Skye Camanachd 3 Glenurquhart 0 | |
10 March 2012 The Skye Camanachd second team made a great start to their Marine Harvest North Division 2 league campaign when they beat Glenurquhart 3-0 at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 3 March 2012. Skye Camanachd boss Murdo Morrison fielded a young team with Ally “Duntulm” MacLeod making his first competitive start for the side. Glenurquhart player / manager Iain MacLeod took the field with Mike Cameron taking charge from the touchline. However MacLeod retired early in the game as he was feeling unwell. Ross Macaulay and Callum Fraser were missing as was youngster Jack Hose. David Girvan started at full back as he recovers from a knee injury. The conditions in Portree were poor with a strong wind and heavy rain influencing proceedings. Glenurquhart played with the wind at their backs during the first half but it was Skye who took the led after 25 minutes. Home full forward John Angus MacInnes battled for possession and found Iain MacLellan who fired the ball into the net. Skye should have had the benefit of the wind in the second half but it seemed to change direction but the Islanders did not let this deter them. Paul MacKinnon was a constant threat for Skye and he turned the ball home to double Skye’s advantage. Skye almost went 3-0 in front when Will Cowie lobbed an intelligent to the unmarked Allan MacKinnon but he was unable to get a shot on target. Skye went 3-0 moments later and Will Cowie was again in the thick of the action as he played a sublime diagonal pass to substitute Angie MacPherson and he confidently slotted the ball home for his first senior goal. Skye had several good performers but buckshee Ally "Spod” MacLeod was a stand-out whilst his name-sake Ally “Duntulm” MacLeod made an impressive debut. Drew MacLennan was outstanding for the Glen whilst Ross MacDiarmid also acquitted himself well.
