13 May 2013 There were no real surprises in the Artemis Macaulay Cup first round ties which took place on Saturday 11 May 2013.
Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup – First Round Beauly 5 Strathglass 2 Beauly beat Strathglass 5-2 at Braeview Park. The sides had met twice previously with Beauly winning narrowly on both occasions. Jack MacDonald missed out for the home side as he served the second match of a two game ban. Strathglass were without manager Callum Duff who was also suspended. Darren Reid put the visitors in front after 12 minutes but Ross Forbes made it 1-1 on 19 minutes. Calum Morrison on 21 minutes and Sean Stewart 3 minutes later gave Beauly a 3-1 lead at the break. Ross Forbes got his second on 53 minutes to make it 4-1 which gave the home side a tight grip of the game. Referee Donald MacRae awarded Strathglass a penalty on 65 minutes and Ally MacAdams stepped up to do his usual efficient job from the spot. A Barrie MacDonald strike 7 minutes from time made it 5-2 and put Beauly out of reach. The winning margin could have been greater had it not been for some great saves from former Beauly youth keeper Josh Grant who was between the sticks for Strathglass. Beauly will now host Oban Camanachd in the second round.
Artemis Macaulay Cup – First Round Lovat 4 Glenurquhart 2 Holders Glenurquhart are out of this year’s competition after losing 4-2 to in-form Lovat at Balgate. Inveraray’s Euan McMurdo added a third just 5 minutes from time.
