Marine Harvest Premiership Lochaber 3 Lovat 4 Lovat returned to the top of the table after they survived a late fight-back to beat Lochaber 4-3 at a very wet Spean Bridge. Lochaber were without Lachlan Campbell following his red card against Inveraray so Donald MacRae started at full back. Kevin Ferguson was free of suspension but Zandz Ferguson remained out through injury. Lovat’s Martin Mainland had served his one-game ban whilst Drew Howie returned after missing last week’s defeat to Kyles Athletic. Lovat played well in the first half and they raced into a 3-0 half-time lead. They went in front after just 4 minutes. Kevin Bartlett collected possession on the Lovat left and he saw his initial back-hand shot blocked. However the ball fell kindly to his right side and he sent a fierce, low shot into the net from around 20 yards to make it 1-0. The visitors almost doubled their lead on 8 minutes. A Kevin Bartlett cross eluded Lorne MacKay and fell for Lewis Tawse but Calum MacDonald in the home goal made a good save. Lovat did double their advantage on 19 minutes when Greg Matheson got on the end of a cross from Lorne MacKay and Matheson slid in and knocked the ball under keeper MacDonald from a tight angle. Lochaber seemed sure to pull a goal back 3 minutes later when Ben Delaney fired in a great 12 yard shot which was heading for the bottom corner of the net. However Lovat keeper Stuart MacDonald some-how got a foot to the ball and diverted it to safety and Delaney was left wondering how the Scotland keeper had managed to keep the ball out of the net. Connor Sweeney replaced Stuart Callison for the home side on 27 minutes. Lorne MacKay added a third on 31 minutes when his 22 yard shot flew across the keeper into the net. Lovat lost scorer MacKay with a hand injury just before half-time. Greg Matheson came on in his place after earlier being replaced by Bailey MacKay, also because of injury. The wet weather worsened during the interval, leaving the supporters running for cover. Lochaber boss Ally Ferguson made changes in defence at half-time with Neil MacDonald coming on at buck-shee back and Donald MacRae being withdrawn. Lochaber’s Ben Delaney pulled a goal back a couple of minutes after the restart to make it 3-1. Neil MacDonald was a steadying influence on the Lochaber defence and his distribution was excellent. Lovat’s Lewis Tawse had a chance on 63 minutes but his shot was saved by Calum MacDonald. The ball flew into the air and dropped in the muddy goalmouth and the opportunity was gone. Greg Matheson got his second goal of the afternoon on 69 minutes when he collected a Kevin Bartlett cross and beat keeper MacDonald to make it 4-1.Lochaber then staged a fight-back with Shaun Nicolson, who had pushed forward from his full centre role, making it 4-2 on 80 minutes. Substitute Connor Sweeney reduced the deficit to a single goal when he made it 4-3 with just 6 minutes remaining. Lochaber pressed for an equaliser in the closing stages and it took a couple of good saves from Stuart MacDonald to preserve Lovat’s lead. The win puts Lovat top of the table but they have played three games more than second player Kyles Athletic and third placed Newtonmore.
Fort William 4 Glenurquhart 2 Fort William scored twice in the final two minutes to beat Glenurquhart 4-2 at An Aird. Fort’s Ryan Campbell was available after suspension. Fort William had the elements in their favour in favour in the second half and Bryan Simpson got his second on 65 minutes to make it 2-1. However Glenurquhart levelled for a second time through Neale Reid just 10 minutes later. It looked as if the sides would share the points but Graham Campbell’s introduction turned things Fort William’s way and he set up Ewan Campbell to put Fort William in front for a third time with just a minute remaining. Ewan Campbell then got his second with just seconds to go as his blistering drive flew into the net to make it 4-2. Fort William, who were bottom of the table a few weeks ago, now climb to fifth spot.

Full back Jamie MacLennan was still out. John Stewart returned for Kilmallie after receiving a dozen stiches to a mouth cut in the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup defeat to Beauly a fortnight earlier. There were early chances at both ends with Beauly’s Sean Stewart and Liam MacDonald of Kilmallie going close. Kilmallie, playing with a strong wind at their backs, took the lead on 12 minutes with John Stewart rifling the ball into the net from outside the D. Kilmallie continued to press and Michael Rodger made it 2-0 on 37 minutes, blasting the ball home, again from outside the penalty area. However Beauly regrouped at the interval and David MacLean was pushed up front with substitute Sandy Elrick also entering the fray up in attack. Cabers’ Scotland U21 player Blair Morrison has been playing in attack in recent weeks and he got the all-important goal with an hour played.
