The inaugural Girls National First Shinty Competition was held at Portree High School on Friday 20 April 2012.
A total of seven teams took part in the event including four Skye teams; Dunvegan, Elgol, North End and Portree. The teams from further afield were Lochcarron, Grantown and Ardnamurchan and all participants showed a great standard of First shinty.
The teams played in a round-robin format and the top two teams, Portree and Elgol, took part in the final with Portree running out eventual 2-0 winners.
The final placings were as follows;
1st place - Portree
2nd place - Elgol
Joint 3rd place - Ardnamurchan & North Skye (12 points each)
Joint 4th place - Dunvegan & Lochcarron (11 points)
5th place - Grantown (6 points)
Highlife Highland Active Schools Co-ordinator Sarah Ross organised the event and she passed on her thanks to;
* Wilma MacRuary and community sports leaders from Portree High School.
* Senior pupils Ilana Paterson, Sophie Tinney & Angie Macpherson who assisting with refereeing.
* Russell Jones from the Camanachd Association for the donation of the trophy for the event and his assistance on the day.
* All the coaches and parents for making it possible for the girls to attend.
