Double Oban Success For North Ladies | |
07 October 2012 The North came out on top in both the U18 and senior representative matches at Mossfield on Sunday 7 October 2012. This is one of the biggest days in the women’s shinty calendar with most of the game’s top players on show. The North U18 and South U18 sides were first up in a 1pm clash. The North have dominated this event in recent years although they had to fight all the way to secure a 4-3 victory last year. However they were more comfortable 3-0 winners this time. Captain Hazel Hunter from Strathglass scored twice whilst Glengarry's Ashley Fraser got the third. Skye Camanachd Ladies excellent performances this season were recognised with keeper Ilana Paterson keeping a clean sheet and Rosalind Lamond excellent in defence. Caitlin MacLean also gave a fine performance in midfield. The senior match was a 2:30pm start and one interesting facet to this game was that the Scotland Women’s coaching team was divided on this occasion with Sarah Corrigall coaching the North and Laura MacKay taking up the lead for the South. Their presence also gave all the Scotland squad players on show the chance to catch the eye ahead of the Shinty / Camogie international between Scotland and a Clare Camogie select in County Clare on Saturday 27 October 2012. The North beat the South 6-0 last year and they secured the title for the third consecutive year with a narrow 2-1 win. The potent Skye Camanachd Ladies strike force of Lorna MacRae and Jenna Beaton weres included in the North squad and Lorna MacRae scored what proved to be the winning goal. Lorna MacRae has been named in the Scotland party for this month's Shinty / Camogie clash with County Clare in Ireland and Jenna Beaton is on the stand-by list.
