23 March 2013 The wintery weather took its toll on the shinty fixtures for Saturday 23 March 2013.
Orion Group Premiership Lovat 1 Kinlochshiel 1 Lovat and Kinlochshiel shared the points following a 1-1 draw at Balgate. Callum Cruden and Lorne MacKay returned from suspension for Allan MacRae’s Lovat side. Lewis Tawse was also back in the team and he fired Lovat ahead after 24 minutes. However Keith MacRae, who scored ‘Shiel’s winner against Glenurquhart last weekend, was back on target and he netted 6 minutes into the second half to earn the visitors a share of the points.
Fort William 2 Oban Camanachd 1 A last minute Gary Innes penalty gave Fort William a 2-1 win over Oban Camanachd at An Aird. Oban Camanachd had enjoyed a pre-season friendly win against the Fort and they took the lead when Iain MacMillan fired home after 9 minutes. Gary Innes equalised just 3 minutes into the second half and when referee Graham Cameron pointed to the spot at the death, Innes stepped up to slam the ball into the net.
Lochaber 0 Glenurquhart 0 The bottom two sides in the league, Lochaber and Glenurquhart, shared the points following a goalless draw at Spean Bridge.
Kyles Athletic P Newtonmore P Shinty’s match of the day between Kyles Athletic and Newtonmore at Tighnabruaich fell foul of the wintery weather.
Kingussie P Inveraray P The match between Kingussie and Inveraray was switched to Kincraig as the Dell was covered in snow. However travel conditions were such that this game couldn’t go ahead either.
Marine Harvest North Division 1 Kilmallie 6 Inverness 0 Kilmallie made it four wins out of four with a 6-0 triumph over Inverness at the Canal Parks. With manager Duncan Kelly still on holiday, Donald Lamont took charge of the side once again. Grant MacKenzie followed up last week’s double against Skye with goals on 4 and 29 minutes. Mark MacPherson made it 3-0 on 31 minutes whilst Michael Rodger scored on 70 and 75 minutes. Seb MacMillan shot home 8 minutes from time to seal a 6-0 victory for the league leaders.
Skye Camanachd 3 Caberfeidh 1 Skye Camanachd showed no ill-effects from last week’s defeat at Kilmallie as they beat Caberfeidh 3-1 at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. A Neil MacVicar hat-trick on 12, 42 and 70 minutes put the Islanders 3-0 ahead before Ally MacLennan pulled a goal back on 79 minutes. It took an outstanding save from Skye keeper Michael Nicolson to prevent an uncomfortable finish for the home side whilst Cabers also missed a great scoring chance near the end.
Beauly 2 Strathglass 1 Beauly remain second after their 2-1 win over Strathglass in their 3pm throw up at Braeview Park. Marc MacLachlan continued his impressive start to the season with goals on 65 and 78 minutes against his father Steve MacLachlan in the Strath goal. MacLachlan was earmarked as one of the games top youngsters a couple of years ago and he has returned to form this term after missing a lot of last season through work commitments. His strikes cancelled out Robbie Stokes 32 minutes opener. This was a return to their former club for Strathglass manager Callum Duff and his assistant Innes Simpson.
Marine Harvest South Division 1 Oban Celtic 1 Glasgow Mid Argyll 1 League leaders Glasgow Mid Argyll returned from Oban with just a point following a 1-1 draw with Oban Celtic. Fulton Ross put GMA ahead on 23 minutes but Allan MacInnes levelled on 43 minutes to earn Oban Celtic a good point.
Lochside Rovers 3 Glenorchy 1 Glenorchy stay second following a 3-1 defeat to Lochside Rovers in Oban. Lochside’s Ewan MacCorquodale served the second game of a two match ban. Kieran MacKay put the visitors ahead 4 minutes before the interval and they took their advantage into the break. The Lochside goals came late but Scotland U17 forward Malcolm Clark bagged a brace on 75 and 81 minutes with Brian MacCallum adding a third a couple of minutes later, to give the home side a 3-1 victory.
Strachur P Bute P The pitch at Dalmally failed a Saturday morning pitch inspection so the match between Strachur and Bute was postponed.
Taynuilt P Kilmory P Travel difficulties lead to the postponement of the game between Taynuilt and Kilmory.
Marine Harvest North Division 2 Glenurquhart 0 Skye Camanachd 0 Neither Glenurquhart nor Skye Camanachd were able to find the back of the net at Blairbeg. Skye lost midfielder Stewart Grant and defender Magnus Burd through injury during the game so they will be pleased to have taken a point.
Kinlochshiel 3 Lovat 6 Kinlochshiel and Lovat reserve sides served up a nine goal thriller at Kirkton. Fraser Gallacher bagged a brace for Lovat with Kevin MacKinnon and a Rory Campbell hat-trick making up their six goal tally. Duncan MacRae twice and Conall Fraser counted for Kinlochshiel.
Beauly 3 Kingussie 1 Beauly beat Kingussie 3-1 in their noon throw up at Braeview Park. Beauly’s teenage hit-man Callum Morrison hit a double on 20 and 24 minutes, either side of 21 minute William Ferguson strike to put the home side 3-0 in front. Savio Genini pulled a goal back on 51 minutes and referee Al Hunter was a busy man, red carding Beauly pair Ryan MacKay and William Ferguson along with Kingussie’s Savio Genini.
Newtonmore P Glengarry P The match between Newtonmore and Glengarry did not go ahead as both the Eilan and Craigard were unplayable.
Aberdeen University P Fort William P Aberdeen University’s match with Fort William in the Granite City was postponed because of an unplayable field.
Marine Harvest South Division 2 Inveraray 2 Tayforth 1 Inveraray toppled Tayforth by the narrowest of margins at the Winterton. Calum Campbell put Tayforth ahead on 12 minutes only for Fraser Watt to level just 60 seconds later. Ross Anderson scored what proved to be the winner a minute before the break.
Aberdour P Ballachulish P Travel difficulties led to the postponement of top of the table Ballachulish’s trip to play Aberdour in Fife.
Col Glen P Kyles Athletic P An unplayable field meant the derby between Col Glen and Kyles Athletic was postponed.
Bute P Glasgow Mid Argyll P The match between Bute and Glasgow Mid Argyll was postponed as the Meadows was deemed unplayable.
Marine Harvest North Division 3 Lochbroom 3 Kilmallie 4 Kilmallie’s good start to the season continued as the y beat Lochbroom by the odd goal in seven in Ullapool. Neil Fraser scored twice for the home side with Paddy Wilson getting the other. However a Bryan MacKay double and strikes from Ross MacKenzie and Ewan Moffat gave Kilmallie the points.
Lochaber 4 Lochcarron 5 Lochaber went down 5-4 to Lochcarron in a thrilling match at Spean Bridge. A hat-trick from Ross Brown and a Gregor Cushnie double gave Lochcarron their first league win. Keith Neville, Finlay Nicolson, Barry MacDonald and Duncan MacKinnon, who returned from injury, counted for Lochaber.
Inverness 1 Boleskine 4 Boleskine came out on top in their derby clash against Inverness at the Bught Park. Craig Pirrie put Boleskine ahead on 15 wines with Raymond Robertson adding a second on 23 minutes. Ewan Fraser made it 3-0 on the half hour mark and the visitors took this lead into the break. Steve Munro replied for Inverness on the hour only for Donnie Forbes to restore Boleskine’s three goal cushion to make it 4-1 just 15 minutes from time.
Caberfeidh 5 Strathglass 1 Caberfeidh beat Strathglass 5-1 at Castle Leod. Callum MacCulloch and doubles from Scott MacLennan and Trevor Innes counted for Cabers whilst veteran Garry Reid notched a consolation goal for Strathglass.
Strathspey Camanachd P Lewis Camanachd P The 1.30pm throw up between Strathspey and Lewis at Freuchie Park was postponed because of the cancellation of the ferry service from the Western Isles. |
