Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup - Second Round Kyles Athletic 1 Inveraray 0 This 3pm throw up at Tighnabruaich was a repeat of the 2012 final when Kyles won the day following an eleven goal thriller. Kyles had Calum Miller and Donald Irvine back to bolster their defence whilst there was a starting place in the Inveraray side for Russell McKinlay but David MacPherson was out with a hand injury. This time only one goal separated the sides and it was Kyles former Bute player Roberto Zavaroni who got the winner with a great drive on 36 minutes. Kyles had keeper Kenny MacDonald to thank for some fine saves as he kept the Inveraray forwards at bay.
Skye Camanachd 2 Kinlochshiel 7 Kinlochshiel took the west coast derby honours when they beat Skye Camanachd 7-2 in their 4pm throw up at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. The Islanders went into the game without the suspended Alan MacKinnon and the unavailable Gilleasbuig MacDonald. However Jordan Murchison returned following a one match ban. Kinlochshiel’s Finlay MacRae started on the bench as he was delayed after being held up in a queue of traffic following a road accident. ‘Shiel enjoyed most of the early pressure but Skye gradually came onto the game and Jordan Murchison fired them into a 10 minute lead. A brilliant double save from Scott Kennedy in the visiting goal foiled Will Cowie and Jordan Murchison on 16 minutes as Skye, boosted by the large support, threatened to add to their lead. ‘Shiel introduced Finlay MacRae into their attack and his long ball from the right touchline found Gordie MacDonald and he fired the ball past Michael Nicolson in the Skye goal to make it 1-1 with 18 minutes played. Kinlochshiel went in front on 23 minutes when an Oliver MacRae corner from the left went right across the Skye D and Gordie MacDonald nipped in at the back post to beat the offside trap to make it 2-1. Michael Nicolson made a fantastic save to tip away a Finlay MacRae shot on 36 minutes and ‘Shiel led 2-1 at the break. The Kirkton side extended their advantage on 53 minutes. They were awarded a soft free-hit 15 yards from the Skye goal and Duncan “Ach” MacRae rammed the ball into the net. Skye’s Kenny Campbell received an accidental blow to the face but he was able to continue after treatment. A bullet shot from John MacRae made it 4-1 after he made enough room to net on 80 minutes. Skye pulled a goal back on 82 minutes when Jordan Murchison collected a Darryl Macintosh shy from the right and he conjured up enough space to volley the ball into the net to make it 4-2. However a minute later Keith MacRae turned inside on the right and shot home to make it 5-2. John MacRae made it 6-2 on 90 minutes and Gordie MacDonald completed his hat-trick 8 minutes into stoppage time when Michael Nicolson made a good save but the ball took a horrible bounce and MacDonald flicked the ball into the net. ‘Shiel deserved their victory but the final winning margin was harsh on Skye.
Kingussie 3 Lovat 0 Lovat’s unbeaten start to the season came to an end when they lost 3-0 to Kingussie at the Dell. Kingussie’s Ryan Borthwick and Lee Bain passed fitness tests to play and Ronald Ross made his first senior appearance of the season after several outings in defence for the Kings reserve side. Lovat were without Kevin Bartlett who was on holiday. Kingussie took the lead straight from the throw up when Ryan Borthwick won the ball and played it to Lee Bain who knocked the ball wide to Ronald Ross. The Kingussie talisman cut the ball back across the D for Thomas Borthwick to finish from an acute angle with barely 15 seconds played. Kingussie’s second goal was all about Fraser Munro who rode three challenges before laying the ball off to Lee Bain at the edge of the D and he smashed the ball into the net to make it 3-0 with 16 minutes played. Kingussie went 3-0 in front in the first minute of the second half when Ronald Ross showed great composure as he took on Drew Howie and keeper Stuart MacDonald before tapping the ball home from close range. Kingussie never looked like losing the game and it was no coincidence that their best performance of the season coincided with Ronal Ross’ return to the team. Ross turned in a superb performance and his movement and touch were excellent. The only negative for Kingussie was that this was Louis Munro’s last outing for a couple of months as he heads for Australia.

Skye keeper Jamie Gannon made several fantastic saves throughout the game, especially on a couple of occasions with his hand from Fraser Gallacher and Graeme MacMillan efforts, and had it not been for his performance, the winning margin would have been greater.
