Caberfeidh 3 Skye Camanachd 4 - UPDATED | |
04 March 2012 Skye Camanachd came from 3-0 down to beat Caberfeidh 4-3 in their Marine Harvest North Division 1 opener at Castle Leod on Saturday 3 March 2012. Caberfeidh boss Stewart MacLennan was without Iain MacColl through injury and Ewen Murray whilst Ally MacLennan was suspended. Brian MacDonald started at full back with Scotland international Kevin Bartlett at buckshee back. Skye Camanachd manager Willie MacRae was able to call on Jamie MacDonald who made his competitive return after over 18 months out through injury and he started in defence. Neil MacVicar played despite still having stiches in his leg from a knock picked up the previous week against Lovat. Allan MacKinnon was unable to travel and Gilleasbuig MacDonald played despite suffering the effects of a heavy cold. Iain Nicolson started at full centre with Iain Murray starting on the bench as he had been unwell. Caberfeidh played with the wind at their backs in the first half and they took the lead on 7 minutes when Lee Nicol sent a 25 yard daisy-cutter into the net. Skye responded and Danny Morrison cracked a shot off the post as the visitors looked to get on level terms. Stewart Kryzanowski made it 2-0 on the half hour mark when he flicked a rebound into the net after Skye keeper Aonghas MacDonald had saved an initial shot. It was then Lee Nicol's turn to hit the frame of the goal as his rocket shot came back off the post. When Stewart Kryzanowski swept a cross into the net to make it 3-0 on 63 minutes, the points seemed sure to go to the home side. Darryl Macintosh had been pushed into the attack and his presence seemed to un-nerve the home defence. Indeed Macintosh saw one great 30 yard effor brilliantly saved under the bar by Cabers keeper Donald Mellis. Referee John Matheson awarded Skye Camanachd a penalty a minute later but Iain Nicolson’s spot hit was saved by Cabers keeper Donald Mellis but the home side was unable to completely clear the danger and Darryl Macintosh rifled the ball into the net. The goal gave Skye a boost and Jordan Murchison reduced the deficit to a single goal just 3 minutes later when Jordan Murchison netted following a goalmouth scramble. It was all square on 72 minutes when Danny Morrison made it 3-3. Jordan Murchison made a good run down the left before cutting along the touchline and playing the ball along the front of the goal where Danny Morrison flicked it into the net for his fourth goal in the last three games. Iain Nicolson scored what proved to be the winner 10 minutes from time, Darryl Macintosh sent over a low cross from the right and the ball broke to Iain Nicolson around 12 yards out and he sent a shot through a shot through a ruck of players, low into the bottom right corner of the net to earn two valuable points. Cabers pushed Kevin Bartlett into attack in the closing stages and he sent one effort just wide of target. Caberfeidh wing centre Martin MacDonald was sent off in the final minute following a challenge on Shaun Hedley. Skye finished the game strongly and seemed to benefit from the extensive training sessions led by boss Willie MacRae over the winter months and they will take confidence from this result ahead of their visit to Spean Bridge to play Lochaber next weekend.
