20 June 2013 Lovat grabbed the headlines, winning the Co-operative MacTavish Cup in a penalty shoot-out win over Glenurquhart on Saturday 15 June 2013.

Artemis Macaulay Cup – Quarter Finals Oban Celtic 1 Inveraray 6 Inveraray reached the semi finals of the Artemis Macaulay Cup with a 6-1 win over Oban Celtic in their noon throw up at Mossfield. Inveraray were without suspended full back Alan MacDonald whilst Stuart Robertson was also unavailable but forward Euan McMurdo returned to the side. Lewis MacNicol gave Inveraray a 10 minute lead but Alan Mackie levelled for Oban Celtic on 21 minutes. Chris Crawford put Inveraray back in front on 26 minutes. Lewis MacNicol made it 3-1 on the half hour and Neil Campbell put Inveraray into a comfortable 4-1 lead with a strike 3 minutes before the break. A second half double from Peter McIntyre on 48 and 81 minutes rounded off a 6-1 win. Daniel MacRae was the match referee.
Oban Camanachd 3 Kyles Athletic 4 It took extra-time for Kyles Athletic to edge out Oban Camanachd by the odd goal in seven in their 3pm throw up at Mossfield and they will now face south rivals Inveraray in the Artemis Macaulay Cup semi finals. Dunkie Kerr put Kyles ahead after 12 minutes only for Lewis Cameron to level a couple of minutes later. Roddy MacDonald gave Kyles the advantage again on 18 minutes and they stayed in front until 71 minutes when Gavin Stobbart made it 2-2. A Roberto Zavaroni strike on 83 minutes looked to have won the tie for the Tighnabruaich men but Andrew MacCuish drew Oban Camanachd, for whom full back Craig MacMillan was outstanding, level for the third time just before the full time whistle. Roddy MacDonald scored what proved to be the winner 10 minutes into the extra-time period. Graham Cameron was the match referee and he red carded Oban Camanachd’s Garry Lord and Robbie MacLeod from Kyles Athletic following a tussle.
Balliemore Cup – Quarter Final Skye Camanachd 1 Kilmallie 5 Kilmallie eased into the last four of the Balliemore Cup win a comfortable 5-1 win over Skye Camanachd in their 2pm throw up at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. Bullough Cup – Quarter Finals Ballachulish 9 Oban Celtic 0 Ballachulish were too strong for the Oban Celtic reserve side as they ran out 9-0 winners in their 3pm throw up at Jubilee Park. Donald Wilson on 9 minutes and Lorne Brown 5 minutes later gave Balla’ an early lead. However the Oban side held their opponents at 2-0 until a minute before half time when Scott Henderson made it 3-0. Ballachulish’s experience showed in the second half though and John MacDonald found the back of the net 3 minutes into the second half. The 2008 Marine Harvest Player of the Year made it 5-0 on 51 minutes whilst Donald Wilson got his second on 58 minutes. Former Fort William player Michael Slezas made in 7-0 on 63 minutes with Lorne Brown getting his second 5 minutes from time. Scott Henderson got his second goal of the afternoon to round off a 9-0 victory. Had it not been for some fine saves from George MacKenzie in the Oban goal, the winning margin could have been greater.
Tayforth 1 Lochside Rovers 5 Lochside Rovers are through to the last four of the Bullough Cup with a 5-1 win at Tayforth in their noon meeting. Brian MacCallum scored twice, with Sean Morgan, Diarmid MacMillan and Scott Dempster getting the others. Brendan Duggan was on target for Tayforth.
The SCOTS 1 Col Glen 1 (The SCOTS won on penalties) It took penalty-hits to separate The SCOTS and Col Glen in their 3pm throw up. After a goalless 90 minutes, Arran Devine put the forces side ahead a minute into extra time. However Donnie MacDermid levelled on 99 minutes before The SCOTS won through on penalties.
Kyles Athletic W/O v Inveraray Kyles Athletic were given a walk-over into the last four when Inveraray were unable to field a team for their 2pm throw up at Tighnabruaich.
Orion Group Premiership Lochaber 0 Newtonmore 4 The clash between Lochaber and Newtonmore at Spean Bridge was brought forward to Friday 14 June 2013, with a 7pm throw up. Newtonmore extended their lead at the top of the table to three points with a 4-0 win. Danny MacRae scored the only goal of the first half after just 4 minutes. Danny MacRae got his second 3 minutes into the second half and a double from Fraser MacKintosh on 65 and 82 minutes clinched a 4-0 win.
Kingussie 2 Kinlochshiel 1 Kingussie go fourth in the table following their 2-1 win over fifth placed Kinlochshiel in their 2pm throw up at the Dell. The Kings were without manager co-manager Russell Jones who was working so Stevie Borthwick took charge of the side. Borthwick was without the services of Ronald Ross and Lee Bain whilst Louis Munro will be abroad for the next two months. Kinlochshiel manager Johnston Gill was also unavailable so Duncan MacLeod looked after the side. As expected, injury ruled out Gordie MacDonald whilst Duncan “Ach” MacRae was only fit enough for a place on the bench. There was a starting place for ‘Shiel’s Colin MacDiarmid. Graham Kennedy made his first appearance of the season in goal as his brother Scott Kennedy was unavailable. Rory MacGregor capitalised on a defensive error to put the home side in front on 8 minutes whilst a blistering Thomas Borthwick shot made it 2-0 on 17 minutes. ‘Shiel tried to work their way back into the game and Craig Dawson saved well from Oliver MacRae on the half hour mark. ‘Shiel pulled a goal back 3 minutes from the break when John MacRae cut in from the right to score. Both keepers made saves in the second half and the visitors pushed full back Paul MacRae into attack in the latter stages of the game but it was Kingussie who took the points. The sides meet at the beginning of July at the same venue in the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup quarter finals.
Marine Harvest North Division 1 Beauly 3 Caberfeidh 2 Beauly took advantage of Kilmallie’s involvement in the Balliemore Cup to go two points clear at the top of Marine Harvest North Division 1 following their 3-2 win over Caberfeidh in their 1pm throw up at Braeview Park. However Beauly left it late and trailed 2-1 with just 5 minutes remaining. Ross Forbes put Beauly ahead after 15 minutes with Callum MacCulloch making it 1-1 on the half hour mark. Ally MacLennan put the visitors in front on 65 minutes but they had Brian MacDonald sent off by referee John MacLeod. Marc MacLachlan made it 2-2 just 5 minutes from time and James Cameron, who signed from Inverness earlier in the season, gave Beauly the two points they desperately wanted 60 seconds later. Beauly lead second place Kilmallie by two points although the Canal Parks side have a game in hand.
Marine Harvest South Division 1 Aberdour 1 Glenorchy 5 Glenorchy go top of Marine Harvest North Division1 following their 5-1 win over Aberdour in their 2pm throw up at Silver Sands. Alex MacPherson struck on 13 and 27 minutes to put the visitors 2-0 in front. Grant MacPherson made it 3-0 on 31 minutes and Kieran Gallagher added a fourth just 4 minutes later. When Alex MacPherson completed his hat-trick on 39 minutes, Glenorchy were out of sight. Darren Coyle pulled a goal back for the home side 5 minutes from time and Aberdour drop to fourth in the table.
Glasgow Mid Argyll 7 Taynuilt 1 Glasgow Mid Argyll were too strong for an under-strength Taynuilt and they eventually ran out 7-1 winners in their 3pm throw up at Yoker. Taynuilt’s absentees included the suspended Marc Beaton. Craig Anderson was GMA’s top marksman with four goals. Euan Forsyth bagged a double whilst Garry Luke got the other. Stuart Scott scored a consolation goal for Taynuilt. GMA may only be fifth in the table but they have played fewer games than all the teams above them and they are unbeaten with four wins from their six games played.
Kilmory 2 Bute 4 Bute returned from Kilmory with both points thanks to a 4-2 win in their 2pm throw up. The Islanders were without Leighton Reid and Robert Ferguson for the game. Ewan Carmichael and Andrew Cunningham counted for the home side. However Bute’s Robert Walker continued his good form and he helped himself to a hat-trick with Gordon MacMillan getting the other. Bute go second in the table.
Marine Harvest North Division 2 Kingussie 2 Beauly 2 Two second half goals in two minutes earned Kingussie a point in their match against Beauly on Friday 14 June 2013. Beauly went in front on 25 minutes when Ryan Tillman set up Calum Morrison to score. David Neilson put the visitors 2-0 up 10 minutes later with Ryan Tillman again the provider and Beauly took this lead into the break. Beauly’s Ryan MacKay was red-carded by referee Euan Pearson and this proved costly as goals from youngster Fachie Grant on 72 minutes and veteran Kevin Thain a minute later earned the Kings a point.
Kinlochshiel 5 Glengarry 2 Kinlochshiel had a 5-2 derby victory over Glengarry in their 2pm throw up at Kirkton. The home side were without keeper Iain Cameron so Hugh MacRae deputised in between the sticks. Early goals from Jordan Fraser and Alasdair Nixon put ‘Shiel 2-0 to the good. Steven Cameron pulled a goal back for the visitors before the interval. Jordan Fraser and Alasdair Nixon both scored their second goals of the afternoon to make it 4-1 before Aedan Macrae added a fifth. Daniel MacLennan’s late strike for Glengarry was not enough and Kinlochshiel go above Aberdeen University to go eight in the table and ease their relegation fears.
Aberdeen University P Skye Camanachd P The match between Aberdeen University and Skye Camanachd was postponed because of an unplayable pitch at Balgownie.
Marine Harvest South Division 2 Glasgow Mid Argyll 7 Aberdour 1 The Glasgow Mid Argyll second team beat the Aberdour reserves 7-1 in their noon throw up at Yoker. Paul Creighton and Garry Luke each got doubles with Lewis Clark, Scott Anderson and Calum McLay also finding the back of the net. Lewis MacNicol countered for Aberdour.
Marine Harvest North Division 3 Lochaber 10 Lochbroom 0 Lochaber beat Lochbroom 10-0 in their 2pm throw up at Spean Bridge. Duncan MacKinnon put Lochaber ahead after 6 minutes and Kevin Ferguson made it 2-0 on 20 minutes. Connor Sweeney hit a double on 30 and 47 minutes to make it 4-0. The remainder of the second half was one-way traffic and Kevin Ferguson took his tally to four goals with strikes on 56, 76 and 88 minutes. Ryan Johnstone hit a double on 58 and 68 minutes and Findlay MacDonald took the score to double figures on the stroke of full time.
Lewis Camanachd 0 Lochcarron 3 Three goals in 6 minutes gave Lochcarron a 3-0 win over Lewis Camanachd in their in 2pm throw up in Shawbost. All the goals came in the second half with Ross Brown hitting a double on 60 and 66 minutes, either side of a 65 minute David Bauermeister strike.
Caberfeidh 2 Boleskine 7 Boleskine returned from Castle Leod with both points following a 7-2 win in their 1pm throw up with Caberfeidh. John Ritchie and Ruairidh MacKinnon got the Cabers goals but hat-tricks from Lewis Smith and Ewen Fraser and a Craig Pirrie effort gave Boleskine both points.
Kilmallie 2 Strathglass 2 Kilmallie and Strathglass couldn’t be separated as they drew 2-2 in their 2pm throw up at the Canal Parks. Martin Munro and Brian MacKinnon got the Kilmallie goals with Ewan Harper and Brian MacKay countering for Strathglass. |
