringle double and a Caitlin MacLean strike sealed a 3-0 win. Skye recorded a third success when they defeated Glenurquhart 3-0 with Shaun Henderson, Ryan Morrison and Stephen Murchison on target. Skye went down 3-1 to Kilmallie in their penultimate game and this defeat probably cost them a semi final spot. Stephen Murchison got the Skye goal. Newtonmore looked to be a good side from the start of the competition and they beat Skye 2-0 so the Island side finished third in their section and so just missed out on a semi final spot. Fort William qualified as Blue League winners and they beat Red League runners up Kilmallie 4-1 in the first semi final. Red League winners Newtonmore beat Blue League runners up Lochcarron 8-3 in their last four clash. Newtonmore continued their good form to run out 6-2 winners against Fort William in the Final and their performances throughout the day made them deserved winners.
