Kyleakin Primary School Makes Major Contribution To The Scotland Cause | |
06 October 2012 Kyleakin Primary School on the Isle of Skye has made a major contribution to the Scotland international shinty squads in recent years. Kyleakin, in the south of Skye, is one of the Highland's smaller primary schools yet it is well represented at this year’s Shinty / Hurling / Camogie meetings. Skye Camanachd captain Shockie MacLennan attended the school and he is part of the Scotland U21 squad which plays Ireland U21 under the floodlights at Gurteen on Friday 26 October 2012. The Scotland Women’s squad meet a Clare Camogie select at the Father McNamara Camogie Field, County Clare the following morning and their co-manager is Sarah Corrigall, another former pupil of the school. Other past pupils have also achieved notable international success. These include Skye Camanachd full back Steven Morrison, a former U21 National Player of the Year and first cousin of Sarah Corrigall, who won three international caps and captained the Scots against the Irish in 2010. Shockie MacLennan’s older brother Ally MacLennan represented Scotland at U21 level on two occasions whilst Steven Morrison’s younger brother Danny Morrison played for Scotland at U17 level. All of these players were coached by former Skye Camanachd first team manager Ally “Mhor” Morrison, himself a former pupil, and who was previously named Camanachd Association National Youth Coach of the Year. All in all, for such a relatively small school, Kyleakin Primary School has made a remarkable contribution to the Scotland international set-up in recent years.
