Alex Michie, Bernisdale | |
03 July 2012 Everyone at Skye Camanachd was sorry to hear of the passing of Alex Michie, Bernisdale. Alex Michie was a fervent Skye Camanachd supporter and a regular attender at games in Portree. He played his early shinty on Skye before turning out for Glasgow / Inverness in the 1960s. Alex has huge family connections with Skye Camanachd and his wife Effie is a Murchison from Bernisdale. Alex and Effie’s son George Michie was one of Skye Camanachd’s finest players until his tragic death in November 1981. Skye Camanachd currently plays an annual memorial match in his honour and the trophy is held by Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup, Orion Group Premiership and Co-operative MacTavish Cup holders Newtonmore who beat Skye 2-0 in February 2012. Alex attended the game and chatted to Newtonmore manager Norman MacArthur afterwards. Alex’s funeral will be at the Church of Scotland, Kensaleyre at 12 noon on Saturday 7 July 2012 and at Skeabost Cemetery thereafter. Our deepest sympathies go out to Effie and the extended family and to Alex’s sister Margaret Bremner and her family. |
