Lochcarron 0 Skye Camanachd 3 | |
23 August 2012 Skye Camanachd beat Lochcarron 3-0 in their Marine Harvest North Division 1 derby match at Battery Park on Saturday 18 August 2012. Skye manager Willie MacRae made four changes from the 17 man pool which beat Beauly the previous weekend. Iain Nicolson was unavailable and Will Cowie and Neil John Campbell returned to second team duty. U17 forward Angie MacPherson dropped out of the squad. However Shaun Hedley returned from suspension whilst Daniel Morrison was also included for this 2.30pm throw up. Shockie MacLennan was missing with a leg injury whilst the Islanders remained without longer-term injury absentees Gilleasbuig MacDonald and Iain Morrison. Lochcarron manager Andrew MacKenzie was without Kenny Ross so Douglas MacKenzie deputised in goal. Iain MacKenzie and Calum Finlayson were other notable absentees. Skye played towards the road end with the wind at their backs in the first half but it was Lochcarron who attacked from the throw up and forced a corner. However Skye broke and an Ally MacDonald shot was deflected over the bar. Douglas MacKenzie made his first save of the game following a turn and shot from Danny Morrison. Skye took the lead after 5 minutes. A Darryl Macintosh shy on the right was chested down by Johnny Stewart but Jordan Murchison nipped in and knocked the ball goalwards where it deceived Douglas MacKenzie at his right post and rolled into the net. Lochcarron went back on the offensive from the throw up and Steven Morrison fouled Gregor Cushnie but Lochcarron were unable to make anything from the free-hit. Some nice movement between the Skye forwards ended when Iain Murray shot wide. Jordan Murchison played in Ally MacDonald but he fired wide as Skye continued to press. Douglas MacKenzie got his body in the way to deny Danny Morrison after he played a one-two with Jordan Murchison. Chris Rose won the ball in midfield and evaded two challenges before shooting over the bar on 15 minutes. Jordan Murchison found Danny Morrison moments later but MacKenzie saved well with Finlay Stark clearing the danger. Skye spurned a chance to increase their lead when they were awarded a penalty on 20 minutes. Allan MacKinnon won possession and found Iain Murray who played a one-two with Jordan Murchison before passing to Danny Morrison. He slipped the ball to the edge of the D to Ally MacDonald but referee Duncan Kelly spotted a kick by a Lochcarron defender and pointed to the penalty spot. However Murchison’s penalty was fired low to Douglas MacKenzie’s right but the keeper got a foot to the ball and he turned it away for a corner. An Allan Mackenzie shot flashed across the Skye goal and reminded Skye how slender their 1-0 lead was. Lochcarron wing forward Sean MacCuish suffered an accidental head knock on 25 minutes and, with blood streaming from the wound, he had to be replaced by Ben Dalgety. Douglas MacKenzie again saved Lochcarron when he came off his line to block a Danny Morrison shot and Ally MacDonald put the rebound over the bar. Iain Murray collected a loose ball and played a good pass to Danny Morrison on the Skye right. He found Ally MacDonald who put the ball across field to Shaun Hedley who cut inside before shooting over. Skye continued to press and Steven Morrison broke up a Lochcarron attack and played a long ball to Ally MacDonald. He switched a good pass to Danny Morrison who rolled the ball to Jordan Murchison and he sent a sweet shot just wide of target. It was one-way traffic and Jordan Murchison passed the ball across goal when he would perhaps have been better being a bit more selfish and shooting for goal. Skye finally notched a second goal on 38 minutes. Jordan Murchison collected a Darryl Macintosh shy on the penalty spot and he played the ball on to Danny Morrison and he gave Douglas MacKenzie no chance and he fired low into the net to make it 2-0. Just 60 seconds later it was 3-0. This time Neil MacVicar won the ball as Lochcarron attacked from the throw up. Danny Morrison controlled MacVicar’s pass and he turned provider for Jordan Murchison who took the ball down and crashed it into the net for his second strike of the afternoon. Jamie Gannon made his first save of the afternoon a minute later when he palmed away a great shot from Ben Dalgety after good lead up play from Crisdean Finlayson. At the other end, Johnny Stewart did well to intercept a ball from Danny Morrison as Jordan Murchison lurked with intent. The home side almost pulled a goal back when Allan MacKenzie shot just past the post as the first half drew to a close. There was a flare up just before the break when Steven Morrison and Gregor Cushnie clashed. Referee Duncan Kelly awarded Lochcarron a free-hit in a dangerous position but they were unable to conjure up an attempt at goal. Duncan Kelly’s whistle signaled the end of the first half and Skye took a 3-0 lead into the break. Lochcarron enjoyed most of the possession in the opening period of the second half without troubling Skye keeper Jamie Gannon. David Cameron replaced Gregor Cushnie in attack for Lochcarron. Skye’s Chris Rose collected a pass from Ally MacDonald on 59 minutes before going on a 30 yard run and shooting just wide. Skye came even closer a minute later when Shaun Hedley won possession and found Jordan Murchison whose first time ball gave Danny Morrison the chance to shoot but Douglas MacKenzie narrowed the angle and the ball broke to Ally MacDonald who rolled it goalwards between a ruck off players but it was cleared off the line by Alan MacKay. Another good passing move ended when Ally MacDonald collected a Jordan Murchison pass but he put the ball wide of goal. Iain Murray set up a chance for Ally MacDonald but his shot missed the target. Darryl Macintosh forced a save from Douglas MacKenzie. Lochcarron made their final substitution when they introduced David MacCuish. Skye suffered a blow on 76 minutes when a reckless swing from Lochcarron’s Alan MacKenzie caught Steven Morrison below the knee. This earned MacKenzie a yellow card and Morrison later required a couple of stiches to the wound. Neil MacVicar went to full back and Jamie MacDonald came on at wing back. Douglas MacKenzie made a good save from a Danny Morrison shot from distance and he did even better to thwart Jordan Murchison from the rebound. Lochcarron’s Mark Sproule tried his luck with a shot from distance but he was unable to find the target. Skye made their second substitution when Iain Murray, who has recently been showing some good form in the Skye attack, was replaced by Aonghas MacDonald. Daniel Morrison came on in place of Jordan Murchison for the closing minutes and he nearly made an immediate impact and Douglas MacKenzie had to move quickly to stop Morrison’s shot creeping in at his right post. The win keeps Skye top of the table and their forwards linked up well, particularly in the first half. Chris Rose was a stand-out in midfield. Skye boss Willie MacRae will be hoping that Steven Morrison’s injury doesn’t keep him out of action. Best for Lochcarron were keeper Doulas MacKenzie whilst Johnny Stewart impressed in defence.
