07 September 2014 All five Skye Camanachd teams were in action this week. The Skye Camanachd first team beat the Kingussie reserves 4-0 in Marine Harvest North Division 1 on Saturday 6 September. Shockie MacLennan got Skye off the best possible start when he finished off a good move to make it 1-0 after just 3 minutes. Danny Morrison made it 2-0 on 17 minutes and when substitute Jordan Murchison added a third on the stroke of half time, Skye were in control. Jordan Murchison got his second and Skye’s fourth when he beat Kingussie stand-in keeper Kevin Thain 20 minutes from time. Skye were presented with the Marine Harvest North Division 1 trophy by John Angus Gillies from sponsors Marine Harvest after the match. The Skye Camanachd second team avoided relegation to Marine Harvest North Division 3 when they beat Lochaber 7-0 at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 6 September 2014. Skye needed a victory to avoid relegation and they fielded a strong side. Aonghas MacDonald put Skye ahead on 4 minutes when he knocked a rebound down into the net after Lochaber stand-in goalie Michael Delany had made a save. Jordan Murchison made it 2-0 on 24 minutes and that was the way it stayed until the break. Angie MacDonald added a third 5 minutes into the second half and Aonghas MacDonald got his second a minute later to make it 4-0. Will Cowie finished on 68 minutes to make it 5-0 and a late double from Jordan Murchison on 87 and 88 minutes completed his hat-trick to make it 7-0. The Skye Camanachd Ladies put up a terrific fight before going down 3-2 to Glasgow Mid Argyll Ladies in the Valerie Fraser Cup Final at Strachurmore on Saturday 6 September 2014. GMA captain Alana McGarrie gave her side the lead bur Skye’s Caitlin MacLean levelled. A double from Joan Nicolson put GMA 3-1 to the goal and although Lorna MacRae reduced the deficit, GMA held on to lift the trophy. Skye’s Sarah Corrigall, who started off in goal but then moved outfield, was named player of the match. Skye Camanachd U17 beat Glenurquhart U17 4-0 at Blairbeg in the London Shield on Tuesday 2 September 2014. All the goals came in the first half with John Gillies putting Skye ahead after 8 minutes. Ruairidh MacLeod struck twice on 17 and 23 minutes to make it 3-0 and Will Cowie got the fourth on 37 minutes. Skye Camanachd U14 drew 1-1 with Kingussie U14 in their Harvest North Division 1 meeting at the Dell on Friday 5 September 2014. Kingussie went ahead through Ruaridh after 14 minutes but a Ryan Macaskill goal on 20 minutes earned Skye a point. |
