A Case Of Mistaken Identity! | |
23 March 2012 Everyone in shinty has noticed Kinlochshiel’s impressive start to life in the Orion Group Premiership. However the identity of two of their star players has caused some confusion over the last seven days. Following a win over Kingussie and a draw with Fort William, ‘Shiel suffered a 4-2 defeat to Newtonmore last weekend. Trailing 3-0 at the break, the west coast side made a fight of it with an early second half double which was officially credited to Finlay MacRae. However, as anyone who has watched the footage from the game on the Camanachd Association’s Shinty Channel will know, the goals were actually scored by Finlay’s brother Keith MacRae. Most of the media reporting, with at least the notable exception of the West Highland Free Press, credited Finlay with the goals. Finlay was honest enough to get in touch with www.skyecamanachd.com at the start of the week to admit that Keith had scored both goals. When asked how Keith had taken the fact that his brother had been credited with his Eilan brace, Finlay replied, “He is gutted,” with just more than the hint of a grin. The easy way to keep track of the three MacRae brothers – the youngest brother John is also in the team – is to recognise their protective helmets. Finlay wears the black one; Keith sports the red version whilst John has a white shinty helmet. Kinlochshiel travel to Blairbeg to play Glenurquhart in the Orion Group Premiership on Saturday 24 March 2012. |
