Camanachd Association Confirms Marine Harvest North Division 1 Third Fixture. | |
09 February 2012 The Camanachd Association has confirmed that a third round of fixtures will take place in Marine Harvest North Division 1 this season. A Camanachd Association statement issued onThursday 9 February 2012read, “The Camanachd Association would like to confirm that following discussion with the clubs playing in Marine Harvest North Division 1 this season, there will be a third round of league fixtures resulting in each team playing 18 league matches. No North team has been relegated from the Scottish Hydro Premier Division in the last two seasons and the winners of Marine Harvest North Division 2 have declined promotion to Marine Harvest North Division 1. This has resulted in only seven teams entering Marine Harvest North Division 1 in 2012. This would result in only twelve league fixtures, which many of the teams involved felt was insufficient with the playing season due to commence on Saturday 3 March 2012; scheduled to be completed by July 2012. Some of the parties also felt that this was inadequate preparation for the team gaining promotion to the Premier Division in 2013. The Camanachd Association investigated options such as Newtonmore as winners of Marine Harvest North Division 2 moving up, as well as either Glengarry or Ballachulish playing in Marine Harvest North Division 1 this season. A consultation with the clubs involved took place last night at which a vote was taken resulting in the majority of clubs voting for the additional fixtures, following this the Board of Directors have confirmed the recommendation from the Competitions Working Group to include the additional fixtures. The third round of fixtures will be a repeat of the first round of fixtures resulting in the teams each having nine home and nine away fixtures. The Camanachd Association has also confirmed that a review of the Competitions Structure will take place during 2012 with proposals to be formulated prior to the start of the 2013 season.” |
