The Camanachd Association has announced that Scottish Hydro has signed a three year extension to their shinty sponsorship of the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup various youth activities.
The renewal represents an investment of more than £150,000 over the next three years. As well as the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup, the sponsorship will also cover the Scottish Hydro Youth Development Camp for U17 players and the Scottish Hydro Youth Development Fund. The Fund, which was introduced in 2011, aims to support member clubs who wish to increase youth participation by providing a grant award in support of new or enhanced club initiatives that will deliver sustainable growth in the number of young people playing shinty.
Speaking on the announcement, Camanachd Association Director Donald Stewart said: "This announcement is another good news story for shinty. Scottish Hydro has shown the Camanachd Association and the sport itself huge support over the past five years, with the name 'The Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup' becoming renowned amongst the shinty community, so it is great to know that the partnership is continuing for a further three years."
Scottish Hydro Sponsorship Manager Jonny Petrie spoke of his delight at Scottish Hydro maintaining their financial commitment and support of shinty and the Camanachd Association. He said, "We are very proud to be associated with the game of shinty. By extending our sponsorship of the Camanachd Cup, and supporting both the Youth Development Camp for U17 players and the Youth Development Fund, we are reaching out to players at various stages in their journey through this great sport."
