One of the most familiar faces at shinty major event’s, Steve Bracken from sponsors Marine Harvest, is to retire after 41 years’ service to Scottish salmon farming.
Marine Harvest recently agreed a new six figure three year sponsorship of the game – the largest single sponsorship investment in the sport to date.
The new agreement extends the partnership between Marine Harvest and the Camanachd Association to 33 years.
Steve Bracken, Business Support Manager at Marine Harvest Scotland began his career as Fish Farm Assistant at Lochailort on 23 May 1977 and he is the longest serving employee at Marine Harvest. He has held varying management positions during his four decades of service, including a three-year posting in Sri Lanka, before moving to his current communications role in 2000 where he has engaged with media, governments, customers, local communities, and NGOs.
At Steve’s 40 year service celebration, one colleague paid tribute to, “one of the greatest ambassadors for the aquaculture sector”.
Ben Hadfield, Managing Director at Marine Harvest Scotland, said, “I want to personally thank Steve for his enormous contribution to Marine Harvest and for everything he’s done for the Scottish salmon farming sector. We wish him the best in retirement.”
Steve Bracken retires at the end of July 2018 and Ian Roberts, Director of Public Relations for Marine Harvest Canada, will take on the role of Communications and Business Development Director, Scotland. A UK citizen, Ian will begin this new role in May and will be based near Fort William, Scotland.
A replacement for Ian’s position in Canada is currently being sought.
Steve Bracken has made a great contribution to the game of shinty over the years and it is hoped that he won’t be a stranger to the game during his retiral.
