Skye Camanachd made Camanachd Cup progress, Caberfeidh and Kilmallie will meet in this year’s Balliemore Cup Final, Newtonmore returned to the top of the Marine Harvest Premiership and there were goals galore in soaring temperatures following the shinty action on Saturday 18 June 2016.
Camanachd Cup – Second Round (Replay)
Skye Camanachd 2 Glasgow Mid Argyll 1
Skye Camanachd are through to the Camanachd Cup quarter-finals after they beat Glasgow Mid Argyll 2-1 in their last-sixteen replay at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree.
Skye Camanachd manager John MacLeod made three changes to the squad which drew 0-0 with Kingussie in the Marine Harvest Premiership a fortnight earlier. Keeper Jamie Gannon was unavailable so Iain MacLeod came in between the sticks. The injured Shockie MacLennan dropped out as did Iain Nicolson who was working. Iain Murray was called up for the senior side for the first time since suffering a broken finger whilst there was also a place on the bench for Allan MacLeod.
GMA boss George Hay was without the injured Ewan Murray and Brian Slattery – both suffered injuries in the first tie between the sides at Peterson Park, Yoker which ended 1-1. John McNulty, who scored the GMA goal in that game, was another absentee as he started a four match suspension for passing through the disciplinary points threshold. However Finlay MacMillan and Brendan McLoone returned.
The match was played in glorious conditions and Craig Anderson and Euan Forsyth forced good early saves from Skye keeper Iain MacLeod.
Kenny Campbell, playing at full forward for Skye, sent an effort past the post and although the first half was end-to-end, there was little to trouble either keeper other than a Kenny Campbell strike on 41 minutes which was saved with his feet by GMA goalie Jonathon Oates after a Jordan Murchison shot was blocked.
GMA took the lead on 46 minutes when a fierce 25 yard shot from Euan Forsyth beat an unsighted Iain Macleod to put the visitors in front.
The goal seemed to jolt Skye into action and they drew level on 52 minutes when Will Cowie sent a ball on goal which keeper Oates saved but the ball kicked up and Jordan Murchison was on hand to score to make it 1-1.
Skye made changes as the game moved into the final 15 minutes and the switches paid off on 79 minutes. Iain MacLeod struck a long goal-hit which was played on by Kenny Campbell to James Pringle who had been pushed forward from wing centre to wing forward. Pringle crossed to Will Cowie who took a good first touch to beat his man and he then finished off the best move of the match to put Skye 2-1 in front.
GMA pushed to take the tie into extra-time but it’s Skye who go forward to the Camanachd Cup quarter-finals. However their task could hardly be more difficult as they travel to the Eilan to play Newtonmore in a tie scheduled for Saturday 9 July 2016.
Balliemore Cup – Semi Finals
Beauly 4 Kilmallie 8
Kilmallie reached the Balliemore Cup Final after they came from 4-1 down to beat Beauly 8-4 in an incredible semi-final tie at Craigard.
Beauly manager Stephen MacLean fielded his usual young side, still minus long-term absentee Barrie MacDonald, for this 1.30pm throw up
Kilmallie boss Mark MacPherson welcomed keeper Shane Gillies and wing centre Jordan MacPhee back. Mark Graham, Robbie MacFadyen and Grant MacKenzie were missing. Michael Rodger was fit enough to take a place in the starting line-up.
Kilmallie threatened first and a Duncan Rodger shot was saved with his feet by Josh Grant with the ball spinning up and over the bar.
However it was Beauly who took the lead on 5 minutes when Ryan MacKay and Conor Ross combined with the former seeing his shot hit come back off the post and the ball fell for Calum Morrison in the middle of the goal and he sent the rebound over the shoulder of keeper Shane Gillies to make it 1-0.
Kilmallie equalised 12 minutes when Michael Rodger won possession from Beauly’s Liam Mutch and he sent a low shot into the net to make it 1-1.
Beauly went on to have a purple patch and they soon led 4-1. They went back in front on 20 minutes when Conor Ross netted from inside the D.
A Ross Forbes shot a minute later took a wicked bounce in front of Kilmallie keeper Shane Gillies and the ball kicked into the net to make it 3-1.
Beauly were on top with full centre David MacLean dominating proceedings.
Beauly added a fourth on 23 minutes with probably the goal of the match. Jack MacDonald collected possession in midfield before turning past marker Martin Stewart and holding off a couple of challenges and he sent a shot from distance high into the net to make it 4-1.
A minute later, referee John Angus Gillies booked Andrew Morrison for a trip on Duncan Rodger just outside the D as he ran in on goal. The Kilmallie set-piece saw Bryan Mackay flick the ball into the air and a stretching Duncan Rodger sent his goal attempt wide of the post.
Michael Rodger was next into the book for kicking out at an opponent following a touchline challenge on 28 minutes.
Kilmallie full back Alan MacDonald performed heroics to clear the ball off the line to prevent what could have been a clinching fifth Beauly goal on the half hour mark.
Liam MacDonald was booked for a late swing on Liam Mutch on 37 minutes and the Canal Parks side seemed frustrated at their lack of possession for their forwards.
Beauly could have sealed the win but Kilmallie keeper Shane Gillies made three first class saves to keep his side in the tie.
The Kilmallie forwards were coming deep to try and help their midfield and, with just seconds of the first half remaining, Liam MacDonald held off Beauly full back Andrew Morrison before striding forward and firing a back-handed shot home to make it 4-2. There wasn’t even enough time for referee John Angus Gillies to restart the match.
Kilmallie boss Mark MacPherson made a couple of significant changes at the break which went on to influence the final outcome. Craig MacIsaac came on in defence and Martin Stewart was pushed on into midfield. This seemed to strengthen both the Kilmallie back line and their centre line and, as a result, they made the better start to the second half
With David MacLean tiring, the Beauly midfield looked vulnerable and Kilmallie reduced the deficit on the hour mark when Duncan Rodger opened his account as he sent the ball high into the net from the right of the D.
Beauly made a couple of changes on 65 minutes with Marc MacLachlan and Robbie Brindle taking over from Conor Ross and Sandy Elrick.
A minute later, Josh Grant came off his line and threw himself at the ball to deny a Michael Rodger run forward.
Referee John Angus Gillies booked Peter Carmichael on 67 minutes for a swing which struck Beauly’s Calum Morrison on the head but, fortunately, he was wearing a helmet. Morrison had been in the act of taking the ball down at the edge on the D before the challenge.
Liam MacDonald drew Kilmallie level on 75 minutes when he crashed a good ball forward high onto the net to make it 4-4.
Kilmallie went in front for the first time in this tie with only 14 minutes remaining when Liam MacDonald cut the ball to Duncan Rodger and he swiped a shot home from inside the D to make it 5-4.
Kilmallie added a sixth with just 10 minutes remaining as a darting run forward from Michael Rodger, down the Kilmallie right ,caused problems in the Beauly defence and Rodger laid the ball on a plate for Liam MacDonald to complete his hat-trick to make it 6-4.
Referee John Angus Gillies awarded Kilmallie a penalty on 82 minutes for an infringement on Kilmallie substitute Aaron Sandison who had burst into the D. But the normally reliable Duncan Rodger saw is penalty saved by Josh Grant.
Kilmallie, who were much better in the second half, also had defender Craig MacIsaac yellow-carded for a swing which caught Ross Forbes as the hot temperatures seemed to require a calming influence from referee John Angus Gillies.
Duncan Rodger completed his hat-trick on 90 minutes when he turned and thumped the ball into the roof of the net to make it 7-4.
As the tie moved into injury time, Beauly were unable too clear a corner and Michael Rodger volleyed home from 10 yards out to make it 8-4.
This was a great advert for shinty and the Kilmallie supporters were delighted to see their team reach the 2016 Balliemore Cup Final.
Strathglass 1 Caberfeidh 3
Caberfeidh will meet Kilmallie in the 2016 Balliemore Cup Final after they beat Strathglass 3-1 at the Bught Park, Inverness.
Martin MacDonald put Cabers ahead on 28 minutes with the only goal of the first half.
Liam Symonds added a second on 48 minutes and when Gavin McLaughlan made it 3-0 on 77 minutes, there was only going be one winner.
Strathglass coped well against higher league opposition and Darren Reid pulled a goal back 3 minutes from time.
Neil Ferguson was the match referee.
The 2016 Balliemore Cup Final between Kilmallie and Caberfeidh is scheduled for Saturday 16 July 2016 with the venue still to be confirmed.
Strathdearn Cup – Second Round
Fort William 5 Newtonmore 4
The Fort William second team are through to the Strathdearn Cup quarter-finals after they turned in their best performance of the season to beat the Newtonmore second team 5-4 at An Aird.
Chris Bamber lined up for Fort William as did Arran MacPhee after a long injury lay-off. There were places for Jordan Morrison, Dean Williamson, Seamus Gall, Lachie Shaw, Ryan Boyle and Lewis Clark who had all featured for the Fort William U17 side which lost out to Skye Camanachd U17 in the RBS MacTavish Juvenile Cup Final a week earlier.
Newtonmore’s Struan Kish was free of a two match ban.
There was an early goal at each end as Scott Henderson gave the Fort a second minute lead but Martin Hall levelled on 8 minutes.
Lewis Clark made the most of an opportunity to put the home side back in front on 15 minutes but ‘More drew level for a second time with John MacKenzie scoring on 27 minutes.
MacKenzie got his second on 35 minutes to put the visitors ahead for the first time in the match. However the lead only lasted a couple of minutes as referee John Matheson pointed to the penalty spot and Arran MacPhee stepped up to make his usual efficient job from the spot.
So it was 3-3 at the break and the scoring continued into the second half. Scott Henderson got his second to put Fort William ahead once more a minute into the second period.
The home side lost Lachie Shaw with a foot injury but that didn’t deter them and Scott Henderson completed his hat-trick on 64 minutes to make it 5-3.
Duncan Gorman made it 5-4 on 81 minutes but the Fort saw out the closing stages and they will travel to Blairbeg to play the Glenurquhart colts in the Strathdearn Cup quarter-finals which are scheduled for Saturday 16 July 2016.
Lewis Camanachd 2 Kingussie 9
The Kingussie colts made their first trip to Shawbost and they secured a place in the next round with a 9-2 win over Lewis Camanachd. The sides had met once before, in 2008, when Kingussie were 14-0 victors in the Strathdearn Cup at Inverlael. Lewis were only playing in the cup competitions at that time and played their home matches in Ullapool.
John Gibson gave Kingussie, who were without Kevin Thain, an opening minute lead and he added a second on 18 minutes.
Lewis forward Donald Lamont got onto a Eoghan Stewart pass but his strike was ruled out by referee by referee Ronnie Campbell
Will Church, set up by Eoghan Stewart, pulled a goal back for Lewis on 22 minutes but a Roddy Young brace on 26 and 27 minutes and a Dylan Borthwick strike on 37 minutes made it 5-1 after the first 45 minutes.
Roddy Young completed his hat-trick a minute into the second half.
Lewis Camanachd’s Ally Lamont made it 6-2 on 54 minutes with Eoghan Stewart again the provider.
However a fourth Roddy Young goal on 71 minutes and a Ruaridh Anderson double on 80 and 85 minutes rounded off the 9-2 success.
Lewis turned in a performance which was full of graft and they were unfortunate with a couple of the goals.
Lochaber 1 Skye Camanachd 5
The Skye Camanachd second team beat their Lochaber counter-parts 5-1 in their noon throw up at Spean Bridge.
Iain MacLellan settled Skye into the tie with goals on 3 and 9 minutes and he went on to complete his hat-trick on 26 minutes.
Ryan Gunn netted for Lochaber on 31 minutes to make it 3-1 at the break.
A first goal at second team level for Marin Pringle made it 4-1 on 66 minutes and Neil John Campbell made it 5-1 on 76 minutes.
Lochcarron 5 Caberfeidh 5 (after extra time - Lochcarron won 3-0 on penalties)
Lochcarron came from 4-1 down to beat the Caberfeidh on penalties after an action packed afternoon at Battery Park.
Nick Dalgety gave Lochcarron the lead on 13 minutes but Colin MacLennan on 21 minutes, Alan Ross on 35 minutes and Stuart Kryzanowski on the stroke of half time meant Cabers led 3-1 at the interval.
When Robbie Sehar made it 4-1 on 58 minutes, things looked bleak for Lochcarron.
However they fought back and three goals in the last 14 minutes took the tie to extra-time. Kieran Murray on 76 minutes, Niall Arnott on 83 minutes and a last-gasp Angus Urquhart effort a minute from time made it 4-4.
Colin MacLennan put Cabers back in front on 98 minutes but Liam Arnott made it 5-5 with 100 minutes played.
And if all that wasn’t enough, referee Archie Ritchie then had to show red cards to Lochcarron brothers Sean MacCuish and David MacCuish and Caberfeidh’s Paddy Wilson following an incident late on.
With no scoring during the final 20 minutes, referee Archie Ritchie took the tie to a penalty shoot-out. Nick Dalgety stepped up first for Lochcarron and scored whilst Alan MacKay did like-wise. Douglas MacKenzie then missed for the home side but Liam Arnott netted. Meantime, Lochcarron keeper Matthew Young had saved all three Cabers’ penalties so Lochcarron won the shoot-out 3-0.
Caithness 0 Kinlochshiel 8
The Kinlochshiel second team sent a young squad north where they beat Caithness 8-0 at Viewfirth.
Caithness had been training hard for this encounter and they only trailed 3-0 at the break with Ross Fraser netting twice on 19 and 32 minutes and Duncan Matheson getting the other 5 minutes before half-time.
‘Shiel, who were minus Colin MacDiarmid who served the second game of a two match suspension, scored three times in a 3 minute spell early in the second half. Ross Fraser took his tally for the afternoon to four goals with shots on 52 and 54 minutes, either side of a 53 minute Nathan Whear strike.
Duncan Newton Grant added his name to the scoresheet with goals on 70 and 80 minutes to complete the 8-0 win.
The Kinlochshiel reserves are also on the road in the quarter-finals as they make the shorter journey to Pairc nan Laoch, Portree to play the Skye Camanachd reserves.
Boleskine 2 Kilmallie 6
The Kilmallie second team sealed their place in the next round with a 6-2 triumph over Boleskine in their 1pm throw up at Smith Park.
Keith Nicolson and Neil Hope scored for Boleskine. However Ross MacKenzie, Ian Robertson, a Jamie MacEachan hat-trick and Kerr Kerr Rodger made it 6-2 to put the Kilmallie second team through and they will have home advantage against Lochcarron in the last eight of the tournament.
Aberdeen University W/O v Lovat
Aberdeen University, top of Marine Harvest North Division 2 were given a bye into the next round after the Lovat reserves were unable to raise a team for their tie at Balgownie. With both teams having long away fixtures, the Balgate side’s resources were stretched as their first team had eight absentees for their league trip to Tighnabruaich.
Aberdeen University will now host the Kingussie seconds in the quarter-finals.
Marine Harvest Premiership
Newtonmore 3 Kinlochshiel 2
Newly crowned RBS MacTavish Cup winners Newtonmore returned to the top of shinty’s top flight after they beat and Kinlochshiel 3-2 at the Eilan. The sides went into the match occupying the top two spots in in the division with ‘Shiel two points better off.
Defender Michael Russell was free to play for Newtonmore but he will miss next weekend’s Artemis MacAulay Cup quarter-final tie with Lovat as his booking against Lochaber in the RBS MacTavish Cup Final takes him through the disciplinary points threshold. ‘More manager Paul John MacKintosh left Glen MacKintosh out of the squad as he manages a knee injury. Iain Robinson was also rested as he took a knock during the week. Chris Sellar was still on holiday. This meant Conor Jones returned to the starting line up in attack with Fraser MacKintosh on the other wing, Norman Campbell at full forward with Evan Menzies pushed out to centre forward.
Kinlochshiel were along usual lines as boss Colin Fraser had a full squad to choose from.
Conor Jones gave Newtonmore the lead on 15 minutes when, with back to goal just outside the D, he turned and his snapshot found its way to the back of the net to make it 1-0.
Newtonmore enjoyed a lot of early pressure and when the ball broke out following another good attack, Evan Menzies found space away from marker Conor Cormack and he hit home a nice drive from around 25 yards to make it 2-0.
Kinlochshiel came back into the game and they pulled a goal back on 27 minutes when Oliver MacRae sent a pass across goal and Keith MacRae hit the ball on the half volley, hard into the net to make it 2-1.
The half time whistle came at a good time for Newtonmore who were showing signs of frustration and they struggled to find the form they showed during the first quarter of the match. To add to their woes, Michael Russell pulled up early in the first half with a muscle injury. It didn’t seem to serious but the home camp didn’t want to risk further damage so Craig Ritchie came on and played very well at wing back.
Newtonmore restored their two goal cushion on 58 minutes when Norman Campbell scored a well taken and ultimately crucial third goal. Campbell got round ‘Shiel full back Paul MacRae and his half-swing from the edge of the D sent the ball into the top corner of the net to make it 3-1.
Newtonmore had chances to add a fourth goal and seal the win but ‘Shiel battled well, as they do, and they got a goal back on 76 minutes when Keith MacRae fired in a hard, low shot from just past the penalty and, whilst ‘More keeper Owen got his feet to the ball, he couldn’t keep it out of the net.
This made for a less comfortable last 15 minutes for Newtonmore but they did just enough to deserve both points and they will hope that the return of Glen MacKintosh, Iain Robinson and Chris Sellar next week will give them plenty options ahead of the Artemis MacAulay Cup meeting with Lovat.
Kinlochshiel put a lot into the game and there was disappointment in their camp that they didn’t take anything from the encounter.
Newtonmore lead Kinlochshiel and Oban Camanachd on goal difference but they have games in hand on their opponents.
Oban Camanachd 2 Glenurquhart 0
Oban Camanachd stay very much in the title race after they beat Glenurquhart 2-0 at Mossfield.
Oban Camanachd manager Iain Hay had a full squad to choose from as Scott MacKillop, Daniel MacVicar and Andrew MacCuish all returned.
Glenurquhart co-managers Billy MacLean and Dave Menzies welcomed John Barr back into their side.
This was the third meeting between these sides already this season with Oban Camanachd winning both earlier encounters.
Lorne Dickie settled home nerves with a good goal on 5 minutes when he sent a 25 yard strike into the top of the net.
Daniel MacVicar made it 2-0 on 37 minutes when he played a one-two with Connor Howe before running into the D and poking the ball past the advancing Stuart MacKintosh in the Glen goal.
Stuart MacKintosh then kept his side in it with three very good saves but, in the second half, it was home goalie Gavin Stobbart’s turn to shine as he made a couple of good stops to deny the Glenurquhart attack.
Oban Camanachd were happy with the win which sets them up nicely for this Saturday’s league visit to Spean Bridge to play Lochaber. Throw up is at the earlier time of 12.30pm.
Kyles Athletic 5 Lovat 0
Kyles Athletic leap-frogged Lovat into fourth spot in the league after they beat the Balgate side 5-0 in their 3pm throw up at Tighnabruaich
Kyles Athletic co-managers Fraser MacDonald and Kenny MacDonald were still without the injured Andrew King, Scott MacDonald, David Zavaroni and Roberto Zavaroni but Dunkie Kerr returned and he started at full forward. Innes MacDonald was passed fit to play following a quad injury in the defeat to Oban Camanachd the previous weekend.
Lovat boss John MacRitchie travelled south with a depleted squad. Captain Drew Howie and Martin Mainland were joined on the injury list by Craig Mainland and the dislocated shoulder and broken collar-bone he suffered in the win over Glenurquhart last weekend will keep him sidelined for a number of weeks. Kevin Bartlett was also missing as were Lorne MacKay, Danny Kelly, Calum MacAulay and Fraser Gallacher. Greg Matheson had to start at full forward although he is not yet fully fit.
The pitch was in excellent condition on a bright, sunny day and Kyles went in front after just 2 minutes. Innes MacDonald touched the ball gracefully past his marker and then shifted it to the left of the other full back and his half-swing from the edge of the D sent the ball soaring into the top corner of the net.
Gordon Whyte made it 2-0 on 10 minutes before Sandy MacKenzie doubled the home side’s advantage with strikes on 25 and 32 minutes.
Robbie MacLeod made it 5-0 on 41 minutes.
There were no goals in the second half which was likely due to a combination of Lovat digging in and Kyles having one eye on next week’s Gregor Cameron Consultancy Glasgow Celtic Society Cup Final.
Innes MacDonald was withdrawn after feeling his leg tighten. This was a precautionary measure with this coming Saturday’s Cup Final meeting with Inveraray, who didn’t have a fixture last Saturday, in mind.
The 2016 Gregor Cameron Consultancy Glasgow Celtic Society Cup Final between Inveraray and Kyles Athletic throws up is at 4pm and the whole match will be broadcast live on BBC Alba.
Lochaber 2 Kingussie 4
It was a fourth meeting this year between Lochaber and Kingussie and after a draw and two defeats; the Kings recorded their first victory with a 4-2 triumph in the 3pm throw up at Spean Bridge.
Lochaber’s Jack Dignan remained on the injury list. Lachlan Campbell and Kevin Ferguson were free to play for Lochaber but they will both miss next weekend’s league meeting with Oban Camanachd as their bookings against Lochaber in the RBS MacTavish Cup Final take them through the disciplinary points threshold. Ferguson will also miss a second match.
Kingussie’s Fraser Munro served the first match of an additional two match suspension following his red card against Lochaber last month but James Hutchison was back in the side after missing the league draw with Skye a fortnight earlier.
Savio Genini put the Kings ahead on 16 minutes but Kevin Ferguson made it 1-1 just a couple of minutes later
Ben Delaney put Lochaber ahead just 5 minutes before the break and it remained that way until the final 16 minutes of the contest.
Savio Genini got his second on 74 minutes to make it 2-2 and James Hutchison on 83 minutes and a hat-trick goal from Savio Genini made it 4-2 just 2 minutes later
Sixth placed Kingussie are now four points ahead of seventh placed Lochaber with both clubs having played ten matches.
Marine Harvest National Division
Ballachulish 4 Bute 1
Ballachulish recorded a first-ever Marine Harvest National Division victory when they beat Bute 4-1 at Jubilee Park.
Ballachulish were without Scot MacDonald who started a four game ban following his red card against Glasgow Mid Argyll the previous Saturday. However John MacDonald was back after a long absence.
Balla’ took the lead on 4 minutes when John MacDonald played a free hit to Malcolm Watson and his shot nestled in the back of the net.
John MacDonald was at the centre of things again on 8 minutes when his shot was missed by Kevin Queen in the Bute goal.
Bute settled after that and the home side took their 2-0 lead into the break.
John MacDonald got his second and Ballachulish’s third goal on 52 minutes. Kevin Queen made a good save but MacDonald collected the rebound and slotted the ball into the goal
Duncan MacDonald made it 4-0 on 81 minutes. Again the goal came from a rebound as Kevin Queen kept out another shot on target but Duncan MacDonald was on hand to knock the ball home.
There was some consolation for Bute 3 minutes from time when a high ball from the right bounced just outside the D and Ben Clarke struck past the keeper to make it 4-1
Marine Harvest South Division 1
Lochside Rovers 6 Taynuilt 2
The fixture between Taynuilt and Lochside Rovers was originally scheduled for the Taynuilt Sports Field but was switched to Ganavan during the week. And league leaders Lochside Rovers stay out in front after they ran out 6-2 winners.
Scott MacMillan was in the Lochside ranks and he opened on the scoring on 6 minutes.
However former Lochside player Liam Higgins drew Taynuilt level on the half-hour mark.
Scott MacMillan put the Oban side back in front with his second goal on 33 minutes but again Liam Higgins equalised, this time just a minute later and it remained 2-2 until the break.
The second half belonged to Lochside and Scott MacMillan completed his hat-trick on 48 minutes.
Donald Campbell wrapped up the Lochside victory with a hat-trick thanks to goals on 70, 82 and 85 minutes to make it 6-2.
Lochside stay a point clear of Aberdour at the top of the table but they have played three games more.
Col Glen 0 Oban Celtic 5
Oban Celtic got back on their winning ways when they defeated Col Glen 5-0 at Glendaruel.
The Oban side travelled determined to prove a point to manger Kenny Wotherspoon after the disappointment a point dropped against Taynuilt the previous week. They were without David MacInnes, Ewan MacCorquodale, David Graham, Gerry Kilmurray, Allan Mckie Callum Fox and Rory Bruce. However there was a place for last season’s top goalscorer, Lee Askew, who made his first appearance of the season.
Celtic started well and forced the Col Glen keeper into a number of saves. They had a chance to take the lead on 14 minutes when referee Ewan MacDonald awarded them a penalty and Daniel Madej scored from the spot.
The visitors continued to press and they doubled their lead 4 minutes later when a through-ball from Kenny Wotherspoon was met by the advancing Fraser MacMillan who rifled a shot into the top right corner of the net.
Celtic pretty much settled the tie 4 minutes before half time when Fraser MacMillan grabbed his second to make it 3-0.
Any chance Col Glen had of getting back into the game disappeared 3 minutes after the restart when Daniel MacMillan scored a fourth.
Celtic completed the scoring on 52 minutes when Daniel MacMillan grabbed his second to make it 5-0.
Col Glen stuck at it but they could find no way through the Celtic back-four of Andy MacDonald, Ally McKerracher, Lewis McPhee and David Hill.
The final outcome was Col Glen’s biggest home defeat of the season and Oban Celtic now climb above them into third spot in the league and they have games in hand on the two teams above them.
Aberdour 2 Glenorchy 1
Aberdour came from behind to beat Glenorchy 2-1 at Sliver Sands.
Aberdour went a man down early in the game when Finlay Williamson was sent off by referee David Mitchell for a late swing at Duncan Smith.
Duncan Smith was to prove to be both saint and sinner for Glenorchy. He gave them the lead on 15 minutes when he slotted the ball home.
Howver an Angus Thorburn volley made it 1-1 just a couple of minutes later.
Aberdour weren’t playing like a team a player short and David MacKenzie passed up a couple of chances to put them in front.
Aberdour took the lead a minute into the second half when Jack Mitchell thumped the ball high into the net with what proved to be the winning goal.
The match turned into a tousy affair and, with 5 minutes remaining, there was more paperwork for referee David Mitchell after he sent off Glenorchy scorer Duncan Smith who will miss this Saturday’s league meeting with Oban Celtic. Throw up is at 1pm.
Kyles Athletic 3 Inveraray 4
The reserve derby meeting between Kyles Athletic and Inveraray was a noon throw and the home side won it by the odd goal in seven at Tighnabruaich.
Lewis Montgomery gave the visitors a 10 minute lead and he got his and Inveraray’s second on 40 minutes.
Kyles were never out of it though and Martin MacFadyen made it 2-1 a couple of minutes before the break.
Kenneth Kirkhope made it 3-1 on 47 minutes but, just 60 seconds later, Kyle Mcmartin was on target to make it 3-2.
Kenneth Kirkhope got his second on 78 minutes to give Inveraray some breathing space and they needed it as Martin MacFadyen got his second a couple of minutes from time to make it 4-3.
This was the Inveraray reserves first league won of the season. They remain bottom of the table but they now only trail Glenorchy and the Kyles reserves on goal difference.
Marine Harvest South Division 2
Kilmory W/O v Oban Lorn
Kilmory were awarded the points when Oban Lorn were unable to raise a team for their 2pm throw up at MacRae Park
This puts Kilmory two points clear of Tayforth at the top of the table although Tayforth now have two games in hand.
(All throw ups were at 2.30pm unless the match report says differently. The match reports will be updated as more information becomes available)
(The picture of a delighted Caberfeidh boss Lee Nicol celebrating another Balliemore Cup Final appearance comes courtesy of Donald Cameron)
