Strathglass 2 Skye Camanachd 4 | |
27 August 2014 Skye Camanachd returned from Cannich with both points following a 4-2 Marine Harvest North Division 1 win over Strathglass on Saturday 23 August 2014. Skye manager John MacLeod was without captain Gilleasbuig MacDonald because of work commitments. Jordan Murchison and Ally “Cleodi” MacLeod travelled to Aberdeen with the Skye Camanachd second team but Chris MacLennan was added to the squad and he started on the bench. There was a start in attack for Kenny MacLeod in Murchison’s place. Shockie MacLennan got Skye off to a great start with a goal in the opening minute. Some great lead-up play from Kenny MacLeod set up the chance and MacLennan had time and space to fire a low drive into keeper Stevie MacLauchlan’s net to make it 1-0. Stevie MacLauchlan saved with his feet and turned the ball away for a corner on 9 minutes. An Iain Murray effort from distance went wide of the Strathglass goal on 14 minutes. Strathglass drew level on 22 minutes when some poor Skye defending allowed Robert Geddes to run through the visiting defence and shoot past Skye goalie Jamie Gannon to make it 1-1. Skye tried to get back in front and a Shockie MacLennan shot on 23 minutes was saved by keeper MacLachlan. Strathglass lost full back Ally MacAdams with an arm injury on 29 minutes. A minute later, a sweeping Skye move ended when Iain Murray's shot went wide of goal. The home side took the lead on 31 minutes when Scott Douglass took advantage of some hesitancy in Skye defence to shoot home from 6 yards and put Strathglass 2-1 in front. Shockie MacLennan sent a shot over the top a couple of minutes later. Skye continued to attack and an Ally "Spod" MacLeod effort from 25 yards out went over with 37 minutes played. Referee Robert Morrison awarded Skye a penalty on 45 minutes after a kick inside the D. However Will Cowie's spot-hit was saved by Stevie MacLauchlan. There was a couple of minutes first half injury time because of Ally MacAdams injury and it was Skye who took advantage by drawing level when Ally "Spod" MacLeod created some space around 12 yards from goal and finished well to make it 2-2. Strathglass created the first real chance of the second half on 49 minutes and Jamie Gannon had to look sharp to turn the ball away to safety. Skye went back in front on 50 minutes, A cross ball from the left was collected at the far post by Kenny MacLeod who crashed the ball high into the net from inside the D to make it 3-2. Skye extended their advantage on 65 minutes when Kenny MacLeod turned his marker before sending a rocket shot from around 18 yards into the back of the net to make it 4-2. Skye boss John MacLeod made changes with 20 minutes remaining as David Grant and Chris MacLennan were introduced with Iain Murray and Alan MacKinnon withdrawn. Shockie MacLennan went to full centre with his brother Chris MacLennan taking over the wing centre role. Kenny MacLeod moved to full forward and David Grant – who celebrated his 30th birthday - slotted in at wing forward. Strathglass applied some late pressure with Skye keeper Jamie Gannon saving with his feet after 77 minutes and the goalie watched closely as a shot from distance went past his post 5 minutes later. Jamie Gannon pulled of a tremendous double save with 5 minutes remaining as the home side looked to set up a grandstand finish but Skye saw out the remainder of the game to make it ten wins out of ten league matches. Best for Skye were defender Ally MacDonald, playmaker Will Cowie and two-goal Kenny MacLeod.
