Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup - First Round Caberfeidh 0 Oban Celtic 0 Caberfeidh and Oban Celtic will have to do it all over again after the sides drew 0-0 in their 1pm throw up at Castle Leod. Their replay will take place next weekend but Caberfeidh’s Scott MacLean and Oban Celtic’s Scott Burnett will miss out after being red carded by referee Graham Cameron.
Co-operative MacTavish Cup - Semi Finals Newtonmore 1 Glenurquhart 2 Holders Newtonmore are out of the Co-operative MacTavish Cup following a 2-1 semi-final defeat to Glenurquhart in their 3pm throw up at the Eilan. After a goalless first half, the opening goal came on the hour mark when the ball dropped to David Smart in a central position, around 20 yards from goal, and he fired the ball hard and low past Michael Ritchie to make it 1-0. The Glen were on top when Newtonmore equalised on 72 minutes as the ball was played wide to Glen Mackintosh who slipped it past Stuart Mackintosh to make it 1-1. The visitors were dealt a blow when Neale Reid had to come off with a tight calf but his replacement, Liam Girvan, made a real difference when he came on. Girvan was immediately involved in the action and on 77 minutes, he fought very hard to retain possession wide on the Glen left before releasing the ball down the line to David Smart who slipped it across field to the on-rushing Ewan Brady who beat team-mate Fraser Heath to the ball before flicking it past Ritchie for the winner. This was an end to end tie but the Glen did enough to edge it and the Artemis Macaulay Cup holders, for whom John Barr and Andrew Corrigan were excellent in defence, deserve their place in the final. Colin MacDonald was the match referee.
Kilmallie 1 Lovat 2 Lovat will face Glenurquhart in the 2013 Co-operative MacTavish Cup Final following their 2-1 win over Kilmallie in their 3pm throw up at the Canal Parks. Kilmallie’s Martin Stewart was free of suspension. This was a thoroughly entertaining tie in wet conditions and Lovat got their noses in front on 4 minutes through Lorne MacKay. Owen Ferguson made it 2-0 a minute before the break but Kilmallie were never out of the tie. Liam Cameron reduced the deficit 5 minutes from time but Lovat held on to reach the final. Innes Wood was the match referee.
AJG Parcels Celtic Society Cup - Semi Finals Oban Camanachd 0 Inveraray 1 Inveraray have twenty one Glasgow Celtic Society Cup titles to their name and they are the recent form team as 13 of those victories have come in the last 18 years. However they had to fight all the way to edge out Oban Camanachd at Mossfield. The home side included veteran Fraser Inglis in their line-up. The regulation 90 minutes failed to provide a goal and it took a Euan McMurdo strike 8 minutes from the end of extra-time to put Inveraray through. Deek Cameron was the match referee.
Glasgow Mid Argyll 0 Kyles Athletic 4 Roddy MacDonald and Dunkie Kerr both hit doubles as Kyles Athletic go through to the AJG Parcels Glasgow Celtic Society Cup Final with a 4-0 win over Glasgow Mid Argyll at Yoker. Roddy MacDonald scored the only goal of the first half after 35 minutes and he made it 2-0 just 10 minutes into the second period. A Dunkie Kerr double on 62 and 84 minutes sealed the 4-0 win as Kyles will now look to win the famous trophy for the 30th time. David Mitchell was the match referee.
Bullough Cup – First Round Oban Celtic 6 Aberdour 2 The Oban Celtic and Aberdour reserve sides met in Oban with the home side running out 6-2 winners. Calum Fox was the top marksman for the Oban side with four goals whilst David Martin (Jnr) chipped in with a double. Chris Bowerman got both Aberdour goals.
Bute 1 Col Glen 1 (Col Glen won 2-1 on pens) It took a penalty shoot-out to separate Bute and Col Glen at the Meadows. Garry Craig for the home side and Jamie Sutton for the visitors had left the tie all-square after the regulation 90 minutes and the extra-time period. Col Glen eventually ran out 2-1 winners after referee Duncan Freshwater took the tie to penalties. It was 1-1 on penalties when Bute veteran Hector Whitelaw missed from the spot. Up stepped 14 year old Andrew MacVicar with Col Glen’s final penalty and he blasted the ball into the top corner of the net to put his side through to the next round.
Inveraray 10 Glasgow Mid Argyll 0 Inveraray were convincing winners against a young Glasgow Mid Argyll side at the Winterton. Neil Shaw and young Fraser Watt each got hat tricks, Russell McKinlay bagged a brace whilst Ross Anderson and Andrew Sinclair got the others.
Tayforth 11 English Shinty Association 1 Tayforth ran out 11-1 winners over the English Shinty Association. Steve Thomson, an Alex MacIntyre double, Andy Scott, two from Dave Arnott, a Jamie MacDonald hat-trick and a Lee Fleming strike all counted for Tayforth. Joe Dunton grabbed a consolation for the English when he scored from the penalty spot.
Ardnamurchan v Lochside Rovers W/O Lochside Rovers were given a walk-over as Ardnamurchan were unable to raise a team for their tie.
Strathdearn Cup - Second Round Lovat 5 Caberfeidh 0 Lovat were the first team through to the quarter finals when they beat Caberfeidh 5-0 in their 7pm throw up on Wednesday 15 May 2013. Rory Campbell gave Lovat the lead in the opening minute. Graeme MacMillan made it 2-0 on 34 minutes and Lovat took this advantage into the break. Rory Campbell got his second goal of the evening on 74 minutes and a James White effort on the full time whistle made it 5-0.
Newtonmore 7 Boleskine 2 Newtonmore were too strong for Boleskine, running out 7-2 winners in their noon throw up at the Eilan. Boleskine were without the services of Michael Pirrie who was banned for a points accumulation. Martin Hall got the opening goal for ‘More after 5 minutes and Mark MacDonald added a double on 15 and 25 minutes. Calum Stewart made it 4-0 on the stroke of half time which ended the tie as a contest. Ewan Fraser pulled a goal back for Boleskine 10 minutes into the second half but Calum Stewart got his second on 70 minutes before Mark MacDonald completed his hat-trick 3 minutes later. Calum Stewart also got a hat-trick goal on 75 minutes and although Ewan Fraser got his and Boleskine’s second a minute from time, it is Newtonmore who are through to the last eight.
Aberdeen University 3 Skye Camanachd 4 (after extra time) Skye Camanachd beat Aberdeen University 4-3 after extra time in their tie at Balgownie. John Sweeney put Aberdeen ahead before a terrific strike from Ally “Cleodi” MacLeod made it 1-1. Things didn’t look good for Skye when John Sweeney got his second and Jamie Dawson made it 3-1. However the Islanders fought back and goals from Alan Palmer and Iain MacLellan made it 3-3 and took the match to an extra time period. A trademark Angie MacDonald strike won the tie for Skye and sets up at quarter final tie at home to Newtonmore.
Glenurquhart 4 Kingussie 2 Glenurquhart are through to the next round after beating Kingussie 4-2 in their noon throw up at Blairbeg. Jack Hosie on the half hour and Euan Lloyd on 42 minutes put the Glen two goals to the good at the break. James MacPherson made it 3-0 from the penalty spot on 54 minutes and Duncan Fraser made added a fourth on 75 minutes. A late double from Chris Hollysong on 82 and 86 minutes was some consolation for Kingussie.
Lochbroom 2 Beauly 6 Strathdearn Cup holders Beauly are safely through to the next round after they beat Lochbroom 6-2 in Ullapool. Beauly bossed the first half and led 6-0 at the break thanks to a hat-trick from James Cameron, two from Martin Davidson and a Ryan Tillman goal. However it is to Lochbroom’s credit that they came out battling in the second half and a James Rolfe double reduced Beauly’s winning margin to 6-2.
Glengarry 10 Inverness 0 Glengarry were too strong for Inverness as they hit double figures at Craigard. Scott Johnstone’s red card against Beauly last week meant he missed out for Glengarry whilst Michael Brady was also banned for a points accumulation. Daniel MacLennan was available but he will miss Glengarry’s next match which is the Aberdein Sutherland Cup tie at Lochcarron; again because of a points accumulation. It was Daniel MacLennan who got the opener after 9 minutes and Scott MacDonald made it 2-0 on 35 minutes. Steven Cameron added a third 3 minutes before the break and Shaun Sloggie made it 4-0 a minute into the second half and he got his second on 52 minutes to make it 5-0. Scott MacDonald got his second 5 minutes later and Steven Simpson made it 7-0 on 68 minutes. Daniel MacLennan got his second a couple of minutes later and a Martin Cameron double on 75 and 86 minutes completed the 10-0 win.
Strathglass 0 Kinlochshiel 3 Kinlochshiel beat Strathglass 3-0 in their noon throw up at Cannich. All the goals came in the first half with Steven Fraser giving ‘Shiel an early lead after 10 minutes. Fort William P Lochcarron P The tie between Fort William and Lochcarron at an Aird was postponed following the sad passing this week of former Fort William player Drew Ferguson.
Orion Group Premiership Lochaber 2 Kinlochshiel 3 Kinlochshiel came away with the points following a 3-2 win over Lochaber in what was an entertaining match at Spean Bridge. The home side fielded a strong line-up with Scott Paterson their only notable absentee. Kinlochshiel were minus Graham Morrison and Fraser MacVicar. ‘Shiel made the better start to the game and they had on-form Gordie MacDonald to thank for a 2-0 interval lead. MacDonald, who grabbed a hat-trick against Kingussie the previous weekend, scored the opener from the edge of the D and he then slammed home a Duncan “Ach” MacRae cross on 34 minutes to make it 2-0. Lochaber manager Callum Cameron must have read the riot-act to his team at the interval as they looked a different side at the start of the second period. Cameron also made a tactical switch, withdrawing defender Donald MacRae who had a hamstring problem and taking Neil MacDonald back to his more familiar buckshee back position with Stuart Callison coming on in attack. MacDonald steadied the defence and Callison livened up the attack and it was no surprise when a blistering 30 yard drive from Shaun Nicolson on 49 minutes reduced the deficit. Indeed when John MacRae restored Lochaber’s advantage on 66 minutes, it was against the run of play. However MacRae deserves great credit for the goal which he created himself by not allowing Lachlan Campbell to clear the ball from defence before drilling the ball low into the net to make it 3-1. John MacRae passed up a good chance to extend ‘Shiel’s advantage when he failed to get any power in his shot after referee John MacLeod had played advantage after Keith MacRae was impeded earlier in the move. ‘Shiel keeper Scott Kennedy was penalised a minute from time as the home side were awarded a penalty. Ben Delaney blasted the spot-hit into the top corner of the net. However the visitors, for whom defender John Don MacKenzie was excellent, saw out the remainder to the game to take the points. Kinlochshiel now join Kyles Athletic, Kingussie and Glenurquhart on eight points.

However John Martin-Phillips levelled after 5 minutes and a 19 minute Martin Lightbody effort made it 2-1.
