Beauly 3 Skye Camanachd 1 | |
22 August 2012 The Skye Camanachd second team lost 3-1 to Beauly in the Strathdearn Cup semi-final at Braeview Park on Saturday 18 August 2012. Skye manager Murdo Morrison named a 17 man squad for the 2.30pm throw up. There were two changes from the squad which lost to Aberdeen University the previous weekend. Michael Nicolson and Ally MacCrimmon dropped out of that 15 man squad. However keeper and assistant manager John MacLeod returned whilst Will Cowie, Neil John Campbell and U17 player DJ Gilpin were also included. Paul MacKinnon started in at full centre with Stewart Grant and Magnus Burd at wing centre. Beauly won the Marine harvest North Division 3 championship last weekend and they fielded an experienced side which included Roger Cormack at full back and a potent forward line of Connor Ross, Sean Stewart, Martin Davidson and U17 player Calum Morrison. A combination of poor defending and some back luck left Skye trailing 2-0 after just 17 minutes. First the visiting defence failed to clear their lines on 6 minutes and a Calum Morrison shot came off Andrew Banks shoulder and flew high into the net. Another defensive lapse gave Martin Davidson the chance to shoot and his shot hit deflected off David Grant’s heel and wrong footed Islanders keeper John MacLeod to make it 2-0. Skye full back David Grant then suffered an accidental blow just below the knee and Iain MacLeod came on in his place. However Grant later returned to the field after treatment. Beauly put the tie out of sight on 52 minutes when a Calum Morrison shot crept under the feet of Skye keeper John MacLeod. Skye pulled a goal back on 56 minutes when Stewart Grant sent a rasping 25 yard drive past Kyle MacDonald into the net. Skye threw on substitutes John MacKenzie and David MacInnes in attack late in the game but they were not able to add to their goal. It is a good Beauly side, well marshaled by Roger Cormack at the back, which goes forward to face Fort William at Craigard, Invergarry in what could be an intriguing final. Beauly were presented with their Marine Harvest North Division 3 title at the end of the game.
