Valerie Fraser Cup Final …………. TODAY! | |
27 August 2016 Skye Camanachd Ladies and Lochaber Ladies meet in the Valerie Fraser Cup Final at An Aird, Fort William on Saturday 27 August 2016. The Valerie Fraser Cup was donated to the now defunct North Area Committee by John Fraser, Inverness, a well-known figure in the shinty community. The trophy was named in honour of his daughter, Valerie Olivant (nee Fraser) who passed away on 17 December 1991 after a long illness bravely borne. Valerie Olivant was survived by her husband Robert and their children Christopher, Victoria and Matthew. The trophy was originally played for by male teams in North Division 2 after the Camanachd Association Development Committee looked into providing more matches for second tier clubs in the North. Caberfeidh won the inaugural tournament in 1987 and Valerie Fraser presented the trophy to some of the winning captains. The competition fell into abeyance in the mid-1990s before being donated to the Womens Camanachd Association to become their blue riband tournament. The first women’s final saw Glengarry beat Kingussie in 2002. The previous winners are: 2015 – Glasgow Mid Argyll 2014 – Glasgow Mid Argyll 2013 – Badenoch & Strathspey 2012 – Aberdour 2011 – Glengarry 2010 - Glengarry 2009 – Glengarry 2008 – Tir Conaill Harps 2007 – Forth Camanachd 2006 – Glasgow Mid Argyll 2005 – Glengarry 2004 – Glengarry 2003 – Glasgow Mid Argyll 2002 – Glengarry
