The Shinty Round Up – Saturday 10 August 2019 | |
11 August 2019 Oban Camanachd will meet Newtonmore in the Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup Final, Fort William clinched the Mowi National Division title and the Fort William and Newtonmore second teams will contest the Strathdearn Cup Final following the shinty action on Saturday 10 August 2019.
Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup – Semi-Final Kyles Athletic 0 Oban Camanachd 3 Oban Camanachd are through to the Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup Final following their 3-0 win over Kyles Athletic in their 4.05pm throw up at Mossfield. Much of the pre-match discussion surrounded Strachurmore’s suitability as a semi-final venue for shinty’s blue riband event. Oban Camanachd put their displeasure on record whilst Kyles seemed content with the choice. However matters took a midweek twist as, following the early week rainfall, and weather warnings for the days to come, the Strachurmore Committee judged that their pitch was unlikely to be playable. The Camanachd Association explored alternative venues for the televised match. Their criteria included; a playable pitch, space and facilities to accommodate partners from BBC, MG ALBA and Nemeton, parking availability, distance of travel for both teams and supporters as well as the capacity to host a gate. This ultimately left three options; to play the tie the Bught Park, Inverness or Mossfield, Oban or to postpone the match which would present numerable clashes and challenges for all involved. Taking all these factors into account, it was agreed by all parties that the semi-final would go ahead at Mossfield. It was a fine day in Oban and Donald Irvine and Grant Irvine both returned for Kyles whilst Neil MacVicar shrugged off an injury to start in defence. Callum Millar returned from injury to take a place on the bench where he was joined by captain Colin MacDonald, Innes Macdonald, Conor Kennedy and player / manager Dunky Kerr. Scott MacMillan returned to the Oban Camanachd starting line up where he made up a midfield trio with Lorne Dickie and Keith MacMillan. Aidan MacIntyre, Gary McKerracher, Willie Neilson Blair MacFarlane and Craig Easton were held in reserve. The sides had met on four previous occasions this season with Oban Camanachd winning the last three clashes. Oban Camanachd pinned Kyles back from the throw up, forcing four early corners, but the closest they came in the opening 10 minutes was an Andrew MacCuish shot which went wide following a good, one-touch passing move. Daniel Cameron had made a lively start and he swept the ball into the goal area from the right where John Whyte saved with his legs and Neil MacVicar cleared for a corner. Kyles made some positional changes and they responded well, going on to enjoy a period of pressure and Malcolm Clark did well to sweep away a low ball into the D from Paul MacArthur before Thomas Whyte fired over from a wide angle and Rupert William’s strike from a MacArthur free-hit went a fraction outside the post. Oban Camanachd went back in the attack and Andrew MacCuish’s ball from the left was flicked on by Daniel MacCuish but Andrew King showed great timing as he made a goal-saving challenge to deny Daniel MacVicar a shot at goal from the right of the D. Daniel MacCuish went on a surging run forward from deep, sending a low shot on goal but John Whyte saved well with his feet and Donald Irvine knocked the ball out for a corner just ahead of Daniel MacVicar who was looking to pick up any scraps. With 10 first half minutes remaining, Scott Macdonald gathered a Thomas Whyte ball forward before going on a run to the left and his shot goalwards looped off Ross MacRae’s club and Cameron Sutherland in the Oban goal saw his first real action as he did really well, at full stretch, to turn the dropping ball away from just under his crossbar. Daniel MacCuish showed great skill to flick a Daniel Sloss clearance past Neil MacVicar before being brought down as he sped clear. Cameron Sutherland turned away a fierce Thomas Whyte shot from the right before the Oban Camanachd custodian then had to look lively to clear Robbie MacLeod’s ball into the D, getting it away before Scott Macdonald could benefit. As the first half moved into two minutes stoppage time, Rupert Williamson flicked Paul MacArthur’s chip forward into the D but Sutherland was again equal to it. Oban Camanachd manager Stephen Sloss made a change at half-time as Aidan MacIntyre came on at wing centre for Keith MacMillan and MacIntyre made an immediate impact as, from the restart, he played the ball into the goal area from the right. With Andrew MacCuish and Daniel Cameron getting touches, John Whyte cleared for a corner on the Oban left which was initially taken by Scott MacMillan and then cleared for a second corner. This time Daniel Cameron ran across the D and, not for the first time this season, he showed the greater desire to dive forward and steer the ball home to give Camanachd the lead with only 77 second half seconds played. Kyles needed a goal and Grant Irvine pulled a shot wide after Rupert Williamson fed Andrew King’s ball forward back to him. Robbie MacLeod then fired across goal from the left following a Thomas Whyte pass with the ball deflected away for a corner. Callum Millar came on in attack for Kyles just before the hour, taking over from Rupert Williamson. Kyles were knocking on the door and when the ball broke to Scott Macdonald following a corner, he skewed his low shot wide of the keeper’s left post. However the Kyles goal had a scare on 61 minutes when Andrew MacCuish ghosted forward to take down a ball from Daniel MacCuish and his deft flick came off keeper Whyte before bouncing off the post. Cameron Sutherland made good use of his hand to parry a dangerous high ball from Robbie MacLeod before getting the ball away for a corner. Both sides made substitutions with Conor Kennedy taking over from Ross MacRae for Kyles and Keith MacMillan coming back on for Scott MacMillan for Oban Camanachd. Kyles continued in search of a leveller and it took a superb Daniel Sloss block to prevent Grant Irvine getting a shot on goal from the right of the D. The next goal was going to be crucial and it came from another Oban Camanachd corner on the left. Aidan MacIntyre played the ball in and when it broke off Neil MacVicar’s stick, Daniel Cameron was again first to react as he swept the ball low into the net from inside the D to make it 2-0 with 71 minutes played. Kyles immediately pushed Roddy Macdonald into attack with Callum Millar going to full back and Conor Kennedy got under a shot at goal but he sent the ball well over the top. When Daniel MacVicar won the ball on the Oban left, he steadied himself before shooting just wide with 15 minutes remaining. Oban Camanachd freshened things up as Willie Neilson was introduced for Daniel MacCuish just 3 minutes later. The Oban Camanachd defence of Daniel Madej, Malcolm Clark, Garry Lord and Daniel Sloss were all playing their part, which augers well for the side with the challenges ahead, and it took some great defending from Daniel Sloss to thwart Scott Macdonald just outside the D. Both sides were hit by injury as Scott Macdonald went off holding his arm and Willie Neilson’s stay was brief as he hobbled away with a knee injury after an accidental coming together with Andrew King. Oban Camanachd were defending for their lives and Daniel Madej did very well, showing impeccable timing to dispossess Roddy Macdonald as he threatened on the right. Kyles continued to press and Grant Irvine fired wide from the left, Roddy Macdonald’s snap-shot, following Paul MacArthur’s hit-in from the right, went over and Paul MacArthur’s shot deflected wide through a crowded goal area. The Kyles goal just wouldn’t come though and the only missing ingredient from an Oban Camanachd perspective was an Andrew MacCuish goal but it duly arrived a minute from time. MacCuish took the ball to his left side before driving low into the net with the effort deceiving keeper John Whyte. It was Andrew MacCuish’s eighth goal in four matches against Kyles this season. There was still time for Gary McKerracher to come on in stoppage time and Oban Camanachd skipper Daniel Cameron’s two goals and his overall contribution earned him the BBC ALBA man of the match accolade. Andy MacLean was the match referee and his final saw Oban Camanachd through to the Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup Final where they will play Newtonmore at An Aird in a repeat of the 2016.
Mowi Premiership Inveraray 2 Lovat 2 Inveraray moved off the bottom of the table after drawing 2-2 with Lovat in their 1pm throw up at the Winterton. Inveraray had Ruaraidh Graham and Allan MacDonald free of suspension. Lovat were missing Daniel Grieve, Lorne MacKay and Martin Mainland and player / manager Fraser Gallacher, who announced during the week that this would be his final season in charge, and James White were their only substitutes. It had been a beautiful morning in Inveraray but, just as the match was about to start, the heavens opened and there was a shower of hail which lasted most of the first half. The conditions made it very difficult for players to grip their sticks and it was Inveraray who opened the scoring on the half-hour mark when Fraser Watt, who was speedy throughout, sent the ball wide to Garry MacPherson and he went to his left side before pulling the ball back to his right and he sent a shot skidding low into the net. Inveraray only stayed in front for a couple of minutes with Lovat’s leveller coming from a free-hit around the penalty spot after Marc MacLachlan was fouled. Fraser Heath played a low ball into space to the right-hand side of goal and Greg Matheson got there first and his first-time, low, back-hand shot went across goal into the far corner of the net. Fortunately the weather improved in the second half or there was a real chance the match would have been abandoned. Inveraray went back in front on 60 minutes. Callum Cruden was penalised by referee Alex MacVicar for a foul and Lewis MacNicol sent the resultant free-hit long to Allan MacDonald who held off a challenge before finding Connor Howe who fired a low, back-hand shot from just behind the penalty spot which beat keeper Stuart MacDonald. Lovat weren’t to be denied though and Greg Matheson’s second goal on 84 minutes was something special. Lewis Tawse floated a corner from the left over the Inveraray defence and Matheson punished Inveraray for allowing him too much space as his full swing took the ball in the air and it hit the ground on its way into the net. It was a fantastic strike from 25 yards range. Lovat were the better side although Inveraray arguably adapted better to the conditions. Full back Robert Wood and the commanding Lewis MacNicol at centre were best for Inveraray whilst stand-in full back Danny Kelly was a stand-out for Lovat. Inveraray now move off the bottom off the table on goal difference at Lochaber’s expense. However their final three matches are all away from home; to Newtonmore, Kingussie and Oban Camanachd.
Newtonmore 5 Lochaber 1 Newtonmore go third in shinty’s top flight after beating Lochaber 5-1 in their 3pm throw up at the Eilan. Newtonmore took charge early on with Evan Menzies netting on 6 and 14 minutes. His first came following a ball over the top and Menzies went one-on-one with the keeper before netting. His second came from a long ball from Conor Jones which Menzies took down and hit on the spin. Evan Menzies completed his hat-trick 5 minutes into the second half. Drew MacDonald slipped the ball wide to Menzies who turned and hit the ball into the roof of the net. Evan Menzies got his fourth on 62 minutes. The goal came following a cross from Ewen Fraser and Menzies took the ball down at the back post before finishing. Lochaber’s Findlay MacDonald reduced the deficit a couple of minutes later to make it 4-1. However Ewen Fraser made it 5-1 with a lovely strike into the top of the net from 20 yards out with 10 minutes remaining. The two points lift ‘More to third place in the table, ahead of Kinlochshiel on goal difference. They trail leaders Kingussie by three points but have a game in hand which they play this Saturday against Caberfeidh. Manager Paul John MacKintosh will be pleased to have Evan Menzies play his first full 90 minutes since the cottages.com MacTavish Cup Final in mid-June.
Kilmallie 1 Caberfeidh 2 Caberfeidh beat Kilmallie 2-1on a sun-kissed afternoon at the Canal Parks to gather two hard-fought points. Kilmallie’s Innes Blackhall was free of suspension and he returned to the starting line-up as did Liam Cameron whilst Andrew Mcalister took a place on the bench. Jordan MacPhee, Michael Rodger and Aaron Sandison were still out. Martin Stewart played but he will miss his side’s next two matches – at home to Lovat and Kingussie – after passing through the disciplinary points threshold. Craig Morrison, Blair Morrison, Robbie Brindle and Kevin Bartlett all returned to the Caberfeidh starting line-up. Scott MacLauchlan was out with a groin injury and so Russell MacKenzie came into the side. Both teams knew they needed to take something from this one and Kilmallie almost took the lead when Daniel Stewart found space on the left but his shot went into the side-netting. However it was Cabers who took the lead on 11 minutes and it was a 27th goal of the season for Craig Morrison. The goal came following a Jamie MacKintosh corner on the right and when the ball was only half-cleared to the in-form Morrison, he made no mistake, netting from 15 yards and scoring for the sixteenth match in a row. Kilmallie thought they had pulled a goal back when a corner from the left found Craig MacIsaac in the D and he volleyed home only for referee John Angus Gillies to correctly award a free-hit to Cabers. The game was opening up and Kilmallie keeper Shane Gillies pulled off a good save on 17 minutes, keeping out Kevin Bartlett’s 20 yard shot. Kilmallie equalised on 20 minutes following a neat move. Martin Stewart played a good ball forward to Daniel Stewart who cut by his marker before slamming the ball inside the keeper’s left-hand post to make it 1-1. Cabers keeper Ewan Pilcher had to look smart to save from Liam MacDonald as Kilmallie threatened to go in front. Caberfeidh restored their lead following a corner on the right. Jamie MacKintosh played the ball perfectly across to the on-rushing Robbie Brindle and beat keeper Gillies, sending the ball inside the post. Both teams were thankful for the half-time whistle and the opportunity to get some fluids on board. There were no goals in the second half although Kilmallie tested the Caberfeidh back-five on a number of occasions. Liam MacDonald and Blair Morrison had a great battle whilst home defender Robbie MacFadyen also played well; man-marking Scottish international Kevin Bartlett. Caberfeidh’s Ryan MacKay had the ball in the net but his effort didn’t count as went in via the side-netting. Both keepers – Shane Gillies for Kilmallie and Caberfeidh’s Ewan Pilcher – were excellent and the game was played at a good tempo. Kilmallie pressed hard during the final 10 minutes for the goal that would have given them a priceless point but it didn’t come. The match was played in good spirits with no cards shown.
Kingussie P Kinlochshiel P The match between Kingussie and Kinlochshiel at the Dell was postponed because of the adverse weather conditions. There was a downpour ahead of throw up which meant referee Iain Kennedy was unable to get the match underway.
Mowi National Division Fort William 7 Glenurquhart 1 Fort William clinched the Mowi National Division title, and promotion to shinty’s top flight, in emphatic style after they beat second placed Glenurquhart 7-1 in their 3pm throw up at An Aird. Fort William were still missing the injured Sean Cameron whilst Glen’s John Barr was over his suspension but Conner Golabek sat out the second match of a three game ban. The Fort set their intentions out early on, taking a 6 minute lead. Lachie Shaw found space from a well-worked free-hit and he struck a bouncing ball really well, sending it into the bottom corner of the goal from about 20 yards range. Alexander MacMillan made it 2-0 on 22 minutes. Arran MacPhee was fouled by Lachie Smith on the penalty spot and from the free-hit, the ball was played to MacMillan at the edge of the box and he turned and hit the ball home. Lewis Morrison made it 3-0 just 3 minutes later. The ball was played in to Morrison but he left it for Calum Shepherd who shot goalwards. Stuart MacKintosh made the save but Morrison was quickly in to pounce on the rebound to score. Alexander MacMillan got his second a couple of minutes before the interval. Arran MacPhee’s shot was saved by Stuart MacKintosh but MacMillan produced a great finish from a tight angle. When the ball dropped for Arran MacPhee from a corner on 57 minutes, he hit it low into the net from the edge of the D to make it 5-0. James MacPherson pulled a goal back for the Glen a minute later when he took a John Barr pass with his back to goal before turning and scoring. Victor Smith got the sixth Fort goal on 66 minutes when he turned his man really well before striking the ball perfectly into the bottom corner. Arran MacPhee got his second on 71 minutes to round off the scoring. Jack Fraser shyed the ball and it came in just outside the penalty area where MacPhee hit it on the half-volley and it went bouncing into the net. Glen’s Andrew Corrigan was sent off by referee Des McNulty following a display of dissent late in the match. It was a twelfth straight league win for Fort William and they are worthy champions with second place Glenurquhart the best of the rest, a massive ten points behind.
Glasgow Mid Argyll 4 Oban Celtic 0 Glasgow Mid Argyll kept their promotion push going by beating Oban Celtic 4-0 at Yoker. GMA were missing Garry Luke and Iain Luke whilst Oban Celtic fielded a strong side with only the suspended Craig MacMillan and injured Andy MacDonald missing. The early exchanges were even with Oban Celtic creating the first clear opening when Ross MacMillan turned his marker and attempted a lob goalwards but GMA keeper Robert Dunnings was quickly off his line to keep the ball out. However it was GMA who made the most of their first chance on 9 minutes when Oliver MacRae launched the ball forward and Jamie McFadyen stole in to score with his effort sneaking past the keeper. Play switched to the other end and Robert Dunnings made a brilliant save with his stick to keep out Lennon Campbell’s drive from around the penalty spot. It was GMA who were proving the more clinical in front of goal and they doubled their lead on 13 minutes. The visitors didn’t clear their line properly and Oliver MacRae was again the provider as he played a perfect pass to Jamie McFadyen who blasted the ball on the run past Iain MacFarlane in the Oban Celtic goal. It took another terrific Dunnings save to keep out Lennon Campbell’s high shot on the turn, deflecting the ball by the post. GMA added a third goal on 22 minutes with Oliver MacRae driving the ball low into the bottom corner of the net. It remained 3-0 until a minute before the break but they had a great chance to pull a goal back when Ross MacMillan was brought down after bursting into the D and referee Ross Brown pointed to the spot. MacMillan dusted himself down before taking responsibility from the penalty spot but he sent his effort the wrong side of the post. The host’s 3-0 interval cushion was harsh on Oban Celtic and worse was to follow as GMA added a fourth a minute after the restart when Calum McLay shot, through a crowded goal area from the penalty spot, deflected off Lewis Mcphee’s stick and wrong-footed the keeper with the ball going inside the post. The goal effectively ended the match as a contest although Oban Celtic tried hard with Robert Dunnings twice denying Lennon Campbell with low saves. There were late chances at both ends with Iain MacFarlane saving well from Calum McLay and both Oliver MacRae and Jamie McFadyen having near things for the hosts. Oban Celtic had a couple of late set piece opportunities but the GMA defence were equal to them. It says a lot about Oban Celtic’s efforts throughout that GMA keeper Robert Dunnings was the man of the match. With Fort William taking the first promotion spot as champions, GMA are now just one point behind second placed Glenurquhart with two games in hand. Sixth placed Oban Celtic remain a point behind Beauly with a game fewer played.
Beauly 1 Skye Camanachd 2 Skye Camanachd came from behind to beat Beauly 2-1 at Braeview Park. The game was in doubt on Friday evening after the heavy rain over the previous 48 hours which didn’t allow the hosts the opportunity to cut the grass and this made conditions difficult for both teams. Skye, who hadn’t played for three weeks, had players back for this one and they travelled with a good squad. The Islanders should have gone ahead in the first few seconds when Jordan Murchison got on the end of a cross but just missed the target from close range. The hitting was poor from both teams during the opening 20 minutes and play flowed from end-to-end with lofted hitting from the two defences. Skye keeper Ryan Morrison made a couple of good saves to keep Beauly at bay whilst home goalie MacKay Murray did well to deny Jordan Murchison and James Pringle. Skye were dealt a blow when Jordan Murchison took the ball past his man to go one-on-one with the keeper but a challenge on him by a defender, with no malice intended, ended Murchison’s afternoon as he suffered a bad leg injury which required a trip to Raigmore Hospital and resulted in him leaving on crutches. Beauly looked the more dangerous during the final 20 minutes of the first half and they took the lead on 37 minutes through a brilliant long-range effort from Jack MacDonald which dropped just under the crossbar. Skye, as they have done in recent visits to Braeview Park, now had to come from behind to win it. Iain Nicolson made his return from injury after a seven-week lay-off. Nicolson took over from Iain MacLellan at half-time and it was a different Skye that came out from the restart when their fitness really showed and they dominated for the majority of the half. MacKay Murray made two really good saves from Ross MacKinnon and Ross Gordon but Skye drew level on 51 minutes when Iain Nicolson latched onto a loose ball that was initially saved by the keeper and he and bundled the ball over the line to make it 1-1. Murray made fantastic saves from Ross Gordon and James Pringle but the Islanders got the winner with 10 minutes remaining. It was a well-worked goal which was finished off nicely by Ross Gordon. Skye could and should have scored a couple more goals late in the match but the win keeps their outside chances of promotion alive. Skye duo William MacKinnon and Martin Pringle were stand-outs from start to finish.
Strathdearn Cup – Semi-Finals Fort William 7 Kilmallie 0 The Fort William seconds beat the Kilmallie seconds 7-0 in their noon throw up at An Aird to reach the Strathdearn Cup Final. Greig Kelly gave the Fort a 24 minute lead and Scott Knox added a second on the strike of half-time. Scott Knox got his second on 65 minutes with Greig Kelly doing like-wise just 3 minutes later. Dean Williamson made it 5-0 on 71 minutes with Scott Knox completing his hat-trick on 82 minutes. Donald Walker completed the scoring a minute from time as Fort William proved too strong for their lower league opponents. Des McNulty was the match referee.
Newtonmore 2 Glenurquhart 1 The Newtonmore colts edged out the Glenurquhart colts 2-1 in their semi-final at the Eilan. There was a quick exchange of goals in this noon throw up as Calum Stewart put ‘More ahead on 11 minutes but Daniel MacKintosh levelled a couple of minute later. Neil Stewart got the winner on 59 minutes. Iain MacLeod in the Glen goal made some good saves with ‘More looking the more physically stronger of the two sides. John Wood was the match referee. The Strathdearn Cup Final between the Fort William and Newtonmore second teams is scheduled for Saturday 31 August 2019.
Mowi North Division 1 Skye Camanachd 0 Glengarry 2 League leaders Glengarry stay four points clear at the top of the table after beating the Skye Camanachd reserves 2-0 in their 2.30pm throw up at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. Both teams had absentees with Skye missing Cameron MacKay and ‘Garry without Nick Dalgety. However Shaun Sloggie was available for the visitors following a two-game ban. Glengarry played with the wind in the first half and it took a superb Murphy Henderson save, tipping a Raymond Robertson piledriver over the bar with his caman, to prevent ‘Garry going in front. However Robertson was not to be denied and he gathered a Steven Cameron pass in a central position on 18 minutes before turning and shooting low into the net. Finlay Nicolson, who started at wing centre before being pushed up front, made it 2-0 on 34 minutes. Finlay Fraser flicked the ball inside from the left and Nicolson lifted the ball past the keeper to score. Skye came more into it in the second half and, on 62 minutes, substitute Caitlin MacLean found David MacInnes who played in Daniel Morrison but ‘Garry keeper Gordon MacDonald made a good save with his hand. The visitors were forced to make changes through injury which affected their rhythm and MacDonald saved again from Daniel Morrison as well as from Sam MacPhee twice, either side of using his chest to block Caitlin MacLean’s shot.
Lovat 4 Caberfeidh 2 The Lovat second team scored twice in the final 10 minutes to finally see off the Caberfeidh second team 4-2 at Balgate. Lovat’s James Grieve served a one match suspension. Alan Ross got Cabers off to a great start with a goal in the opening minute but Raymond Rennie equalised just a couple of minutes later. And that’s the way it stayed until the final 20 minutes of the match. Alan Ross put Cabers back in front on 71 minutes only for Raymond Rennie to level for a second time on 75 minutes. Ronan MacMillan, who usually plays in goal, put Lovat ahead for the first time in the clash with 10 minutes remaining and a Finlay Coleman own goal 5 minutes later completed the 4-2 victory. Lovat go second in the division, ahead of Fort William on goal difference, and although they trail Glengarry by four points, they do have a game in hand.
Kinlochshiel 1 Kingussie 3 Kevin Thain grabbed a hat-trick as the Kingussie colts beat the Kinlochshiel colts 3-1 at Reraig. Chris Holleysong was free of suspension for Kingussie. Kevin Thain put the Kings ahead on 22 minutes but Lewis MacVicar equalised just 10 minutes later. Thain completed a first half hat-trick with efforts on 30 and 40 minutes.
Inverness 4 Aberdeen University 0 Inverness were 4-0 victors against Aberdeen University in their noon throw up at the Bught Park. James Cameron made the break-through to give Inverness the lead on 41 minutes and he went on to complete his hat-trick with goals on 65 and 70 minutes. Charlie MacDonald rounded off the 4-0 win just 10 minutes from time.
Mowi South Division 1 Lochside Rovers 4 Ballachulish 0 Lochside Rovers leapfrog Ballachulish to go second in the division after beating the Jubilee Park side 4-0 at Ganavan. George Easton and Andrew Pearson took Lochside and they were without Louis MacFarlane but 14 year old Innes Jackson was given another start and played well. Balla’ had Cain MacPhee free of suspension. Jamie MacGillivray gave Lochside a 23 minute lead when he ran down the left and sent a low shot past the keeper from 20 yards. And it was MacGillivray again on 27 minutes with an effort that deceived the keeper to make it 2-0. Two fine strikes from Lewis Buchanan on 61 and 75 minutes completed the 4-0 victory. The only downside for Lochside was a nasty knock above the eye which is likely to sideline the influential Michael MacQueen.
Aberdour 2 Col Glen 0 League leaders Aberdour beat a determined Col Glen side 2-0 at a sunny Silversands to go ten points clear at the top of the league. Aberdour’s Alec Mitchell was free of his ban. Col Glen started well but David McDougall gave Aberdour a 16 minute lead when he won possession before turning his marker and firing a great shot into the net. McDougall got his and Aberdour’s second on 26 minutes when he found space before sending a low shot through a crowded goal area and into the net. The 2-0 interval margin was harsh on Col Glen but the hosts took a grip of the match in the second half despite suffering a blow on 56 minutes when defender Cammy McCue was sent off by referee Neil MacDonald for retaliation. David MacKenzie dropped back into defence to cover with David McDougall leaving a three-man forward line to play in midfield. However Aberdour were content to see out the final third of the match to take another two points.
Tayforth 3 Inveraray 3 The Inveraray second team came from two goals down to draw 3-3 with Tayforth at the University of Edinburgh playing fiends at Peffermill. The pitch was in great condition considering the rain. Tayforth had a near full squad to choose from with Niall MacPhee starting in defence. Peter MacIntyre missed out for Inveraray and Kieran Kirkhope deputised in goals. Inveraray started brightly and made several good chances but couldn’t make them count. However they did find the net on 15 minutes when determined play from Rhys Williams set up 15 year old Coll Mackay who made no mistake from 10 yards out. Tayforth grew into the game and got their equaliser on 40 minutes when a quick free-hit caught the Inveraray defence out and Niall Arnott fired the ball into the net. Tayforth dominated play from the restart scoring two quick goals through Donnie Forbes, pouncing on a rebound on 52 minutes, and Finlay Stark, from another well-worked free-hit on the hour, and the hosts now led 3-1. Inveraray pushed the experienced John MacKenzie upfront and this made an immediate impact with Coll MacKay scoring his second on 68 minutes after a good lay-off from MacKenzie. Inveraray pulled level just 4 minutes later when centre man David Macalister picked the ball up 30 yards out and sent a low driving shot into the Tayforth goals. Both keepers made great saves as both teams pushed for the winner but they had to settle for a share of the points.

Conor Sartain opened the scoring on 10 minutes and Murray MacKay made it 2-0 on 15 minutes. Conor Sartain got his second on 26 minutes and Robbie Brown made it 4-0 on 31 minutes. Murray MacKay got his second a couple of minutes later to make it 5-0 at the break. Conor Sartain completed his hat-trick a couple of minutes into the second half with Murray MacKay completing his treble on 52 minutes. Toby McFarlane-Barrow made it 8-0 on 56 minutes whilst a double from Kieran McKay on 70 and 82 minutes took Glenorchy into double figures.
