The Shinty Round Up – Saturday 5 September 2015 | |
06 September 2015 It was a good day for Lochside Rovers with just two league shinty matches played on Saturday 5 September 2015.
Marine Harvest South Division 1 Lochside Rovers 3 Bute 0 Lochside Rovers go top of Marine Harvest South Division 1 after they beat Bute 3-0 at Ganavan. The first half looked as if it might end goalless until the strong home side struck twice as the interval approached. Chrissy MacMillan put them ahead on 44 minutes with Daniel MacVicar adding a second on the stroke of half time. Lorne Dickie rounded off the 3-0 win when he scored his first goal since returning from injury with a strike on 81 minutes. The only downside for Lochside was a nasty hand injury suffered by Andrew MacCuish which is likely to keep him sidelined for a few weeks. Lochside now top the table on goal difference from the Inveraray second team. Third place Oban Celtic and fourth place Bute are also still in title contention. Oban Celtic are three points behind the leaders but they have a game in hand. Bute are four points off the top but they have a couple of games in hand and they travel to play the Inveraray seconds next weekend in the division’s top match. An exciting end to the season is guaranteed.
Marine Harvest North Division 2 Lewis Camanachd W/O v Kilmallie Lewis Camanachd were left disappointed for the second successive Saturday as the Kilmallie seconds were unable to raise a team for their trip to Shawbost. Lewis were given a walk-over against the Lochaber seconds for the same reason last weekend and they are again awarded the points this week whilst Kilmallie will be docked a point. This outcome means Lewis leap-frog Kilmallie into seventh place in the league. The Islanders have two matches remaining – away to Lochaber this coming weekend and a home meeting with Aberdeen University. Kilmallie still have four games to go.
Marine Harvest South Division 2 Glenorchy 0 Aberdour 4 The visitors took the points thanks to a 4-0 win as the Glenorchy and Aberdour second teams met at Mart Park. Alex Mitchell scored twice with Ben Thomson and Findlay Williamson getting the others. This was a first league win of the season for the Aberdour reserves. They remain bottom of the table on goal difference from the Ballachulish reserves and both teams have two games remaining, starting with a meeting between the teams at Jubilee Park this coming Saturday.
