Lochaber 7 Skye Camanachd 1 - UPDATED | |
11 March 2012 Skye Camanachd went down to a disappointing 7-1 defeat to Lochaber in their Marine Harvest North Division 1 meeting at Spean Bridge on Saturday 10 March 2012. Lochaber boss Michael Delaney had an injury doubt over his son Ben Delaney but he started at full forward although he was withdrawn at the break. Skye Camanachd manager Willie MacRae fielded the same starting line-up which beat Caberfeidh 4-3 the previous weekend. Indeed the only change to the squad was Magnus Burd replacing the unavailable Iain Murray on the substitute’s bench. Manager Michael Delaney had asked for a reaction from his players following Lochaber’s draw with Lochcarron the previous weekend and he certainly got it. Skye suffered a blow on 10 minutes when Danny Morrison left the field with a suspected broken finger. Morrison had netted three times in his previous two outings so Skye will be hoping his absence is not a long one. The home side led 2-0 at the break and went on to rack up five second half goals before a great strike from Jordan Murchison gave Skye the merest consolation. Skye lost captain Shockie MacLennan on the hour mark with a hamstring problem. Scottish U21 international Zandz Ferguson notched a hat-trick for Lochaber as did senior international Shaun Nicolson. Scott Patterson got their other. To round off a bad day for the Islanders, Jamie MacDonald took a knock to the knee which left it swollen. Having just returned from 18 months out with an injury to the same knee, the Skye camp will monitor his recovery through the week and hope there is no further damage. As much as this was a below-par performance from Skye, nothing should be taken away from Lochaber’s excellent showing. They are a big, strong team and their forwards were ruthless in front of goal. They will take some stopping in this form.
