04 November 2014 After the Shinty / Hurling / Camogie international fortnight, there was still some shinty business to attend to on Saturday 1 November.
Orion Group Premiership The Orion Group Premiership was brought to a close after Kinlochshiel and Kyles Athletic agreed to share the points and their outstanding fixture was recorded as a 0-0 draw. Kyles Athletic had earlier been docked two points for failing to fulfil the match at the end of September.
Marine Harvest National Division There were no Marine Harvest National Division fixtures scheduled.
Marine Harvest National Division Play Off Skye Camanachd will be playing Marine Harvest National Division shinty next season after they beat Ballachulish 5-0 in their play-off match at Blairbeg. Both teams were forced to make changes in goal with Iain MacLeod coming in for the injured Jamie Gannon for Skye and Cameron Sutherland replacing the suspended David MacPhee for Balla’. A low strike into the corner of the net from Jordan Murchison gave Skye a 13 minute lead. Skye continued to press and some good stops from Cameron Sutherland kept them out until two goals in two minutes gave the Islanders a 3-0 half time lead. First, Shockie MacLennan made just half a yard of space for himself before turning and sending a glorious 22 yard dive across the keeper into the net on 28 minutes. Then, a minute later, Danny Morrison pounced when Balla’ were unable to clear their lines and he crashed the ball into the top corner of the net to make it 3-0. Will Cowie got a deserved goal on 58 minutes when a superb passing move cut open the Balla’ defence and Cowie slotted the ball home to make it 4-0. Jordan Murchison got his second from the penalty spot when he put the ball high into the net with 61 minutes played. Allan MacKinnon, Iain Murray and Gibbs MacDonald dominated the centre line for Skye and a very good season for the Islanders ends on a high note. Ballachulish could yet join them in shinty’s second tier next season depending on the outcome of the proposed league reconstruction.
