Newtonmore U14 Win 2012 Donnie MacLean Memorial Sixes | |
23 September 2012 Newtonmore U14 won the 2012 Donnie MacLean Sixes following a super day’s youth shinty at Spean Bridge on Sunday 23 September 2012. A total of sixteen teams took part in the competition and there was early morning disappointment for Lochcarron who had to pull out because of illness and Boleskine, who had to withdraw after getting held up as the road was closed following a road accident. Following the league section games, Newtonmore, Kingussie, Glenurquhart and Fort William, who edged out Kilmallie on goal difference, all made the semi-finals. Newtonmore over-came Badenoch rivals Kingussie to reach the final whilst Glenurquhart beat 2011 winners Fort William in their semi-final. The final between Newtonmore and Glenurquhart was a tense affair and it ended goalless. However an Iain Robinson goal in extra time meant Newtonmore came out on top and their success helped erase the memory of last week’s MacMaster Cup defeat to Oban Camanachd. |
