Skye Boss Willie MacRae Says Fight & Fitness Were Key. | |
19 March 2012 Skye first team manager Willie MacRae feels his side is reaping the rewards from their pre-season training programme following their 4-1 Marine Harvest North Division 1 win over Strathglass at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 17 March 2012. Speaking to the Cuillin FM Saturday Sports Show after the game, MacRae, who saw his side go a goal down in 9 minutes, said, “I thought we were back to how we played against Lochaber last week when the opening goal went in. It was a bit against the run of play but the boys picked it up again and, especially in the second half, I thought the fight shown by the players was incredible. The players went into every tackle, they backed eachother up and the goals came in the end. The fitness work over the last few months is really showing and the boys can run flat out for the full 90 minutes. Attendance at training is good. I didn’t like the type of training that I’m giving them when I was a player but the guys are keen and they realise that the hard work is paying off.” Reflecting on this team’s performance, MacRae said, “Jordan Murchison and Iain Morrison were great up front and they put in a lot of running and hard work with a lot of tracking back. The whole defence was good too and they fought hard for everything.” Next up is the visit of Inverness and MacRae added, “We will gain confidence from this game and take that into the game with Inverness next week. Iain Nicolson should be back next week. He couldn’t travel to Portree this week because of work commitments so he played for the second team at Spean Bridge.” |
