Skye Camanachd 1 Caberfeidh 1 | |
30 July 2012 The Skye Camanachd first team shared the points with Caberfeidh following 1-1 draw in their Marine Harvest North Division 1 meeting at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 28 July 2012. Skye manager Willie MacRae named a 15 man squad for this 1pm throw up and he made three changes from the squad which lost to Kyles Athletic a fortnight ago. Iain Munro dropped out as he is working at the Olympics. Allan MacKinnon and Danny Morrison missed out as they are on holiday. However Paul MacKinnon and Alan Palmer are called up from the second team and they started on the bench. Skye remained without longer-term injury absentees Gilleasbuig MacDonald, Jamie MacDonald and Iain Morrison. Caberfeidh boss Stuart MacLennan was without Brian MacDonald and Gary MacLennan but was other-wise at full-strength. Skye captain Shockie MacLennan won the toss and opted to play with the wind in the first half. Skye almost took an early lead when an exchange of passes between Iain Murray and Iain Nicolson set up a chance for Jordan Murchison but he hesitated before shooting and the chance was gone. Moments later Darryl Macintosh beat his marker on the right and found Jordan Murchison who played in Iain Nicolson but he was thwarted by Cabers full back Gavin MacDonald. Skye had the majority of the early pressure but it was Cabers who took the lead after 8 minutes. Kevin Bartlett created a shooting opportunity but his shot was deflected into the path of Craig Morrison and he fired home. Bartlett again threatened from a Ruairidh MacLennan corner but the Scotland international shot wide. Skye’s response was immediate as Aonghas MacDonald sent a huge goal-hit deep into the Cabers half where Iain Nicolson played a one-two with Iain Murray before shooting into the net to make it 1-1. Jordan Murchison had a shooting chance but opted to feed Iain Nicolson but he was unable to get a shot on target. Skye keeper Aonghas MacDonald made a great save with his feet to deny Kevin Bartlett on the 28 minute mark. Skye manager Willie MacRae made the first change of the afternoon after 35 minutes when Alan Palmer came on in place of Iain Murray. Skye had the last chance of the half when Alan Palmer chased a ball which seemed to be going out of play. However Palmer reached the ball and cut it back for Iain Nicolson but his shot went past the keepers left post. Skye created the first opening of the second period when Ally MacDonald released Chris Rose down the Skye right. Rose found Iain Nicolson who got away from his marker but his shot fizzed past the keeper’s right post. Kevin Bartlett became the first player to have his name taken by referee Billy Wotherspoon on 52 minutes when he showed his frustration after losing out in a challenge to Skye’s Steven Morrison. Will Cowie came on in place of Iain Nicolson for Skye a minute later as the forward line switched formation. Good play from Darryl Macintosh saw the ball played to Will Cowie who deflected the ball into the path of Jordan Murchison and his shot went past the left-hand post Shaun Hedley collected a cross-field pass from Ally MacDonald before pushing forward and shooting just over the bar. Donald Mellis made a superb save above his head from a 25 yard Alan Palmer drive as Skye continued to press. At the other end, Aonghas MacDonald had to look lively when he stopped a Stuart Kryzanowski shot with his feet and Shockie MacLennan cleared the ball for a corner. Caberfeidh replaced Martin MacDonald with Aaron Ross on 67 minutes. The visitors went on to enjoy their best spell in the game without really threatening Aonghas MacDonald’s goal. A Jordan Murchison shot went narrowly wide as Skye tried to get back into the game. Ally MacDonald was next to go close for the home side when he cut in from the left and shot wide. Paul MacKinnon replaced Alan Palmer on 77 minutes. Aonghas MacDonald saved well with his feet at his near post from Kevin Bartlett with 8 minutes remaining and Neil MacVicar cleared the danger. Aonghas MacDonald had to race from his goal to deny Stuart Kryzanowski after Steven Morrison had slipped to allow the substitute a run at goal. Aaron Ross cut in from the right 0n 87 minutes but Aonghas MacDonald saved his shot. Both Shaun Hedley and Iain MacColl were booked in the final minute for a shoving match. Caberfeidh were well served as usual by Ally MacLennan and Kevin Bartlett but it was defender Ewen Murray who really caught the eye with a fine performance. Skye’s best players were in defence and their match against Lochaber next weekend takes on even greater importance after this dropped point.
