Skye Camanachd 4 Lovat 0 | |
11 March 2012 The Skye Camanachd second team continued their good start to their Marine Harvest North Division 2 league campaign when they beat Lovat 4-0 at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 10 March 2012. Skye Camanachd boss Murdo Morrison made just two changes to the starting line-up which beat Glenurquhart the previous week. Chris Rose started in place of the injured Chris MacLennan in the centre line and forward John MacKenzie was replaced by Alan Palmer. There were places on the bench for Daniel Morrison and Iain MacPherson. Lovat co-managers Fraser Gallacher and Davie Urquhart were without Rory Cruden who has a broken hand whilst a back injury ruled of Jimmy MacKenzie. Graham MacMillan, who played his part in the Lovat first team’s win over Newtonmore last weekend, started in midfield. The opening exchanges were fairly even but it was Skye who took the lead on 12 minutes. Ally “Spod” MacLeod played a long free-hit from inside his own half. The ball was collected by Alan Palmer who slipped the ball forward into the path of both Iain MacLellan and John Angus MacInnes and it was MacLellan who seemed to get the final touch and he steered the ball into the net. Skye began to take control of the centre line and good work from Paul MacKinnon set up a chance for Alan Palmer and he fired the ball past Chris MacCallum in the Lovat goal to make it 2-0. A couple of minutes later it was 3-0 and this time Paul MacKinnon collected the ball in midfield before lofting it into the roof of the net. Lovat full forward Rory Campbell had to be replaced after taking a knock. Skye had played with the elements in the first half but the continued to dominate from the start of the second period. Skye extended their lead just 2 minutes into the second period when Will Cowie received the ball in space and thumped a 25 yard shot high into the Lovat net. Lovat worked hard to try and get back in the game and they when close on a couple of occasions with Skye keeper John MacLeod twice making excellent saves from Graham MacMillan; first with his foot and then he tipped away a shot from just under the crossbar. MacMillan had another chance but the ball stuck in the mud and he was unable to shoot. At the other end, an Alan Palmer shot came off the foot of the post and Chris MacCallum made a great save with his hand from Skye substitute Angie MacPherson. Skye replaced wing forwards John Angus MacInnes and Iain MacLellan with Angie MacPherson and John MacKenzie. Daniel Morrison came on in place of Allan MacKinnon with Paul MacKinnon going to full centre. Lovat will be pleased to have James Grieve returning from injury and he was their top performer at full back. Paul MacKinnon was the pick of the bunch for the Islanders.
