Co-operative MacTavish Cup - Quarter Final Newtonmore 2 Kingussie 0 Holders Newtonmore are through to the Co-operative MacTavish Cup last four with a 2-0 derby win over Kingussie at the Eilan. The home side went into the game with several injury concerns and Rory Kennedy and Danny MacRae were noticeable absentees. Keeper Michael Ritchie was missing so reserve keeper John D MacLeod took over on goal for his first senior Badenoch derby. Kingussie were along usual lines with Ronald Ross yet to make his first appearance for the senior team. Both teams lost players early in the game through injury with Kingussie’s Lee Bain having to come off after just 20 minutes with the recurrence of a hamstring problem and Newtonmore’s Steven MacDonald following soon after. The goals came early in the game with Newtonmore youngster Callum Stewart on target on 3 and 37 minutes. A couple of fine second half saves from Kingussie keeper Craig Dawson prevented Newtonmore increasing their lead.
Glenurquhart 3 Kinlochshiel 2 Glenurquhart eventually ran out 3-2 winners against Kinlochshiel at Blairbeg. An early double from Fraser Heath after 11 and 16 minutes gave the home side the advantage which they took into the break. Kinlochshiel’s Finlay MacRae started on the bench as he was hampered by a hamstring injury. However manager Johnston Gill was forced to introduce MacRae to snuff out the threat posed by Fraser Heath. ‘Shiel’s Oliver MacRae pulled a goal back after 53 minutes only for Neale Reid to restore the Glen’s tow goal cushion just 3 minutes later.
