Camanachd Association President Speaks Of Disappointment For Shinty | |
05 August 2012 Camanachd Association President Archie Robertson said that the developments following last weekend’s Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup Final between Kingussie and Newtonmore were disappointing for shinty. The President was referring to the initial investigation which has taken place into a claim that Newtonmore’s Calum Stewart, who scored two goals in Newtonmore’s 5-4 win, had exceeded the number of first team appearances to be eligible for the competition. Speaking to BBC Alba’s Hugh Dan MacLennan ahead of the televised Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup semi-final tie between Kinlochshiel and Inveraray, Archie Robertson said, “Well, firstly, it was very disappointing for shinty generally after such an exceptionally good final that we should have this development. The matter is going through the due process at the moment and our Chief Operating Officer, Torquil MacLeod, who is the disciplinary administrator in this case, is carrying out the investigation and he is following the process that requires the matter to go to the Behaviour in Sport Committee. That has been done and that club involved have co-operated completely with Torquil during this investigative procedure.” The Camanachd Association has said that the Behaviour in Sport Committee will convene at the earliest opportunity to consider whether Newtonmore fielded an ineligible player in the semi-final and final of this year’s Sutherland Cup competition. |
