14 August 2022 Kingussie will play Lovat in the Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup Final following the weekend shinty action.
Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup - Semi Final Kingussie 4 Oban Camanachd 1 Kingussie are through to the Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup Final after beating Oban Camanachd 4-1 at a wet at An Aird on Sunday 14 August 2022. Kingussie were without injured pair Fraser Munro and Calum Grant but Louis Munro and Dylan Borthwick both returned to the squad and started on the bench. Lee Bain was handed the full centre role. Other than long-term absentee Garry Lord, Oban Camanachd manager Gareth Evans was in the enviable position of having a full squad to choose from with the exception of Scott McKillop whose wife was due to have their baby in Glasgow. There was constant rain in the lead up to the game and Kingussie created the first chance when James Falconer linked up well with Savio Genini before shooting just over the bar. Kingussie had a great chance to go in front when referee Willie MacDonald awarded them a penalty after just 3 minutes when Roddy Young won possession on the right before running in on goal but he was upended by keeper Cammy Sutherland. Savio Genini struck the spot-hit to the keeper’s right but Cammy Sutherland redeemed himself with a fine save with his club. Savio Genini shot wide before we started to see Oban Camanachd as an attacking force. Kingussie doubled their lead on 21 minutes. Savio Genini sent a low ball in from the left and James Falconer bustled for possession before picking out Roddy Young’s diagonal run across goal and he finished well with a high shot past the keeper’s outstretched hand. Daniel MacVicar raced toward the Kingussie goal but shot wide as Oban Camanachd tried to get back into the game but play continued mainly towards the Oban goal. Kieran MacPherson stretched to deny Daniel MacVicar a shooting chance before Roddy Young ran through on goal but Daniel Sloss blocked his shot. Oban Camanachd’s Craig Easton took a blow to the hand early in the second half before Kingussie put together a great passing move which ended with Ruaridh Anderson shooting low past Cammy Sutherland’s left post. Kingussie were threatening a second goal and it came on 57 minutes when Lee Bain made a wonderful run forward from the halfway line to the edge of the D. With Daniel Sloss in chase, and no challenge ahead of him, Bain cut inside from the left before knocking the ball low past the keeper’s right leg to make it 2-0. Kingussie effectively won the tie on 63 minutes. There seemed little danger when Louis Munro’s long free-hit found Savio Genini wide on the left but the Kingussie skipper turned quickly before sending a back-hand strike high into the net. Daniel Cameron was booked for a late swing at Savio Genini and Genini limped off soon after. Kingussie added a fourth goal on 66 minutes. James Falconer’s ball from the right came to Ruaridh Anderson in a central position with his back to goal and he made space before turning and sending a dipping back-hand shot just under the crossbar to make it 4-0. Kingussie’s James Falconer suffered another cut knee after crashing into the advertising boards and he also had to come off. There was some stoppage time consolation for Oban Camanachd when Daniel Madej scored with a snap-shot from the left, punishing Kingussie for not clearing their lines. Kingussie’s Lee Bain was BBC ALBA pundit Garry Reid’s choice as man of the match. Kingussie will now play Lovat in the Tulloch Homes Camanachd Final at the Dell, Kingussie on Saturday 17 September 2022. This was the first of a double-header as Kingussie and Oban Camanachd meet again on Saturday, this time at Mossfield in the Artemis Macaulay Cup Final. Throw up at is at 2.05pm and Des McNulty is the match referee. The whole match will be broadcast live on BBC ALBA.
Mowi Premiership Kinlochshiel 5 Fort William 2 Kinlochshiel closed the gap on league leaders Kingussie after eventually seeing off Fort William 5-2 at Rèaraig. Calum MacMillan continued in goal for ‘Shiel with Keith MacRae starting on the bench. Fort William travelled with just twelve players and Craig MacDonald was their only substitute. There was a minute’s ahead of throw up following the passing of John MacKinnon and reflection on the awful recent events affecting communities in Skye and Lochalsh. Kinlochshiel also took the opportunity to wish club stalwart John Don MacKenzie and his wide Fay a speedy recovery. When the action got underway, Ali Nixon notched a 12 minute opener for the hosts, running through one-on-one with keeper Paul MacKay before slipping the ball through the goalie’s legs before Jordan Fraser made it 2-0 on 20 minutes. Fort William showed their mettle though as they battled back, punishing lapses in the home defence with goals from Lewis Morrison on 38 minutes and Victor Smith a couple of minutes later to square the contest 2-2 at the turn-around. ‘Shiel took control in the second half though with John MacRae on 54 minutes, Donald Nixon’s stunning shot from distance on 64 minutes and Archie MacRae on 75 minutes giving them a 5-2 win.
Lovat 2 Kyles Athletic 0 Lovat and Kyles Athletic met for the second successive Saturday, this time in a noon throw up at Balgate. Lovat edged last week’s Tulloch Homes semi-final and they are nursing some injuries ahead of next month’s final but both teams were much changed for this one. Drew Howie was also suspended so there was a recall for Calum Macaulay who took the chance to make his mark with goals on 30 and 63 minutes.
Newtonmore 3 Kilmallie 2 Newtonmore only trail Kinlochshiel on goal difference but they had to work hard to beat Kilmallie 3-2 at the Eilan. Fraser MacKintosh returned to the Newtonmore starting line-up although he was withdrawn midway through the first half after being hit on the thumb with Brodie Macbean taking over and playing well. Kilmallie were stronger than in recent weeks and they competed well, fielding Michael Rodger at full centre where he had a really good tussle with Michael Russell but Innes Blackhall was still missing. Kilmallie took a surprise 5 minute lead when Stuart Callison punished a defensive lapse but Max Campbell turned the match Newtonmore’s way with two first half goals. First, on 19 minutes, a shot on goal was deflected into the net by Campbell and then, on 41 minutes, Campbell struck a dropping ball home to make it 2-1. Referee Des McNulty awarded ‘More a penalty 4 minutes into the second half and although Iain Robinson’s spot-hit crashed back off the crossbar, Conor Jones was onto the rebound in a flash and he scored what proved to be a vital third goal. Calum MacDougall cut the deficit with another good finish on 69 minutes but ‘More comfortably held their lead to take both points.
Caberfeidh 4 Glasgow Mid Argyll 2 Caberfeidh pulled away from the relegation zone as they won for a third successive match, this time coming from behind to beat Glasgow Mid Argyll 4-2 at Castle Leod. GMA started well and former Kingussie player Hamish Anderson gave them a second minute lead. Stewart Grant battled for possession in midfield and when it was played long into the home defence, the ball broke to Anderson in a central position and he fired into the net on his left side. Cabers equalised on 22 minutes when a poor Jonathon Oates goal-hit only went as far as Craig Morrison and when his ball from the left deflected to Ally MacLennan, he hammered home to the keeper’s right to make it 1-1. The home side went in front when Jamie MacKintosh’s hit-in from the right was flicked into the goal area by Ally MacLennan. Kyle Grant chested the ball down and Craig Morrison tried to shoot and the ball fell to Blair Morrison on the left and he finished well on his left side, across the keeper, to make it 2-1 with half an hour played. However GMA drew level a minute after the hour. Iain McCall did well to keep out Jamie McFadyen’s strike from wide on the right which was dropping under his crossbar before he stretched out his left foot to save Craig Anderson’s shot on the turn. Calum McLay went after the rebound to the right of the D and he was pushed in the back by Finlay Coleman so referee John Angus Gillies pointed to the penalty spot. Craig Anderson did his usual efficient job, blasting the ball thigh-high to the keeper’s right. The contest remained in the balance until 10 minutes from time when Ally MacLennan put Caberfeidh back in front. Substitute Gavin Mclauchlan’s corner from the left wasn’t cleared and GMA keeper Jonathon Oates saved from Craig Morrison but tried to allow the ball to run out of play and Craig Morrison ran across to touch it back inside to give Ally MacLennan the simplest chance to tap into the empty net to make it 3-2. Craig Morrison finally saw off GMA just 4 minutes later when he shot home on his left side following substitute Colin MacLennan’s corner from the right. Caberfeidh’s Jamie MacKintosh was sent off after chopping down GMA’s Calum McLay, catching him around the knee, as he burst through on goal late in the game. Both teams created several chances but Caberfeidh’s lethal finishing made the difference and they now go sixth in the table, seven points clear of the relegation zone.

Brodie Macbean was played in by Jamie Robinson and although his shot was saved by Stuart Disher, Struan Ross turned the ball low into the net when the visitors failed to clear the rebound. Craig MacIsaac added a second just a minute later, firing low into the net on his backhand from the left after a good run by Brodie Macbean. Struan Ross got his second on 23 minutes when he took Jamie Robinson’s pass from the right and held off two defenders before scoring from the right of the D. When Jamie Robinson made it 4-0 on 40 minutes, the hosts took a healthy lead into the break. Robinson scored from close in after Struan Ross turned provider.
